well, that was definitely a lot to absorb for one issue. obviously, with the series being cancelled, jeff parker wraps up everything as neatly as he could while still adding his own touch. there's a lot of exposition that deals with explaining the multiverse, time travel, and the premise of the exiles.
- as in the previews, the exiles knock out the other wanda in her bedroom and exiles wanda impersonates her. exiles-wanda reveals to jean that scott is having an affair with emma. she catches them and starts a war that fractures the mutant kingdom by calling in all their friends to help (either by asking or telepathic coercion). wanda rejoins the team. after an explosion in the building the exiles are in, emma and banshee (a gen x nod?) catch a dazed wanda in her bedroom. furious at her for revealing her secret and ending her relationship with scott, she turns diamond and snaps her neck. the exiles (including wanda) see all this, and with their mission completed, are whisked away by morph.
- they get a 24 hour break on a peaceful world and morph explains the rift between the 2 telepaths on the previous world cause the mutants to splinter away from genosha. that would end up saving their lives because humankind would have eventually nuked them while they were all together. their next mission will be taking place on a world where they are stuck in the 70s and the exiles need to get them to progress so they'll be prepared to repel an eventual skrull invasion. right before they teleport there, black panther places a small device on blink's tallus.
- the exiles materialize back in the field they originally all met in. blink is surprised and then knocked out by bp's wankandan nerve pinch. (apparently, the others figured out blink knew more than she let on.) as they look around, they see the Crystal Palace/Panoptichron and enter. morph pops back in to see blink waking up. she goes after them. inside the palace, the exiles see images on the walls of other exiles teams. (there's some funny images such as a crying captain america or teams being chosen by the impossible man or howard the duck.) blink finds them and comes clean. the tallus then takes them to the control room.
- the nu-exiles come face-to-face with original exiles morph, heather hudson, and nocturne! they explain what's going on and say that they were pulled back into action. they thought it was claremont's former team calling them back but it turns out... they've all been put in stasis in the walls of the crystal palace! sage, sabretooth, mystiq, gambit, rogue, and valeria richards are all in the wall. (sage or claremont fans are not going to be happy.)
- suddenly, the crystal palace comes alive and takes the shape of a giant woman. out of its mouth pops out a female kang and says she's the one who called them back. she gives a (very, very) long explanation of the multiverse and why the exiles exist. turns out you become part of the panoptichron if you are there for a long time, which is what happened to claremont's exiles. morph was saved because it absorbed proteus from him instead. it was also that act that awakened female kang from its collective consciousness.
- while being connected to the panoptichron, forge uses his powers to reveal what happened on their respective worlds after they died. most of them turned out for the better. in forge's world, thing are better because they developed without relying on his intelligence. on bp's world, his death spurs his father out of retirement and his sister ends up being the greatest bp ever. on polaris' world, her father becomes a major force for good. beast regains his intelligence as a side effect of being connected, but the major revelation is that he's gay (i guess on his world, morrison really meant it) and that he was in love with wonder man.
- the original exiles each decide to train and lead their own team of exiles and nocturne joins the nu-exiles in blink's place (she also asks heather to send word to thunderbird she'll be back soon). the nu-exiles teleport to their new mission on another world. while waiting for kang to gather info, beast theorizes that changing things in each world also will eventually change who's the guiding force. the timebroker, the bugs, the couple. they were all in charge at one point and someone else will be after female kang.
- wanda asks what the point of it all is if the nature of the job keeps changing. someone (presumably beast) says you just have to deal with it like the rest of life - you can only deal with what you're given at the moment. polaris brings up that they never saw what happened to wanda's world and she says it doesn't matter because they think she's dead anyway, and as the others run off she goes into soliloquy "because emma frost killed 'me.'" (dun dun DUN, one final twist that exiles-wanda was the one killed instead. it's not an exiles without the death of a team member) she rejoins the team shouting "Go Exiles!"
i thought parker did an excellent job. he tied up every loose end while still acknowledging everything that went on before. and he keeps things as they were so someday exiles could be brought back. the art also is top notch. exiles fans should be pleased. sage fans, probably not so much.

I like that "Exiles Beast" will here to fore be known as "Gay Beast".
Other than that revelation, I agree with darknessatnoon. It seemed obvious that pushing a big reveal in so fast here made all the fate at the Crystal Palace stuff really, really sudden and random.
And I mean, other than Sage, you'd think I'd be totally okay with the New Exiles cast being walled up like victims in an Edgar Allen Poe story (without the drama). But no, this kind of was a blatant "abort!" tale where they tried tying up loose ends caused by early cancellation, just hoping they could rehash it later, when they actually give this book a chance (if they do).

It's not Parker's fault that Sage is trapped in a wall. These are just further repercussions of the "Exiles" franchise being devalued following "New Exiles" and no options being left open in ending the whole book.
Poor Sage, she should not be a casualty though. Still, "haw haw" at AoA Sabretooth.

This is the best thing you've ever posted. Yes, Diana Fox deserves to be walled up like it was "Cask of the Amontillado". Sadly, Sage should be the one who got to lay the bricks and mortar to do so.

you know, it's all just really sad. this series started off with real potential, and yeah, it was disappointing to hear it was cancelled so early in its run. maybe/probably this had something to do with an unfair association to CC's previous exiles.
either way, jeff parker had an opportunity to at least end his series with some dignity, or even a clever touch-off, but instead chose to make his personal mark on the overall exiles run as inconsequential and unimportant as this particular chapter turned out to be.

I'm still trying to figure out what the hell the point of female Kang was. THAT is supposed to be the person they trust? And she's an improvement on Sage being the force behind the Crystal Palace?
By the way, this makes Roma look like a self-important nooch, too. She set Sage up to be like, her house-sitter, but failed to tell her all the bells and whistles that keep you from becoming like, part of the walls.
Also, seeing the rest of the Exiles react to being betrayed by Blink, and kept in the dark by just signing right back on, anyway was pretty anti-climactic.

She was locked in a bondage machine by Maddie Pryor for an issue. More so, it was the figurative wall that Fraction's characterization of her and Land's art created. I'd say she's still there, but Yost has dibs on her next, I believe. I think that's an escape from being "bricked up".

Good. Uatu is such a disorganized ass. He needs someone to help him run his business office on the Blue Area of the Moon. Plus, Tessa has experience in catering to people with fetishes. Uatu's voyeurism knows no bounds, but it's much easier to facilitate than some of the more exotic requests Sebastian Shaw and Harry Leland used to give her.

Very strange.
The only logical thing I can think of for this ending is some kind of Exiles Secret/Infinity Wars Ragnarokish-type of thing he had in mind for the book and he left all the pieces in place. In that case, that would be kind of cool, since this gathered army of wall decorations would spring to life like housewares in a Disney film and take on a interstellar/dimensional challenge.
In any case, I'm just reaching really far here. Weird issue. Sorry, Sage fans. Maybe when Abyss eventually emerges from the Brimstone Dimension, he'll take Sage with him on a Carnival cruise for a week.

in my country, when people think of comics, they picture Mickey and Donald. It's frustrating when you say that you're interested in comics, they think you're immature or whatever... While if some f#$%in ugly emo chick starts reading manga, they are like "Wow, really? It's nice to see young people interested in other cultures"..

Since Sage fans are intelligent, they are able to interact with the writers as their contemporaries, rather than as slavish fans. It means the writers are more likely to listen to them, respect their opinion, and bring back Sage, (while Crosta gets killed off-panel).

This was terrible. Terrible terrible. Jeff Parker had a chance to just have the New Exiles as being one of the other groups at the end, making all fans (however few there might have been) happy, instead he spit on the fans of Sage and the rest nobody cares about.
I don't see a vast difference between Sage being the wall and being in the wall. It's all very philosophical. Does this mean Sage is inside herself?

Alternate Rachels have appeared in "What If" issues too. Is Claremont the only one to foist this "only one Rachel, unique fiery snowflake" thing on readers?
oh, i know. there was even an alternate rachel shown in the past exiles series that had more magic based powers i think, and the exiles' sabretooth also took care of another alternate rachel's child for awhile. while it may have seemed a neat idea, claremont's notion that rachel is unique in the multiverse is unfeasible since the multiverse should consist of nearly every possible outcome. if the only rachel that exists is the one in the 616 universe, there could never be a timeline that branches off of it because those by default should have rachel in it. besides, claremont contradicted himself by having rachel in x-men: the end anyway.

Sage fans have powerful allies in Marvel's current writing staff. It is only a question of whether we get Darkness requesting it from Carey, LuckyStar requesting it from Yost, I could have a word with Swierczynski etc etc etc, and that is without even having to use any of timbox's connections.
Darkness is your Carey link? Really? Drop dead, JAU.
Aw, I felt bad for the Sage fans. I kept waiting to see her and when she appeared stuck on that wall, it made me sad. :frown:
I thought it was a great wrap-up to series. The ever changing nature of the Panopitcron fits in well with the time and universe changing activities of the book. Glad they brought TJ back. Hopefully the Mouse money will give them the opportunity to put the book back out once it's had time to rest and for nostalgia to gloss over the rough parts.
Just gotta lol at the Sage hysteria though, she's such a minor character I didn't even notice her in the wall.

I'm curious if they plan on relaunching the series or continue it in a mini series?
Happy to see TJ also, too bad she was still in her horrid Michael Ryan design.

Parker could have done a lot of good for the Exiles series, but the sales were pretty bad even for it's first issue.

honestly, the development with sage doesn't really change much. she's still stuck in character limbo. only now, with her "demotion" it makes it easier for another creator to come along in the future and use her since she's no longer in charge of the entire multiverse.

Re: Sage Inside a Wall
After finishing this issue of Exiles I thought to myself, "This series was really going somewhere." The ending with the Scarlet Witch dupe was interesting and the other team members turning against Blink more slowly could have built up wonderfully. Sage clearly would have progressed into a bigger part of the story, but I understand her being walled up in this abridged ending.
I am not bothered by the revelation. Sage has simply mutated. Cell phones and laptops are always getting slimmer and more cleverly packaged. Sage is now like a wireless flat screen mutant. It would have been interesting to see "Eternity" be Sage instead, but I also think it's possible this "Kang" creature is simply another manifestation of Sage's persona similar to Diana Fox.

It's worth having AOA Sabretooth gone forever, if it means Sage is also gone forever.
Sage has never been written worth a crap since her creation. Claremont dropped the ball big time with this character from the beginning. Best she stays gone forever.

If Sage was meant to be one of the timebrokers it would have been revealed this final issue. Instead it was revealed that she is in the stasis wall.
So the narrative voices in the first issue were Heather, TJ and Morph. No Sage.
Like TJ said in the issue, "the original Exiles".
Sage is an original X-Man darkness, not an original Exile. You should know these things.
Heather was actually a third generation Exile. First was Magus, who died in the first story. Then Sunfire, who died. Heather took her place.

I wouldn't go that far. I remember I began to dislike Sage when Diana Fox came into the picture during New Excalibur.
Since then for me, her quality in character has gone straight downhill. I don't understand why Claremont didn't just write the finale of New Exiles with Sage and Psylocke going home.
At least that way other writers could have done something with Sage. Instead he made it difficult for that to happen.
Then again Claremont has done this with a lot of characters so I'm sure a write can easily come along and do Sage some justice. It's just a matter of who and if they have enough effort to do so.
Don't worry, i'd already corrected her.

I thought this was a great little issue. I loved Beast's explaination that the origins of the Panoptichron keeps changing everytime the multiverse is changed, so all the origins we have seen (Timebroker, Bugs, Sage and now Kang) are all true. I think this was a great way to bring back the original, true Exiles, without sacrificing the new ones. The New Exiles though, had to go... But they can still be used in the future if someone wants.
I think the best thing to do is wait a few years and then relaunch the book using this group, the originals, Claremont's crew and those from the one-shot that came out after Exiles #100 in a overall story, paring them down to a managable size.
