View Full Version : Who's family is more enterating/interesting?

So for the longest time Cyclops's family affairs have had a monoloply on the X-Men books. Whether its dealing with his Havok, his father, Jean, Emma, Maddie, Cable, Nate and Rachel among others has produced some interesting stories over the years.
But now Cyclops and his "family" are getting challenged by Wolverine and his "family": Laura, Daken, Erista and all those other Howlet peoples.
So my question is this: Who's family do you enjoying reading more about Cyclops or Wolverines?
Personally Cyclops and his ilk have been around so long its kind of boring. Like wise both Laura and Daken are becoming some of my favorite characters. SO i gotta go with Wolvie

It depends. We need to clarify Rachel's true parentage so we can vote. If she's truly a Summers I might have to vote Wolverine.

I'd vote for Wolverine just for him and Laura, I'm not a fan of Daken at all. They're working way too hard just to make him a 'sophisticated' Wolverine when he's really just a better-read one with more degenerate behaviour.
I'm just concerned they're going to keep trying to boost the Howlett brood, before long Daken's going to have an illegitimate son of his own the way they're pushing this stuff.

I personally like Daken. He's grown on me. Though im surprised he dosent already have a kid out there somewhere. He is 60+ years so plenty of time to play the field.
I also am curious to see how Romulus ties into all of the Wolverine clan because he looks like an older version of Logan with a hint of Sabertooth.

It is interesting how Wolverine's family and the Summers are the two big families of the X-books. The Summers have held the title for so long, but Wolverine's kin and clones and stuff are on their way up. I have no great love for either family, but Wolverine's family are more interesting at the moment.
Magneto's family could be up there, but they are spread out across the Marvel universe and actually tend to get pushed harder by the Avengers franchise then the x-books.
I trust jarrod when it comes to Rachel. And not much else, 'cause, y'know, he likes Rachel.

Summers. I don't see the Howlett bunch qualifying as a family.
Even as dysfunctional as they are, are somewhat a family. Wolverine just has some random kids and clones out there. They aren't exactly a family.
And no matter if Logan might be Rachel's sperm donor, that doesn't make her any less Scott's daughter.

Who is this Erista? I must have missed her and what about Amiko (wolverine's daughter)? And when are they gonna push Wolverine's younger son? The one after Daken.

Erista is Wolverine's youngest son. Currently the kid is a toddler in the savage lands...though its only a matter of time before he pops out his own claws and goes off to find daddy.
Logan has had to avoid some very hefty child support checks hasnt he.

Since logan is about 120 years old with barely any memory of his past with a son that's sixty, he probably has more than two kids out there. Hell, at his age he probably has great grand kids he doesent know about yet. My grandmother died at age 90 and he had like six greatgrandkids and two great great grandkids. Logan is at least thirty years older than her so anything is game.

In all honesty, I'd say Wolverine's family is more interesting at the moment. Cable is boring to me when he's off in the future. Rachel isn't even the same species. She's a frigen dinosaur. X-Man needs to gtfo of our 616 because he is a ho fo sho.
X-23 and Daken could probably support their own ongoings for a long time. I'd extend that family into a Marvel version of "The Bat Family" and include Shadowcat, Jubilee, Domino, Sabretooth, Wild Child, etc. Everyone even somehow related to Wolverine in any way is better than anyone related to Cyclops in any way.

Cyclops.
I think X-23 and Daken are cool, but I hate God-verine. Cyclops' family is so flawed and screwed up that I love to read about them.
And yes, Wolverine and Domino dated. Cable has every right to hate that clawed jerk.

Cyclops' family is so convoluted that, IMO, it represents everything that was wrong with comics in the 90's. Time-travel, alternate futures, aliens, clones...you need a freaking handbook to explain to you exactly how everyone is related to everyone else! Each one of those things in and of itself is okay, particulary in a comic book, but when a single family has all of those elements.
I remember trying to explain the Summers family to my wife once. Her reaction was like "What the hell!?" With Wolverine's family, yes, there's a clone in there, but all of them are at least from this time period which makes them much easier to explain. There's something to be said for simplicity after all.
Having said that, I actually like Cable. I just wish they'd never retconned him into Nathan Summers thrown into the far future and returned to the present to stop Apocalypse or save mankind or protect Hope or whatever his "destiny/mission" is this week.

Of course, having said all that, I forgot about Loeb's sweet addition to the Wolverine mythos in the form of Romulus. If you include him and the whole Lupine sapiens nonsense then it's a tie IMO as to whose family is worse/more convoluted.

One families has the likes of Amiko, Daken, Erista, Flex, and X-23.
The other holds Rachel, Cable, and Vulcan.

Actually the whole Lupine Sapiens dosent really bother me a whole lot, since one of the original ideas for Logan's origins was that he would have evolved from a Wolverine. Even though wolverines are not canines.

Vulcan sucks, but so does Daken. Sorry. X-23 is better, but still too similar to the rest of the family if you ask me. Moving claws to different places doesn't make them original. Really though, I do like X-23, she's just not a favorite.
Cyke Havok Jean and Cable are all favs for me, so... ya know.
The Black Guardian

Cyke definitely.
Except for Logan (and by extension, Laura), his family is pretty much all pondscum on the genepool.

He was intended to be the son of D'ken with Scott's mom. Not a Summers but a brother to him and Alex. But thank God that never saw print so he's a "Summers" as much as Sabretooth is Logan's dad or Gambit is Mr Sinister.

Let's see...one end you have: Logan, Laura, Daken, Amiko, Jubilee (extended maybe?), Kitty (extended maybe? "Kid sister")...and a couple of others.
Then you have: Cyclops, Havok, Jean, Rachel, Cable, The Greys, the moon, the stars, Mars, Shi'ar, etc.
Yup...the Howletts for the win.

I think a lot of people are surprised to see that they're starting to like The Daken. He's got some good writers for him. You know the other day i was in borders and they had the first issue of Dark Wolverine. I had already read the issue but i decided to read it again for the lolz. What i noticed new was a very well done Daken biography done by Logan. I was happy to see even after all the shit's thats been done he still loves his son and that he wants to help him.
Laura i think is a good foil for both Logan and Daken. She's trying to change herself from weapon to human and its not easy. As for Logan he's lost a bit of mystery to him since he got his memories back but its cool i still think he's the best at what he does.
