So what the hell just happened in that issue? While I understood codename patriot.. I just don't understand what went on in this issue? So basically we haven't seen olsen for so long in the superman titles is because he was on the run from Drew??
And then in the end, he shoots Olsen?? WTF??? Why did Lane want Olsen to die? I'm really confused...

I was surprised when I didn't see a thread on this book last wednesday. While I don't think Olsen is really dead, I do hope:
* Sam Lane switches places with Pa Kent
* Someone else starts writing Jimmy Olsen
* James Robinson gets a Marvel exclusive contract

Someone contacted Jimmy with information about 7734.
Jimmy went to met him but Drew got there first(they bugged Jimmy's computer).
Before the person died he sent Jimmy to Natasha.
Natasha told Jimmy what she knows.
After Jimmy left Natasha Drew showed up and shot him.
What do you find confusing?

I don't remember Jimmy leaving the Superman books. He hasn't been a focus but we've seen him as much as Perry and he was recently in Supergirl.

Yes Lane wanted him to shoot him. He know Jimmy has been poking around so he sent Drew to kill him.

It follows the plot threads from the first Jimmy Olsen Special where he discovers the existance of project 7734 from the Guardian. Drew is sent to kill him but Olsen narrowly evades death thanks to Drew's inability to read Olsen's mind and predict his actions.
In this special, Lane has been content to leave Olsen be since he hasn't uncovered anything else about 7734. However, when Olsen is contacted by a source from inside 7734 and with Mon-El apparently dead, Lane decides to do away with Olsen once and for all.

I take it the original poster hasn't been reading James Robinson's run on the book at all? Not to be a jerk, but really, if you've been reading the books, you would've seen Jimmy and you would know what Sam Lane wants him dead.

To be fair, that whole conversation with Natasha wasn't the clearest thing. Even Jimmy was confused. And then there was the way she simply disappeared.

That's true. I was expecting some big revelations but all it did was confirm what we already knew or suspected. As for her disappearing, I think that's been one of her powers since Infinity, Inc.

James Robinson's Superman has so far been great and I have been loving all the twists and turns so far in his run. Robinson has been doing a great job in developing Superman's supporting characters such as the Science Police, the Guardian, Mon-El, Atlas, and others as well. Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen special #2 was also a great issue. I loved it because it wasn't written like a standard Superman book but more of a black ops espionage tale.

You've got to be kidding me... I have been reading Robinson's run and am STILL baffled by some of the random writing he has thrown up in his superman run. I am not liking this at all.
Btw, thanks for the info you all. At least some of the things have been cleared up.

Have to be honest: This issue read very well. I really enjoyed it and the art wasn't bad either. I like where these superman books are going. This is one of few Robinson comics I have enjoyed these past few months.

people really need to jump off the robinson hate train. i thought this issue showed how great a writer he can be. its issues like this that make you wonder if it really is him writing cry for justice. this isnt as good as the first olson special but its close. i think robinson has great story telling abilities when it comes to these kind of stories. like ground level mysteries. big epic stories like cry for justice with multiple characters might not be the thing for robinson. im hoping for more robinson goodness like this and not like the third issue of cry for justice.

Jimmy's not dead. At the same time of this story, Mon-El is being declared dead as well - and we all know he's well and alive and joining the JLA in a few months.
The only reason to kill Jimmy would be for the shock factor, of changing the well established status quo of Superman's Supporting Character's universe. Considering the building up on Jimmy's character, I doubt they did all that just to kill him.

I actually liked this much better than #1. I think Robinson got too bogged down in all that Guardian backstory in #1 (and to a lesser degree, #2 got a bit bogged down with the backstory of Steel's daughter). Lot's of action this time though. I liked it.

The reason I ask is that if you have been reading, then you know from the dialogue why Lane wants Jimmy dead. It was made clear in the first special and it was brought up again in this special. And not all of this is random. It's tying Superman's stories up from "Our Worlds At War" and his guest appearence in the Breech monthly series, as well as the short lived "Infinity Inc" series.
