This album is going to get some SERIOUS rotation in my "music to listen to while drawing" list. Amazing music, fantastically epic concept. Great music to loose yourself in while drawing. Any other fans here? I've included a link to the video for the first track, Oblivion, which is worth a watch on it's own.

Mastodon are pretty cool. I love "March of The Fire Ants". So sweet.

Oh, yes. I'm just coming out of a semi-obsession phase with Crack the Skye, so I know it very well. It's definitely one of my favorite albums now.
It really doesn't have a weak track, and I've gone through periods where they were all my favorite. "Ghost of Karelia" probably is at the moment, but I often come back around to "Quintessence" and "The Czar".
Also, I'm not sure I can think of an album closer as epic and fitting as "The Last Baron". Along with the rest of the album, it does not feel its length.
Personally, I would have to call it Mastodon's best overall.

One of my favorite albums of the new decade, and possibly my favorite of the year, period. A modern classic if ever there was one.

It took a minute to grow on me, as I'm a big fan of the Leviathan album. But yes, it's quite good.

I was a little like  when I heard it for the first time since it's quite a departure from "Blood Mountain" and "Leviathan", but I'm enjoying it.
They're touring with Dethklok, and I really wish that I could see them when they come here in November. :frown:

Just spinning it for the first time right now. I'm only 3 tracks in, but so far I'm fucking lovin' it.

Wait 'til you get to "The Last Baron". My man, you will cream.

Friend of mine at KUSF got to have them swing by her stage at Outside Land.
She was pretty damn stoked.

I really wanted to go to Outside Lands if only for Mastodon, Modest Mouse and The National, but dudes-SO EXPENSIVE.

It's an album that must be played all the way through, like Dark Side of the Moon. I didn't know what to think when I first listened to it (beforehand I was on a steady diet of Blood Mountain).

The whole album kicks my ass from start to finish. Seriously one of the best metal albums I've heard in the last 20 years. And if it's kicking your ass on first listen, it'll be absolutely demolishing you by fifth listen.
It's one of those.

Yeah, which means it has this decade covered for the most part.
Death is such an old topic for metal, but the way Mastodon approaches it here is personal yet cerebral.

It's pretty good. Fave track is No 4, The Czar.
Haven't listened to it much. It's good but it's no Leviathan.

Album blew me away, was NOT expecting them to put something like this out, huge step up musically for them.
