Capcom says they would love to make a nintendo vs capcom game.

I hope nintendo hears this.

One producer saying it's a neat idea is hardly hinting at anything.

I suppose it would be cool though.

nintendo doesn't really strike me as having that large a staple of mascots. A lot of their biggest titles back day was from third party companies like Capcom.

Mario, Lugi, Samus, Pikachu and Link vs Capcom sounds like a slaughter in Capcoms favor.

Though I suppose if you include each of their side kicks and main villain, maybe...

Mario & Luigi, Samus and a Metroid, Mother Brain, Captain Falcon and two others from that game, Link Zelda and Ganon, Pikachu, Squirtle, and Mewtwo, seems pretty neat.

I just had a thought how they could do Ash, if they put him in there. On a 4 button game each of the 4 attack buttons could be tied to a pokemon when entering series of directional buttons and a corrosponding button. Like if Pikachu was on light punch a hadoken motion with that button makes him do thunder shock, and a shoryuken with that button makes him do a quick attack, and so on.

Smash Bros. has a good number of characters in it, doesn't it?

I've never played the game, but didn't have like the mascots plus 1 or 2 of their sidekicks / villains? If they do that then sure I guess they could fill it out with guys like that.

Wii games cost less to make than games for other systems.
More people own the Wii than the other systems.
Capcom is not stupid, so they want to make a game for the wii that is like another game for the Wii that sold a lot of copies.
Nintendo will apprently let any game, no matter how crap, appear on the Wii.

So, chances of this happening are about as high as Capcom's desire to make it happen.

Nintendo won't let just any game use their franchises though. Though now that Team Ninja is working on Metroid, I guess anything is possible.

You're joking, right?

I'd say any of the Mario characters alone, from Princess Peach down to effing Petey Piranha, are way more widely known than the majority of Capcom characters. Add in the heaps of other successful gaming mascots that were used in Smash Bros. and I'd say it's one-sided in favor of Nintendo.

The newest Smash Bros. game, Brawl, had 35 characters (2 of which belonged to third parties).

Of the 33 Nintendo characters, it could be broken down as such.

* Bowser
* Captain Falcon
* Donkey Kong
* Falco
* Fox
* Ganondorf
* Ice Climbers
* Jigglypuff
* Kirby
* Link
* Luigi
* Marth
* Mr. Game & Watch
* Peach
* Pikachu
* Mario
* Ness
* Samus/ Zero Suit Samus
* Yoshi
* Zelda/Sheik
* Diddy Kong
* Ike
* King Dedede
* Lucario
* Lucas
* Meta Knight
* Olimar
* Pit
* Pokémon Trainer (Squirtle, Ivysaur, Charizard)
* R.O.B.
* Toon Link
* Wario
* Wolf

Though this game may or may not happen at all, what do you guys figure would be the best fighting system for such a game? A 'Street Fighter'-esque one or Smash Bros.' system? I think both could work, though it would take some getting used to to have the special moves of the Capcom fighters under a single button and see them perform 'Smash' moves.

I'd suggest two games. One would be a more tradiational Capcom fighter (maybe another in the "Capcom Vs." series) and the other a Smash Bros. style fighter.

My guess would be something more along the lines of the Power Stone games.

They could do it like a swap. Capcom gets to use Nintendo characters for a "Capcom Vs." game, and Nintendo gets to use Capcom characters for the next "Smash Bros." game.

Agreed, or maybe a puzzle game like Puzzle Fighter Turbo. I'd prefer the former. Power Stone was the tits.

Although a Vs. engine would be better for fighting game players, they should definitely use the Smash Bros engine as it is far easier for people to get into.

If Nintendo and Capcom wants to make money, they should definitely make this game.
