View Full Version : Creepiest Marvel Villain?

For me, it would either have to be the Puppet Master, the Wizard, or the Mandrill.
The Puppet Master has a creepy bald head and midget body, with creepy eye makeup, creepy grin, and a power (the ability to make dolls that are identical duplicates to the people he mind controls) that seems to reward creepy obsessiveness.
The Mandrill, likewise, has a creepy power that Gerber seemed to relish filling us with disgust at its use: a guy that looks like a baboon has a musk that makes women do what he wants against their will.
Finally, the Wizard, who wins the Creepy Lifetime Achievement Award for that scene in the Waid FF. When people express astonishment that he was able to get Salmandra pregnant, she corrected them and said "Oh, don't be silly, he didn't. He had his machines do it."

ultron is scary because he is everywhere and as long as technology is around he will be.
hydra if you think about paranoia. they should make hydra huge. secret warriors is working on it. they are this big agency that runs almost everything but they have been a joke for so long with their green suits and dumb slogans. they could be fucking scary. imagine a mini event where heroes we have known for years were really agents of hydra setting everything up. retcon S.I. and make it hydra making deals instead of replacing.
i wish marvl had that mega scary villain. dc now has joker and darkseid and the black lanterns. marvel needs a bad guy who will stay bad and scary forever. who doesnt talk alot like doom or thanos, who just hurts people and wrecks stuff to do it. but on an epic scale more than carnage and those small serial killer types.
i hope the unspoken gets mega threat status. and becomes darker

I immediately thought of the Thunderbolts cast.
Mr. X is creepy to me.
And so is Ghost, but not as much as X.

His powerset alone is just creepy. And his behavior just adds fuel to the fire with it.
I think Bendis' version of Purple Man was pretty darn scary.
He's the last guy I'd want to have to face off with... I'd almost sooner be dead than spend a weekend with that guy. He's sick and wrong in a completey base yet fascinating way.

I always thought Bullseye was pretty damned creepy. And yeah, Bendis made Purple Man really effed up too.
Also, these last couple of issues of Amazing Spider-Man have made me see The Chameleon as a really scary villain.

Carrion.
As far as i can remember this villain floats, not because of his powers but because Nature itself repels his body so he can float.

And Chamaleon in recent stories in ASM have been revealed to be a creepy villain.

I love Carrion.
I haven't read Spider-man for a long time but a Carrion story would make me pick it up.

Styx, the Spidey-villian, is pretty damn creepy to me. His partner, Stone, not so much.
There is one Erik Larsen drawn scene that really creeps me out, where Styx fingers expand around Spider-mans face. I don't remember the issue number, sadly.

Mind control (and manipulation) is just inherently creepy. A few have already been mentioned, but there's still Controller (Fraction has used him really well in INVINCIBLE IRON MAN), Mr. Fear (Brubaker's upgrade of him was one of the better parts of his run), Corrupter, Shadow King . . . It's an unpleasant power.

Emplate was one of the creepiest to come out of the 90s. i remember seeing him in that first issue of Generation and fearing that he was actually going to make good on his threat to eat one or all of them. i thank the artist for his creepyness; must be hard to make an elephant look scary. there's also the fact that he's contagious/vampiric.

Mountjoy, a criminal mutant Bishop's was charged in bringing down.
The guy could jump into people and control them from the inside, or absorb them into himself to feed. One partilcular scene where he fed on one girl and she tried to claw her way out of his system was very disturbing.
ah, the 90's..

That is the way I would go with the Green Goblin, Instead of another "Mastermind" in the Marvel Universe

Winston Hobbes from the District X title. I think its nickname was the Worm. There are much creepier panels from the comic but I lack a scanner. The Worm was creepy because his mutation was so damn extreme and he just sat moving around in the sewers killing crap all the time. He was a wierd looking creature. This covre doesn't do him justice.

The Bendis version of the Purple Man, with a close second the one that raped Mss Marvel and got her pregnant with himself.
A lot of the examples on this thread are just gross tp me, but not really creepy.

I'd give it to that guy that molested Spider-Man. Runner up goes to Bendis' Purple Man or Michael Redstone from Supreme Power. Something's just creepy about tearing arms off hookers and leaving them in nests.

Wasn't that Spider-Man story in some special comic for the schools or something? I don't think it was in one of the Spidey ongoing titles.
I'd have to second the nomination of the Puppet Master. In Marvel Knights 4, he was removing the eyes from random women he kidnapped in order to help Alicia. He tried to get Sue's eyes IIRC.
Any character that is a cannibal creeps me out, like when Mauvais (sp?) ate one of Wolverine's eyes.

i must almost nominate several members of Gene Nation. they were some of the nastiest mutants to crawl out of the sewers, especially Sack.

there's also Johnny Dee who was basically Puppet Master and Purple Man rolled into a creepier shell.

Wow, what's the story on that MeMe character?
he was one of the Morlocks that had been driven crazy by Mikhail Rasputin (or Masque); their new leader. the X-Men had to go down there and set 'em straight because the Morlocks started attacking people on the subway (apologies because it's been a long time since i read that one). anyways, Meme's power allows him to steal people, merge them with his own body, and use their strength. he had absorbed a crapload of people so was big and strong enough to fight Colossus. anyways, Meme wasn't going to let the people go so Jean Grey had to mentally shut him down; killing him.

Dark Beast, seriously?
That's one of the least creepy villains in my book.

I woudn't say creepy, but a little nonsensical. My favorite was where he blamed Spider-Man's spirit for the collapse of Tsarist Russia. Wha - ?
I believe heroes and villains should die off when necessary and dramatic for a story, but just the same, they killed Kraven...for this?

Dropping naked in a room full of spiders and start eating them isn't creepy?
Also I disagree with the last part, Kraven's death was one of the few MU deaths that served a greater story

mauvais was supposed to be creepy, but i never really found him to be that threatening. he did manage to eat one of wolverine's eyes.

there was also some demon from around that time in wolverine that managed to turn snowbird into a giant bug & apparently raped her. kind of creepy; it was from wolverine (2nd series) 179.

Hybrid (from the old ROM series)- a mutant cross between a Dire wraith and a human- he planned on breeding with as many mutant hotties as possible and making his own race.
He looked creepy as hell, could shape-change, telekinesis, telepathy, mind control...he nearly took out the X-Men the first time around and then Mystique's Brotherhood the second time around.
Bendis made sure to list him among the mutants with powers in that Omega character.
