So my fellow YABSer's what do you disagree with Gail on?
I disagree with Gail on....
Marvel's Black Widow (She is a cool character dammit!)
The Sony PS3 (It's a good system, give it a chance dammit!)
Gun Control (I tend to favor it)
The existence of God and an Afterlife (I think, but I'm unsure about that one isn't she an atheist?)

As much as I may be critical of Gail, I really, like her writing (I would buy 2 issues of every issue if she did Taskmaster or Deadpool again)
The only thing I really disagree with Gail is about Marvel women versus DC women. Marvel women I always thought were "stronger/better developed" than their DC counterparts during the 70s and 80s thanks to Bryne and Claremont

I sadly will have to agree with this, but ONLY during the late 70's to the early 90's. About that time DC really was putting out some great heroines, and Marvel sadly went into cloneish characters, such as Thunderstrike,War Machine, USAgent, Scarlet Spider, etc.
The only on again, off again female lead of any serious nature was She-Hulk, and mostly regulated to quirky and comedic stories.

I think by the 90s, there was no big difference between marvel and DC. In fact, this is partly WHY I think Powergirl needs to be known for her chest.
DC, seems able to get more female long-lasting solo titles out than Marvel, but I've always been more impressed with how well Claremont and Bryne were with writing female characters in mixed teams.
There's a reason why we have the term Claremont-woman.

I was there when they were ON the book, Allister. And it wasn't just X-men. His work on Marvel Team-Up and Iron Fist were huge standouts too. My only problem is after awhile he got sloppy, and started just saying the same things over and over. Phoned it in rather than come up with something new.
By the 90s, claremont was forced out of X-men, and Marvel's female heroes took a huge backseat to marketing. When JUBILEE is the best know marvel female super-hero, there is something wrong.

To be fair though, in the 90's everyone was getting sloppy, not just Claremont, Marvel and DC didn't care cause they were ranking in the cash. They were letting guys like Alan Moore and Frank Miller do whatever they wanted with their characters, especially the female ones.

HA! Fun thread idea.
1) I'm starting to like her better.
2) Hate it.
3) I am in the middle. I think citizens don't need assault rifles, and I think most gun owners are law-abiding citizens.
4) Yep, we disagree. :)
Alan Moore & Frank Miller didn't want anything to do with Marvel or DC in the '90s.
Oh yeah your right, the left around the late 80's didn't they? Well there were plenty of other comic "superstars" at the time who couldn't write nearly as well.
HA! Fun thread idea.

3) I am in the middle. I think citizens don't need assault rifles, and I think most gun owners are law-abiding citizens.

Thanks, Thought you might get a kick out of it.
1) Not liking her better enough, you should love her dammit!
2) I really think you should give it another chance, but if you hate the thing that much, maybe you should give it away, just seems a shame for one of those to go to waste.
3) The problem here is that most crimes are not committed with assault rifles, they're too big, too bulky, far to conspicuous, and too expensive. Most violent crimes are committed with Handguns, or god forbid, fully automatic machine pistols and compact sub machine guns like the Uzi, which are easier to conceal, and are cheaper both in terms of the ammunition and the guns themselves. Even if most gun owners are law-abiding, why do they need handguns?
4) Well I think we can both agree that were not going to change each others minds on the subject, and I don't know if we should, but I've always had faith in my creator, and I can't picture that the idea of a non existence, nor do I really want to.

Me and one of my best friends went and saw Pirates of the Carribean 1 together. As the credits started rolling, the moviegoers started leaving.
We knew better. We stayed. By the time the credits ended, we were the only two left.
Then the evil lil monkey came and stole the gold coin.
She then said to me "SEE? THEY MISSED THE EVIL MONKEY!"
From then on, any lil add on scenes at the end of movies are called by us affectionately as "Evil Monkies".

For me it depends on whether we're talking letter of the law, or spirit of the law. I think our world has too many labels, not just for people, but for things and ideas. I would be willing to bet that I'd disagree with Gail on 7 out 10 things if we were forced to remain on the surface of issues. But deep down, I mean once we got past all the definitions, probably not much of anything.
Then again, it's probably that way for all us really. Underneath it all, I think most people basically want the same things and share many of the same feelings. It's the articulation of those feelings that slow meaningful connections.

Sorry James. I stand by it. Most of the characterization of Storm was done in the 80's, not the 90s. By then she was more or less a set of powers and skills more than a character.
I really did not follow X-Force in the 90s. I just could NOT stand the artist on the later half of that book, and for the most part i gave up caring about the characters. I am hoping the current New Mutants book will make me like them again.

Well, irregardless of the art, Terry had a good run as co-leader and had a pretty strong portrayal up until she had her throat torn out by Feral.
And I LOVE X-Factor, but yes, I don't get why neither PAD or any of the recent Deadpool writers have acknowledged Terry's feelings for Deadpool. I'm fairly liberal on social issues but on things like law and order, I've got an eye for an eye attitude and I'd have no problem with reintroducing capital punishment for terrorism and child murder.
I tend to put public protection above individual needs unless descrimination is involved and suspects are badly treated.

I'm unaware as to exactly how low profile X-Factor keeps it's dealings (Emma apparently didn't even know Terry was pregnant), but I keep expecting a Deadpool appaearance at SOME point. But on the whole, X-Factor seems to steer clear of most continuity altogether. Everyone should disagree with me on everything. I am stupid and uninformed. The only sensible thing is to disagree.
Well, that lime green flared jumpsuit you bought a while back was one glaring mistake.

Wow. Where's that legal?
I never bought into the slippery-slope argument against same-sex marriage until now. But I hope that you and the song are happy together.
No no no. Happy Together was by the Turtles, NOT Roger Daltrey.
But i did like Roger in Highlander the series. Hugh was fun.

I disagree with this statement from Gail. Gail is not stupid and uninformed. She is however, on drugs.

I think Gail is lying about her beef and apple allergies to cover up her Kryptonite allergy.
Her hair isn't naturally red, it is crimson with cherry streaks.
Her entire BOP run was written by Allen Moore after Grant Morrison threw sacrificial blood over his head.

Actually, this creates the STAR TREK paradox: If Gail is stupid and uninformed and the only sensible thing would be to disagree with her, then we would have to conclude Gail is smart and informed, in which case the only sensible thing would be to agree with her, but if we agree that she's stupid and uninformed and the only sensible thing would be to disagree with her...
Erasers. I hear Gail supports pencils with erasers attached.
I am very strongly against the bundled packaging of erasers on pencils. I think pencils should ship separately from erasers, and erasers should be an optional purchase.
I believe that bundling erasers with pencils allows pencil manufacturers an unfair monopoly in the eraser market.
I feel like bumping this thread cause disagreeing with Gail is just to much fun.

Gail lives in Oregon.
With the money she has, she could live in a palace on an island shaped like Wonder Woman off the coast of Dubai and travel between it and the mainland on her Ragdoll shaped motorboat but instead she lives in Oregon.
WHY???

As much as I may be critical of Gail, I really, like her writing (I would buy 2 issues of every issue if she did Taskmaster or Deadpool again)
The only thing I really disagree with Gail is about Marvel women versus DC women. Marvel women I always thought were "stronger/better developed" than their DC counterparts during the 70s and 80s thanks to Bryne and Claremont
Do you EVER actually read anything I say before arguing with it?
Holy shit.

She may be over him, but I doubt he's over her, so to speak. I believe PAD said he never mentions Monet's family or her time with Generation X because the whole Penance/M-Twins storyline confused the hell out of him.
I think that is the problem with a shared continuity when you are trying to keep a certain tone to a book, you have to kindof gloss over some details or else it can hurt your book.

I
Marvel's Black Widow (She is a cool character dammit!)
The Sony PS3 (It's a good system, give it a chance dammit!)
Gun Control (I tend to favor it)
The existence of God and an Afterlife (I think, but I'm unsure about that one isn't she an atheist?)
If these are her stances, then here's how I compare;
I like Black Widow fine
ps3 doesn't have the variety of xbox or the novelty of wii, but I CAN play my ps 1 and 2 games on it
I'm all for stricter gun control
I'm an athiest
Urgh. Will always hate them, but even I have to admit that the board is much nicer with fewer problem children.
think far too many moderaters close threads that are just naturaly morphing off topic or not going the way they like, and such measures should really only be used if some one is being truly hateful and insulting.
I like American Dad
I think Metamorpho is awesome.
Agreed.
She thinks that SCTV is one of the funniest TV shows ever. I strongly disagree...never saw the humor in that.
Yeah...I'm Canadian...and a lot of the actors went on to funny things...and it gave us Great White North...but it was still mostly bleh (though I haven't seen it since I was a teenager).
I disagree with Gail about Byrne too. His public persona is a bitter nasty pill to me -- colors his work product for me.
File sharing.
Why, what are her opinions on Byrne and file sharing? I know she worked with Byrne in Action Comics, but I also know she's friends with Mark Waid, who I've heard hates Byrne...
Also, what are her thoughts on X-Factor? I keep seeing that come up in this thread. That's currently the only Marvel Universe book I'm getting, due to my PAD love (though I looked through an issue of Captain Americas return, and that had me wishing I'd picked that up when it started...now I'm hoping it's collected in trade).
ps3 doesn't have the variety of xbox or the novelty of wii, but I CAN play my ps 1
That was the case a few years ago, but The Ps3 has pretty much caught up to the Xbox 360. Also a Wii like controller is in development and there was a demo for it at Sony's press conference last E3. But it's going to be an optional controller, so you can have your novelty and your variety.

I've disagreed with her on the continued need for a J-Bolt or Olney thread in the past. I'm also on the list of people who are not big fans of her decision to bring mods onto a board like this. However, she doesn't like it either, so there you go. Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown, and all that.
I also disagree with her need to be invited to Dragon*Con and Heroes Con. I say bring a 300 pound trained gorilla and crash the party. Because we all know where a 300 pound gorilla gets to sit, right?
New thing to disagree with Gail on...Bill Mahr, I totally disagree with her about that one.
