I haven't walked out since the price of movies seems to be about the cost of a college education now...but I wish had for The Village. God knows that was a wasted time period. (As my godmom put it, I want a tax write-off for a bad investment.)

I wanted to walk out of "Ghost Rider" but I stayed because I was with people. I also considered walking out of "Sin City" - the grotesque violence was a bit too much for me - but, again, I stayed because I was with a large group of friends. But, in both cases, if I was by myself I would have left.

I swear, after The Village I decided to avoid M. Night like the plague. As his movies have gotten reviews, I see it was the right decision. Actually, The Happening was on HBO earlier today but honestly, not even Markie Mark's hot body can make me keep watching. And he's not a terrible actor, either.

I came very close to walking out of Once Were Warriors. The "make the man some eggs, woman!" scene really did my head in.

I'm glad I saw it through to the end, though. Damn fine movie.

I did walk out of "Lady in the Water". The shaky camera filming style was giving my date a migraine. And honestly, it was a criminal waste of Paul Giamatti's acting ability to give his character a stutter.

Similarly, I almost walked out of "Dancer in the Dark" because the "shaky camera" style of the real world was giving me motion sickness. "Blair Witch Project" was similar, but not as bad on my stomach.

Batman And Robin is actually mentioned in the Geneva Convetion in the part prohibiting the torture of prisoners of war.

You've gotta love that in a movie featuring Bane, a muscle bound psychopath, they give Arnie the part of Mr Freeze, a skinny, tragic scientist driven mad by the loss of his wife. But it did give us my favourite "Terrible Arnie pun" of all time

I nearly walked out of GI JOE but my mate told me to sit it out. GI JOE was offensive.

The movie was about STORYTELLING. There was so much in that movie it was insane.

As a rule I never walked out on a film I paid for, cause I feel that I paid for the big screen movie experience, and I usually go with friends which makes movies that much better to watch, even the bad ones.

The only movie I ever "walked out" on was Unforgiven, and it was because everyone else wanted to leave, even though I was enjoying myself, but they were my ride home.

@Jae: It was a awful movie, but it was also early 80s, and right after Conan the Barabarian. There were a lot of them back then. Most of them awful.

But we also got the Dark Crystal and Labyrinth.

I had never issued so many refunds in my entire career.

I don't get to movies much but I finally saw "Signs" on HBO.

It made me vow to never, ever pay for one of M. Night's movies again.

Sad, though, because I really loved Unbreakable and Sixth Sense.

I usually try to support any serious form of super-hero movie, because i love the concepts of superheroes, from the Pulps to Modern-day. I can read about the Spider and Flash Gordon and switch gears to read X-men or Legion of Super Heroes.

That said, i was disapointed with the Spirt. I WANTED this to be good. Seriously.
I stayed and watched it. But by the time Sam Jackson comes out in a nazi uniform, i know that this is just over and done with.

The sad part is that there is a lot of parts of this movie that are good.
It is almost a great picture which gets bogged down by excess.
And i will admit i still blush when thinking about Eve Mendez nude in that movie.

I've found the Spirit is more enjoyable if you think of it as an OTT comedy film. Sam Jackson certainly did if his performance is anything to go by. It's more "Naked Gun" than "The Dark Knight".

But thats the northern English for you though. If you have paid the money, you are going to stay to the end, you'll gripe about it afterwards but will get your moneys worth.

On a similar note me and my friend sat through an entire screening of Red Planet despite being the only two people in a 200 seat cinema. Man they must have loved us.

I haven't ever walked out on a movie but I thought about it here and there.

I hate Thin Red Line and tried to fall asleep during it. I was with friends so I sort of couldn't leave.

And I hated 28 Days Later. I loved the premise but once stupid characters starting doing stupid things just to get into 'dramatic' or 'exciting' situation I tuned out mentally and it became more of a comedy to me.

That said, I'm seeing posters blast movies I've enjoyed. :frown:

So I walked out and snuck into another theater and ended up watching a movie that became one of my favorites!

My wife and I walk out of movies at the drop of a hat.. A couple of times, it was because of my Black Bolt-caliber snoring (I set a personal best for "The Waitress"). I'm a huge Sam Raimi fan but we recouped at least an hour of our lifespans by bolting an hour into "Drag Me To Hell). There was this chick adultery flick called "Unfaithful" with Diane Lane as the horny house wife and Richard Gere as the clueless git. Masses of people asked us to leave because we were laughing uncontrollably at the unintentional comedy.

If the movie shows no signs of being good, all you've done is forfeit the ticket price (or you can frequently get your money back). I mean, if it sucks, why waste your money AND your time?

I've never walked out of a movie, although I nodded off during The Haunting of Emily Rose. I often complain about commercials showing the 'best' parts of the films, but I kid you not, anything that was *supposed* to be scary, was shown in the commercials. There was nothing new to be seen. The rest of the film was badly written Law and Order fanfiction.

My old roommate walked out on the Spirit, which I would have been fine with if he hadn't asked me to hold off on seeing it until he could go, then made us miss the early showing, and THEN f'ing ditched. So not only did I not enjoy the Spirit, I wasn't too keen on my roomie for a while either.

They let way too much time go by. Clearly they got down to the "Stuff that sucks but will rake in $$$" level of the pile of scripts they are sitting on.

I remember reading a review by a author that i like on the Last IJ movie. Her name is Carrie Vaughn, and she writes about a Late Night Radio show DJ is outed as a Werewolf. Named Kitty.

Well..this is her review of the movie, quoted from her blog:

In February, Vanity Fair did a preview article about Indiana Jones with some great pictures and great interviews with the principle players. Some of the choice quotes gave me clues about what to expect.

Harrison Ford: “That was always a very big part of my ambition for the character, to allow the audience to see his fear, allow the audience to have a chance to see him work his way through the problem, not to be one of those characters that you know is going to succeed.”

So Ford gets it. Cool.

Steven Spielberg: “I had to approximate this younger director’s look that I thought I had moved away from after almost two decades.”

Spielberg also gets it. Cool again.

George Lucas: “And finally we got to a point where everybody said, ‘Look, we’re not doing that movie.’ And I said, ‘Well, look, I can’t think of another MacGuffin. This is it…I won’t do it unless we can have that MacGuffin. Without the MacGuffin, I will not go near this thing.’”

Shit. It’s going to be The Phantom Menace all over again.

So here it is, my short version review: (because I was too damned depressed about the movie to do a longer one. Even though I could. Oh, the rant I could rant. I swear, when we left the theater it was like we’d all been to a funeral.) The parts of Indiana Jones 4 that looked like an Indiana Jones movie were great. The rest of it, the parts that looked like some dumbass cartoon, not so much.

Yes, only two.

One, not under my control. When I was a baby, my mom tells me a story about how she, my aunt, my older sister and I were taken to Terms of Endearment and when some 'racy' scenes came on, my aunt got super embarassed, covered my eyes and demanded that we left the theatre all whilst faking a shortness of breath, illness, heart attack thing. I don't remember any of it, but that's a weird story.

The other time, I was with a girlfriend and we went to see Austin Powers, the first Mike Myers movie and for some reason, it didn't click for us, so we walked out. That one is weird to me, b/c I sooo thought that movie was funny, years later, when I caught it on cable, that I have no idea what was going on in my life at the time that I found it so stupid.

Yep, very recently too.

District 9.

How this horrible, boring, piece of crap is garnering the reviews it's getting is beyond me. I left after 40 minutes. The only "good thing" is I didn't pay for it, a friend of mine literally begged me to go and he offered to pay. I left and waited for him. He wished he had left with me.

The last movie I walked out of prior to that was The Avengers.
Uh what?

1. District 9 was AMAZING and 2. if you walked out after only 40 minutes, then you missed alot of the awesome parts of the movie...

D9 is getting good reviews because it not only have amazing effects, good acting and a well written story... but it actually says something about the human condition.

The only movie I've walked out on:

Dungeons and Dragons.
To give it context... at the time it was playing in the theater... I worked in a movie theater and was seeing it for free and it was so terrible I had to leave!

The only movie I've rented and stopped and returned:

War Inc.

Unbelievable terrible. Very disappointed in Cusack for this one.

When I paid for tickets on the day, no. But since I got a card that gets you as many films as you want for a monthly fee I've done it a few times. I wish I had that card for The Matrix Reloaded. Closest I've ever come to walking out on a film I paid for.

I LOVED DIstrict 9. Such an amazing film.

I have only walked out of two movies, Pitch Black and some awful Meg Ryan movie a few years ago (maybe 5 or so). I honestly don't remember the name. It was a drama though.

EDIT...looked it up. It was "In the Cut".

I think years from now we'll find out "Star Wars" was written and directed by the little man living in George Lucas's head, who took off after Lucas refused to give him a cut of the gross.

walk in in the first place, you don't have to walk out. I have always been very selective about the movies I attend in the theatre. I'm not going to spend $14 for me and my gf if I have any doubt at all as to the quality of a movie.

I drove out of "There's Something about Mary". I figured the first twenty minutes weren't funny, it wasn't gonna get better. I had better things to do... like clean the lint trap in my dryer at home.

Yes! I couldn't muster a chuckle during that flick. The truly hilarious "Ba$ketball" came out about the same time and nobody saw it.

The only movie I have ever walked out on is Spider-Man 3. I enjoyed Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 but I just wasn't enjoying the third movie so I walked out.

I rented the movie later on DVD and enjoyed it but I don't regret walking out on it.

Cloverfield.

Not because it was that horrible. It was bad, but hey, I managed the Matthew Broderick Godzilla. I just couldn't handle the camera work and I had to leave right after they ran up the stairs to see what was going on and right back down after they found out.

I later checked it out from the library to finish wasting my time.

On my own, I've never walked out of a movie, but when I was 12, my mother, grandmother and I went to see Look Who's Talking Too over my strenuous objections. This resulted in an angry exodus about 40 mins. later. I still can't believe the "I told you so" song and choreography I spontaneously created and spent the next hour performing didn't get me grounded.

I don't see very many movies, and the only ones I really wish I had ditched were Star Wars Ep. II: Attack of the Clowns, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Outfits like boxofficemojo.com are doing daily dollar tallies on movies, which often shows a movie opening on Friday either picking up steam or dropping off sharply during the span of a single weekend, strictly because of word of mouth.

I understand why some people will sit through a movie they have no hope of liking because they forked out $12 to see it, but just think how much you can contribute to the common good by badmouthing hundreds of dollars out of the gross receipts.
It's called altruism, people.

Missed that response earlier....

Brian, I was bored to fucking tears. I'm glad you (and others) are enjoying it, but I went in expecting to not like it anyway. I really had zero interest in it, but I was willing to give it a chance to change my mind. It didn't.

It's incredibly rare for a movie to not grab my interest in some way by the 40 minute mark. But I was falling asleep and I didn't even want to remain in the theatre. I left and enjoyed my popcorn out in the lobby for the next hour or so while I waited for my friend. I even got the free refill on the popcorn, that way the trip wasn't totally a waste for me.

And somewhere in Hollywood, movie company executives are trying to figure out how many Congressmen they'll have to buy in order to have a law passed making talking about any movie in a negative fashion a form of copyright infringement, and therefore illegal.

Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again are two exceptions.

Haven't seen the latter (which I know is a Thunderball re-make), but can the 2006 Casino Royale can be considered a "remake"? I know that there was a 1955 teleplay and a 1967 film, neither one serves as source material for 2006 film adaptation.

Anyways I walked out on Como agua para chocolate (Like Water For Chocolate) when it was being screened in the Spanish school I attended in Antigua. To say that the schmaltz was overbearing would actually be an understatement for this awful film.

It works better viewed at home on DVD especially if you have the version that lets you watch it in whatever order you prefer. I think I liked it so much because I read several reviews and synopses before I ever actually watched the movie.

It is a movie of its time. It just does not hold up very well, and it was made cheaply back then. The only interesting thing about that movie iirc was the sword. I LIKED the sword. The rest of the movie was awful, and i LIKED movies like this.

If you are going to go cheesey early 80s fantasy movies, try this one instead:

I gotta say, if a movie promises lusty adventures, and well muscled men running around in their underwear....

If Gail walked away from that, then the movie must have really sucked.

"Have You Ever Walked Out On A Movie? "

I walked out on Schinderler's List one time. We were having dinner. When the check came Schindler's List was all, "Your half is 35 dollars," and I was all, "Sh-yeah, as if," and Schindler's List was all, " you're the one who wanted to go Dutch," and I was all, "yeah, but I only ordered a salad and you got the porterhouse AND a dessert," and I finally just threw Schindler's List a twenty and called a cab.

I consider it one of the finest one acheivements in modern American cinema, but Schindler's List sure is a cheap bastard.
