I switch between a couple different stations. I go through cycles and for the past couple years, it's been more of a rock type. A couple years ago, it was mostly country. I go between because I grew up on classic rock and country but the older I get the more I'm turning into my dad when it comes to music. And this is all in the car, unless I need to wake up with my alarm, which is on Q.
Stations
99X - 97.9 FM. Alternative rock, I think is the style. I don't know. I'm just glad it's back. It went away and I was mad cause I like the random selections.
Q100 - 99.7 FM. Pop. One of those many Q stations. Took over 99X's frequency.
Rock100 - 100.5 FM. Rock, I guess. Took over Q's old spot.
96 Rock - 96.1 FM. Rock. Not a favorite but it's a good between when the others are on commerical breaks.
And if I'm flat out of good music, I hit B98 (98.5). It's like a slightly upgraded easy listening station.

I listen to the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) first thing in the morning for the news and sometimes later in the day if I'm in the car. The CBC has a great show on the history of music, run by Randy Bachman, called "Vinyl Tap" (I think). It also has a really great program called "Ideas' that plays at night, but I often miss that and only catch it in the car going to and from places. Also, "Quirks and Quarks" is a good science program.
Other than that, I sometimes use the seek function and listen to music when I'm taking long car trips.
These days, other than radio, I find that I get most of my news from reading news sites on the internet. I've essentially stopped watching TV news.

I listen to community radio (Triple R and PBS in Melbourne). I avoid commercial radio as much as I can, because it's crap.
I'd like to listen to Pandora, but the record companies have decided they don't want free publicity in any countries besides the US. Then they complain that nobody's buying music. Maybe if they stopped spending so much time and money trying to stop people from listening to music, they might see better results!

There's always a radio on in our house, and always set to the local classical station. I found a nice AM station outta Canada that plays a huge block of Irish, Scottish and Big Band music on Sundays from 4.00 till midnight.
I was listening to local talk radio for a while, but the hosts have become so convinced of their own self-worth in politics -- while physically accomplishing nothing but raising my blood pressure -- that I simply stopped even switching the station.
I usually put BBC World News on in my room when I'm dozing off.

Did you ever listen to Get This? Tony Martin, Ed Kavalee, and the late, great Richard Marsland. Entertaining, intelligent (but not in a snooty way) radio, and on a commercial network!
No wonder it got the arse.

I am half Mexican, Gail. I sadly do not speak it fluently, I can understand a lot more than I speak though, same for Korean. I know enough Spanish to get to the bathrooms, order food, and ..... get slapped. But other than that no, and writing it is a little hard for me to, with the grammar of it.
However, if you are ever in San Antonio, Gail. I'd be glad to show you around town. =] We're a lovely town, great food and fun!
But my favorite artist for Spanish music, she has sadly passed away, is Selena. =] If you ever need inspiration for another great character, look no further than Selena. She died so young, I suggest picking up her Best Hits, I can translate the titles for you if you need them to be.

Because of the BBC iPlayer, which means I can listen to a radio show up to 7 days after it's played, I listen to quite a bit of Radio 1, 2, 5 and 6.
Chris Moyles on Fridays
Scott Mills on Fridays
Jonathan Ross on Saturdays
Adam & Joe on Saturdays
Then I listen to the football, and quiz shows and comedies like Fighting Talk, Just a Minute, Does the Team Think and I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.

I use to listen to Bob Rivers on KZOK Classic Rock, and Rasin and Kennedy on 104.9 The Monkey, but I've been listening to podcast more these days like Geektress, N3rdcast, and Comic Book Queers, I've even considered doing a similar podcast about video games with two of my friends. I could be wrong but I think the days of conventional talk radio may be numbered, just like many things in the music industry.

Not terrestrial radio anymore, but I do stream stuff online, like NPR shows, WNYC programming, and music on KEXP. I do enjoy having Pandora as well since I get a consistent kick of the stuff I want to listen to.
Though I remember a few years ago when I first used Pandora (maybe 2005 or 2006?), I made a Ted Leo station and it played a Hootie and the Blowfish song. Clearly the music genome was in its infancy back then.

No, I don't.
Radio in the United States just plain sucks. I blame the Telecommunications Act of 1996 for that.
The only exception to the rule is NPR.
And the only "alternative" rock station in my city recently went under, and resurfaced with an "All 90s" radio format.
I'm not too sad it's gone, however, cos you can't play bands like Linkin Park and Fall Out Boy and still consider yourself "alternative."
Most of the music I like doesn't get played on the radio anyway.
I listen to several acts whose first language is not English. Most of the music I listen to is made by Italians, or Brasilians and the Taiwanese, who won't get played on terrestrial radio cos Hera forbid Americans be exposed to music made by fuzzy foreigners.*
*Unless they sing in Spanish, which a few of the Italian acts (Eros Ramazzotti) have done, because acts who sing in Spanish tap into the lucrative purse strings of America's largest minority group.
Either that, or it's acts that radio is too scared to play (Immortal Technique).
I've also been listening to the Editors, Cooper Temple Clause, and actively hunting down rare tracks by acts from The Sixties -- I may end up having to pay $23 for the soundtrack to Get Yourself A College Girl just so I can hear a cover of The Standells' cover of C'mon And Swim in its entirety.
Not all of the music on the radio is bad though; I love Keri Hilson's Knocks You Down, so mush so that I listen to it several times a day. But for the most part, I prefer to discover and listen to music outside of that medium.

99X is playing the band (Theory of a Deadman) and next time I need to pay attention to what they sing. There's a couple artists I need to get simply because I like the vocals. Pretty much why I like 99X so much. It's a small station now so they have short commercial breaks. Definitely widened my scope.

I regularly listen to Talksport, which is fairly self-explanatory.
However for the last six weeks I've been glued to Test Match Special on BBC Radio4 LW, which gives live cricket coverage.
Whilst the coverage is excellent, the irreverance of the commentators and their ability to cover not only the game, but goings on in the crowd, interesting facts, historical anecdotes, and lively debate about chocolate cake and pork pies is utterly charming and a very enjoyable way to while away the six hours of play cricket has in a day.
It seems I'm not by myself either, because during the 40 minutes that is the lunch break the TMS team have been joined by characters such as Stephen Fry, Lily Allen and Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Felton, and that's just in the last few days.
Its a shame the Ashes tests are over for a while, because the last six weeks have just flown by.

I've had Sirius radio for two years now,... it's wonderful because I travel a lot for my job, and instead of having to try to search for a station as I switch county's and states, I can just leave it to the varied channels I enjoy on satellite. It does have it's drawbacks in some cities with incredibly high buildings or thick tree overgrowth, but on average, works well, and suits me to a T!

I love Spotify, which is a brilliant music streaming service that is only available in Europe.
There is a free ad supported service and a paid version but I just use the free version as the ads are short and only appear after 20 minutes or so.

I get a couple of college stations. One of them has a guy, Mike Olsen, who plays almost every kind of pop music imaginable. And in the morning, the local rock station lets loose the Big Dogz.
Online, last.fm or live365 for zeroing in on a specific genre like prog rock or gypsy jazz. And Pandora for the mad scientist in me; it's quite educational, it is, sifting through all those genomes.

I live in Atlanta and I just refuse to pay the price of concerts. I've gone to two since 2000's No Strings Attached tour. That was New Kids and Sarah Brightman last October. Floor seats. I just can't see the money for even the cheap seats. I could go to like 50 minor league hockey games for that...and I don't even like sports.

Kayne might be an arrogant idiot, but at least his songs sound different. I can tell them apart. I don't really mind a similar style. It's the same music to different lyrics that pisses me off. Especially with the cost of music. One of the reasons I love Pink so much is that she has a different style each time. Family Portrait wasn't Sober wasn't Most Girls.

I considered going to a NKOTB concert just to see the opening act (Lady GaGa) but then I realised that I didn't want to pay $90 for a concert I'd leave before the main act got on stage :p
And I am considering paying $80 to see my fav singer when he plays Atlantic City in September.
To me, it would be worth it, as it will be the first time Tiziano Ferro will be playing a gig on US soil.
But I don't go out to too many concerts either, unless they happen to be small affairs in clubs.
The last act I saw live in a venue like that was Pete Yorn.
Although Pete isn't the greatest live act, it was still a fairly enjoyable show, and worth the $20 I spent on admission.
I like Pink too :)
Oh, I don't think a similar style is necessarily a bad thing, either, but what I was objecting to was how it can become stale over time if everybody is just doing the same thing.
I mean, my fav band at the moment, Editors, has a post-punk sound that sounds like early U2 and Joy Division.
I don't mind the similarities to their antecedents.
But I do remember the early 2000s and how it seemed like every band on the radio was doing their own version of nu-metal, and that was annoying.

I got lucky and we had Rob Zombie in town for a concert a year ago-ish. Love his music(i have very strange tastes...), and was the most fun small concert i ever went to.
I love Pink. Trouble was my "theme" song for a long time, until i heard Theory of a Deadman's "I hate my life".
My ringtone is Sober. I need to get her album on my iPod soon enough. My adult theme song has always been "Crash and Burn" by Savage Garden.
I considered going to a NKOTB concert just to see the opening act (Lady GaGa) but then I realised that I didn't want to pay $90 for a concert I'd leave before the main act got on stage :p
Lady GaGa gave me a huge headache. Like I couldn't enjoy NKOTB because of the headache 30 minutes of her music gave me. I was more keen on Natasha, the first opening act.
I don't even know who plays club venues anymore. It's too much to deal with, I think. I just do without. My music is good enough.

29 isn't bad, that's true.

You mean like Evanscence or whatever the name of that band was? It sounded like Linkin Park. I just don't get when the same producers keep making the same thing over and over again for different artists.

And if so, what?
I have satellite radio and it barely gets used. On the other hand, I LOVE listening to Pandora on my computer, iphone and television.
I tried to get the Pandora app for my iPod Touch, but it isn't available in Canada.

Yes. EXACTLY.
And I also meant to say $20 (plus a cover charge), not $29.
Yay for gaffes

I sigh when I hear like Timbaland's produced something. I know what it'll be like...and I'll be bored in under 2 seconds.
20's even better nowadays.

Basically I only listen to NPR in the break room at work. That's it basically.

QFT on both statements.
I often add a extra d in Timbaland's name, just before the l.
Most top 40 i can not stand. I usually look at the alternative and hard rock charts for music to enjoy.

I actually like Top 40 as long as it's not on Star 94. I just have to be in the right mood for it. Usually I'm not. I just chase the good alternative rock.
And I always call Timbaland Timberlake. It confuses me every time.

Ditto. Really can not stand either. Daughtery either. Ick.
But..in sake of full disclosure...i do like the song Larger than Life by the Backstreet boys. I HAVE no &^^*(%#*((*^ clue WHY i do. I just do. Proving my musical rule that EVERY performer has at least ONE good song in them...and sometimes you MIGHT even HEAR it.*
* The rule, like most, has a exception. In this case, it is Whitney Houston.

I used to, in the morning as my alarm. But then it got to the point where every other morning I'd hear Strong Bad's voice in my head saying "Morning DJs are like bad stand-up comics that you can't heckle...or jeckle...or throw highball glasses at."

I actually like Timberlake, but he's always working with Timbaland or NERD or something and it's tired and played out right now. Daughtery's good for driving if I want background noise but not caring what's on.
Hi, I liked NSync's German album. I can cast NO boyband stones here. I like Whitney's "I will always love you" over Dolly's. Which is odd for me but there you have it.

Sadly, i will say that IS her best song, as it is the ONLY one i can remember.(I just know virtually every song she has done that became a hit has the word Love in the title.)

Well, it's Whitney. She got famous the same way Celine did: those high notes.
Yes. I believe in 'free' radio. I find the whole subscription thing, wrong.
That said, I'm pretty lazy, wherever I am, I just tune around and listen to whatever...
Z100, 95.5WPLJ, 101.1, 105.1, 104.3, 98.3, 97.1, 102.3 WBAB, 94.3, 92.3 and some other stations. But around here, lately, it seems like some of the channels are changing or something. And these are all local New York FM stations.
