If you found out that the great old ones actually exist and the entire world was living on borrowed time that could end at any moment, would you expose this to the entire world?
Personally, I wouldn't.

No, for the same reason I believe our governments would (and most liekly already have) cover(ed) up proof of alien life. People would flip their shit if they knew for sure there were more powerful and more advanced forms of life that could snuff us out at any moment.

Humanity spent most of the Cold War knowing that if it ever got violent, we'd all die in fire and screaming, and things came close on several occasions. We managed to handle that.

I would not expose Cthulhu to humanity. We would take him down, cage him, and make him into a amusement park.
Cthulhu Park.
We are the scarier ones, by far.
I would certainly expose the Dark One, but only if it was to let people know that he and his band, The Bulldaggers had reunited for one last cosmic music fest.
Maybe even Hiroshima would show.

Not a quote from Cthulhu, but relevant all the same:
"But we were dragons. We were *supposed* to be cruel, cunning, heartless and terrible. But this much I can tell you, you ape -- we never burned and tortured and ripped one another apart and called it morality."

If I had any way of proving it, I would. Can I say with certainty that we could stop the Old Ones? Nope. But I'd have to hope there are those out there more qualified to try than I.

I thought we DID uncover cthulhu? And filmed it.
It was called Cloverfield.

Yes, but only to build up an army to fight that big jerkwad. I do not believe in an unbeatable opponent.

That's because there was probably the common sense portion of our brain telling us that the Russians, no matter how ideologically different, were people like us and wouldn't like the idea of burning in a horrific nuclear holocaust any more than we would.
An alien intelligence, nothing like ours, would give no assurances. That said personally my reaction would probably to just go on one last decadent "End of the World" binge. In other words I'd "Pull a Ragdoll" and make sure my last act was filthy enough to shame the heavens:wink:

If nobody else noticed, that's their own damned fault. Anything that big and madness-inducing should be noticed.

You, Jae, James and anyone else who wants to come along would totally be invited. If it's the end of the world, I want my friends around as we go on a bender that would put Hunter S Thompson to shame, and do things that would make Sasha Grey blush:biggrin:

No. I'm afraid if I saw a schlong that big I'd die of fright.
I'm not exposing him---let him keep it covered within the bowels of his skin flaps, where it belongs.
No, I think there's some things that Cthulu will just have to do by himself.

I liked Cthulu back in the begining, ya know....when he was called KRAKEN.

Krakens are fully aquatic sea monsters basically just overgrown squids. They don't have a humanoid body or dragon wings.

Not that they both don't like to wreck ships and leave very few survivors of course.

Yes, but the similarities between the two on a thematic level are too great to be a coincidence.
The whole concept of the gargantuan sqid-like beast that will rise from the sea and destroy us all during the armageddon is taken from a poem about the Kraken, which itself owes something to the tale of the Leviathan.

That's because there was probably the common sense portion of our brain telling us that the Russians, no matter how ideologically different, were people like us and wouldn't like the idea of burning in a horrific nuclear holocaust any more than we would.
Us people in the business of Mega-death were more frightened than you civilians were, It would not have taken a decision by a world leader to commit suicide , A mistake by a guy who was paid less per-hour that a the people at McDonalds could have made the goof that started it. It came close to that few times, Once when a guy jusy tloaded the wrong magnetic tape.
If you ever wanted to see looks of absolute fear, you should have been on a SAC base when the klaxons went off, the fear lasted until it was announced it was just an exercise, usually after the bombers were moving, sometimes after they were airborne, There was more reason to be afraid than you can imagine.

Ctluthu frighten me less, to little commonality of interest for conflict to arise but maybe we get smashed as an side effect, it's better than people trying to kill me though.
