Ok, so Red Hulk offed Classic Hulk by draining all the Gamma from his body...Is it just me or hasn't this happened before? Energy absorbing characters are a dime a dozen in the MU -- Silver Surfer, Quasar, Captain Marvel (Marr, Genis and Phyla w/o the Quantum Bands), Hyperion (not 616, but still), Dr Strange, Thor, Bishop...the list goes on. Why is this the first time that the Hulk has been permanently ko'ed by an energy absorbing foe?
Now, don't get me wrong, I think a Banner centered comic would be awesome, and I have high hopes for Pak's run, but it seems like this was a bad way for the hulk to go.

I'm not an expert on this kind of stuff, but I felt like this wasn't a simple energy drain. If the Hulk had just been drained, it probably would have meant that he would revert back to Banner and lose his energy. The Hulk would still be inside Banner, but just lost his strength. Imagine yourself just getting really tired. You'll be full of energy later, but right now you just can't do anything. That's what classic energy absorption does in some of those cases(I think).
No, the Red Hulk did something strange to extract the Hulk from Banner. Somehow he took the part of Banner's body that causes him to go into the Hulk. I hope this is one of those moments that someone explains later on, but it was like the Red Hulk was designed to take out the Hulk's specific power source. Like removing a battery.
And like you, I am really looking forward to a series with just Bruce Banner (and son). We havn't seen any character development on his part in the recent series, and after all the madness of WWH it doesnt make sense. The last time Bruce Hulked out, he almost destroyed the world. And he doesn't seem to care, and transforms to the Hulk almost at will. I hope this new series addresses those concerns, and I'm almost certain it will. We're going to see more of the Hulk, that's certain. And I think Bruce might have to accept the fact that the world needs the Hulk, even though he frequently tries to get rid of it. It should be a great series, and it certainly has incredible potential.

I actually really like this idea -- I totally buy it, except that it might be gioving loeb a bit too much credit...it seems to lofty and practical for his taste. Also, Loeb has made a huge deal about Red Hulk being able to absorb power from heavy hitters, including the Power Cosmic from Silver Surfer and the Power Primordial for the Elders of the Universe.
That said, I promote you to executive editor of Hulk!
The question is, if Red Hulk was always capable of doing this... what took him so long?

I've seen this question asked for the last few months, and I still have yet to find a good answer.
That said, looking at the Code Red stuff I might actually be for this characterization of the Hulk...kind of like Travis Bickle meets V, but with less substance and more explosions.
...Of course it will pale before the awesomness of Banner and Son!

no matter what someone does to banner, he will always have the hulk in him. he may not be able to turn into a huge green hulk, but until banner has a psychiatric breakthrough, the hulk persona will always be lurking in there somewhere.

Pretty much.
And speaking of Mechano, I'd love to see him back in that identity even if for a little bit since that was such a goofy yet fun thing back in the Avengers books.

Characters that can siphon of the energy of others are common, but Jeph Loeb's Rulk character is just on another level: He's red. A red Hulk at that. And the books that Rulk gets featured in sell like hotcakes, and that thusly verifies that Rulk's siphoning abilities far exceed the preexsisting characters with this ability.

He wanted to beat him by punching him?
Several times?
