Dirty Deeds!

"Dirty Deeds" is a series of threads where a discussion can be held about the morally questionable, or outright evil acts of characters in comics. It might be a discussion about times a hero crossed a moral line they shouldn't have, or a discussion of a villain's most horrific acts in their history, but the premise remains the same.

Where possible, a poll will be included to vote upon said character's "dirtiest deed".

Please do remember that there are no wrong answers, this is all a matter of opinion. Since everyone has a different set of morals, please try and respect differences in people's own beliefs.

Sometimes, Dirty Deeds is all about the appreciation a regular of these forums has for a character. They just can’t help to want to clear the air, and assure everyone that their most beloved characters are either above any wrongdoing, or they want to talk about how awesome they are when they get their hands dirty. This time, we’re going to talk all about X-Forum regular Azure’s favorite mutant from Mother Russia. I’m of course talking about the late, great…

Laynia Petrovna…

So what is Darkstar’s "Dirtiest Deed"?

- Attempting to capture supposed Russian “defectors”, the Black Widow, Ivan Petrovich, and the Commissar on American soil, and force them to return to the Soviet Republic? (Champions (vol. 1) #7-10)

- In her attack on the Champions’ headquarters, helping free the supervillain known as Rampage? (Champions (vol. 1) #7)

- Trying to kill Ghost Rider by shooting pillars of Darkforce Energy at him, so he would crashe his motorcycle? (Champions (vol. 1) #7)

- Trapping Hercules, Iceman, Ghost Rider and Angel miles and miles underground, in a big steel box? (Champions (vol. 1) #10)

- Attacking the Beast and Magneto, who were seeking out the aid of the Champions to stop Dr. Doom from attacking the White House? (Champions (vol. 1) #16)

- Attempting to murdering the Vanisher by using her powers to cut him in half? (Champions (vol. 1) #17)

- Humiliating Iceman in front of all his friends by announcing, publicly to him, that she never wants to date him? (Spectacular Spider-Man (vol. 1) #19)

- Attacking Iron Man and Jack of Hearts on the surface of the Moon? (Iron Man (vol. 1) #109)

- Attempting to kidnap Dr. Daniel Ironwood on behalf of the KGB to build an anti-matter bomb for the USSR, and battling Spider-Man and Hulk when they tried to rescue him? (Marvel Team-Up Annual (vol. 1) #2)

- Upon investigating spreading radiation near a nuclear site, blaming it on the Hulk, and attacking him? (Incredible Hulk (vol. 2) #258)

- Refusing offers to work together to locate a prize during the Contest of Champions, and instead attacking Sunfire? (Contest of Champions (vol. 1) #2)

- Using her Darkforce powers to bind all of the Avengers while attempting to arrest Magneto before them to bring him to trial for his crimes against the USSR? (X-Men vs. Avengers #2)

- Attempting to kill the Supreme Soviets after being brutally beaten by them, by attacking them in the form of a giant Darkforce bear? (Captain America (vol. 1) #353)

- Killing Threkker to avenge her brother? (Quasar (vol. 1) #54)

- Continuing to blame others for her brother’s death, and trying to murder Quasar for it? (Quasar (vol. 1) #60)

- Battling the Avengers as the pawn of the Russian villain known as Presence? (Avengers (vol. 3) #42-44)

She’s been a member of the Russian Winter Guard, one of the Champions, and even a member of X-Corporation (until her head had a window put in it by Fantomex)! Now, vote for what you think is the worst of Darkstar’s “Dirty Deeds!

Whoever said Dirty Deeds threads were about X-Men?

She was a part of X-Corporation, anyways. That's like, gotta qualify her for health benefits.

The list is too short to be relevant.

It's pretty damned short, alright. I had to go over what Azure PM'ed me and then check to see if there were any that were missed... and I think I only stretched it from like eight to somewhere in the low teens.

When you're preceded by Quicksilver, and Exodus had a thread floating around, in comparison, you'll seem pretty tame.

But if nothing else, at least Azure can't say I never did a Darkstar thread. (double negative, for the win). And I'd also like to discuss the last picture I posted of her...

Anyway, the best thing about Darkstar is that she spent the entirety of The Champions being a Mary Sue, so she got to solve all the problems that were thrown at the team. Apart from this one time, when she accidentally released the Queen Bee from Swarm's pendant, and chaos ensued, that is! But then she moved on and spent almost all of her time being fooled by evil characters into fighting The Avengers and murdering civilians. I most liked when she broke Iceman's heart, though, and he only got over it once he persuaded Mystique to take Darkstar's form in the bedroom.

Also, I like the fact that she was somehow aware of the existence of a giant metal underground box somewhere around the San Andreas Fault, even though she'd never been to America before. "Don't punch your way out of the giant metal box, Hercules! You'll knock San Francisco into the sea!"

Oh, and she was the one who tried to kill Rampage by doing something mechanical to his suit which made him implode. And Natasha Romanov was jealous because Darkstar was prettier and more agile than her.

Sunfire had it coming. We love you Bill Mantlo!

Not close enough. Maybe if I ever get through my full run of X-Forum "Dirty Deeds", I'll take it to the Avengers board for more fun, and do a few there. I'll ask mattbib, as this run winds down here.

I can't believe that Laynia was possessed yet again! Do you think killing Iceman and possibly Vanisher during Necrosha counts as a Dirty Deed?

The mind control makes it debatable. I saw her attack Iceman, but not Vanisher (this time) that I can recall during the crossover so far.

She's Vanisher's nemesis, he's terrified of her. Chris Yost and Craig Kyle have a great grasp of continuity, so I feel confident that this is the direction they are intending to take. Now I think of it, I'm not so sure that Laynia is even possessed. She's just angry.

And the capitalist pigs don't like her when she's angry. Nyet.
