From the pages of BLACKEST NIGHT: BATMAN #1, the following folks rose once more into the land of the living:

Abbatoir!
KGBeast!
Magpie!
The Trigger Twins!
King Snake!
Blockbuster!
Deacon Blackfire!
and Arnold Wesker: the Ventriloquist.........who can summon Scarface through his BL ring!

(A fairly ecclectic group of folks, ain't it?)

Oh.......and 2 sets of parents too.

There's a couple in there I am very happy to see, characters I didn't think should have been killed in the first place.

Funny, I always thought King Snake was more of a Robin (Tim Drake) villain.

King Snake was Bane's dear old dad , shouldn't he be involved ?

Agreed, personally I loved Arnold Wesker and Scarface together. I might be a bit biased from B:TAS but I was mad when they were killed off in the comics.

I hope they use this as an opportunity to keep Wesker alive.

Amen to that because I'm more familar with the animated counterparts of Scarface and Wesker than their comic book ones.

Still I'm kind of surprised to see Wesker being chosen as a Black Lantern.

Nice thing about the Black Lanterns is they don't have to be choosy. None of this "two per sector" nonsense... if you're dead, you're in.

Unless you're Film Freak.

that's a pretty sweet set of villains

I'm glad they saw fit not to include Black Mask

That's quite a roster of villians.

Personally,I am glad to see that Wesker,Scarface and Blackfire in.

I can't help but wonder if they knew they were going to bring a couple of these characters back as Black Lanterns when they killed them. Arnold Wesker's death really came out of left field, for me. And I'm pretty sure the Blackest Night storyline has been in the works since before they killed him.

Either way, add me to the list of people who hope he sticks around.

I'd like to see King Snake stay alive. Tim Drake needs a true archnemesis. Plus he can torment the Secret Six. The rest can stay dead, frankly. I don't think we're through seeing dead Bat-villains. Black Mask I, Orca, and Film Freak could show up yet.

But none of these people are really "alive," are they? Aren't these just animated corpses?

I would think so. Boston Brand watched his own corpse rise out of it's grave, so I don't see how he could be a ghost, or whatever he is, and be inside the body at the same time. If someone thinks this is possible and has a good explanation, please feel free to correct me.

My question is regarding KGBeast: Didn't we see his head in a jar a while back? Are we supposed to forget that, or is it part of that whole "doesn't have to be a body" thing? Maybe Black Lanterns can regrow essential body parts? Perhaps this is simply proof that they're not really the people they appear to be? I don't know. Any other guesses?

I know comic books (and zombie stories) have no obligation to make sense, but that kind of got to me. We actually see that there's no "soul" trapped inside the bodies, and yet they seem to have twisted versions of the original personalities attached.

If we are supposed to totally ignore that, then so be it--I will. It occurs to me that it could mean something though. Could it be an indication that the "private" knowledge these zombies have about their opponents is coming from somewhere else? Someone powerful enough to know who all the heroes are, and everything about them "behind the masks"? I mean Black Hand has never been presented as anyone on that level before, so it would have to be someone else pulling the strings.

I'm actually happy and curious to see how this turns out. This is one of the few events where I plan on buying the tie ins.

Well, the Black Lantern Guardian (Scar) seemed to know a lot about various heroes and villains in her big ol' book...

We haven't seen if Deadman's zombie body has a twisted version of his personality yet.

I'm sorta sad to see KG Beast...he was once upon a time...the best fighter I ever saw Batman fight. For him to lose to Harvey Dent was just pathetic.

I always thought the best ending...was that guy that lost to Robin and Dent was pretending to be the Beast...oh well.

Yeah, in the Metropolis battle of Infinite Crisis. I forgot exactly who did it, though.

the biggest obstacle as a newbie for reading blackest night has been that i barely recognize any of these heroes/villians real names. i really enjoyed BN batman #1.

I am in the some boat, but I very much enjoyed the Batman tie-in. I like Tomasi's Corps too, so I might continue reading some of his Batman after BN.

I'm betting that all the Black Lanterns will remain alive, after being restored to their original selves when Black Hand is defeated. They won't be Black Lanterns anymore but they'll be alive again

As much as I would like that, I don't see Kal-L or some of the others come back, maybe Arthur and J'onn (and those "killed" through all this).
But as we don't know who is "inhabiting" the corpses, they may not.
