According to Variety, Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption) is close to settling a deal with AMC to write and direct a series based on everyone's favorite zombie ongoing series, Walking Dead.

AMC exec even gives a quote talking about how great Kirkman's writing is... this really looks like it will happen. I never thought we'd get Walking Dead in actual series format like it deserves. Hope it all gets finalized and we get the series soon!

Nothing that hasn't been done on The Shield.

Yeah, fans still talk about the end of that first episode, where Vick shoots Terry Crowley in the head...because he is a zombie. :)

This is GREAT NEWS. I mean a lot of us in LCS have wanted a Walking Dead series and if Kirkman keeps it as true to the comics it will be great. AMC really to me is jumping ahead of FX and HBO for this. I get AMC...too !

Who is the cast gonna be?

Random Zombie #27 should be Simon Pegg for sure

Random Zombie #13 should be Christopher Lee

Nick Frost is offended you decided to ignore his clearly-earned role as Random Zombie #28, and Dennis Hopper obviously needs to be Random Zombie #2.

But in all seriousness, my dream cast thus far...

Officer Rick Grimes...Ben Browder (Farscape, Stargate SG-1)
Dale...Tom Mardirosian (Oz)
The Governor...Robert Knepper (Carnivale, Prison Break, Gas Food Lodging)
Tyrese...Mathew St. Patrick (Six Feet Under)
Michonne...Kandyse McClure (Battlestar Galactica, Jeremiah, Sanctuary)
Thomas Richards...Dakin Matthews (Carnivale)
Hershel Green...James Cromwell (L.A. Confidential, Babe, Six Feet Under)
Shane...Josh Holloway (Lost)
Lori Grimes...Kim Dickens (Deadwood, Thank You For Smoking)

This is going to suck.
Cable channels runs their TV-MA stuff at around 11pm the earliest and its STILL nothing close to a rater R film. TV-MA basically means you can curse a bit, show blood in wounds, and some adult content.

The only way AMC would get close to anything like normal Zombie movie would be if they ran the thing at 3 in the morning.

I think whoever is making this hurried to get a deal and really compromised the project. They should waited to get a deal that served the work better.

TWD has *never* been about the zombies.

it has always been about the Humans remaining, and what they are willing to do to (and for) each other to survive.

the "work" would be served just fine if there was never an actual zombie attack filmed.

Heck, I'd love it if we never even see the zombies -- just hear noises, and show the characters talking about them.

I think AMC is a perfect fit.

would I rather see it on HBO? I think it would have a longer life-span there, but yeah. . AMC works for me.

good for Kirkman.

I won't go quite that far, but I will say that if you're familiar with the way AMC has handled it's original programming (particularly Breaking Bad), you should feel confident that they'll do the material justice. For instance, in one of BB's episodes last season, they had a decapitated head on the back of a tortoise explode in the middle of a group of DEA agents, raining down blood and body parts. Trust me, it will be edgy.

Did everyone miss the fact AMC touts the horror movies they do in October as big draws ? That those films are gorey as hell and lure viewers ? Its a cable channel , they'll slap a TV-MA and warn of graphic voilence , scenes of blood and sexual situations.

And it's not like the series has to cost that much. Most of the comic took place either in a van or a prison, depending on how they adapt it.

What am I saying, it's going to be Kung Fu with zombies, one man wondering the country fighting zombies from town to town.

The biggest cost will be filming outside a city ...(to double as Atlanta GA) for that 1st season. I suspect as I told a Walking Dead buddie , your gonna see a lot of padding to make each arc go a season. Odds are we'll likely see in a 10-12 episode season ...a lot of background done on Rick/Lori/Carl , Shane , Dale , Audria and Amy , etc etc.... those characters will get a lot of backstory in the TV series.

I consider Walking Dead a type of Lost series. Like... where the fuck will it go next ?

Willem Dafoe should be the Gov'na.

Because he is awesome.
