MD, got the novel, but haven't read it yet since I want to finish up what I'm reading right now. Once I'm finished reading the book that I'm reading right now then OH YES! I will definitely be tearing into the The Runes of the Earth!

That is quite a lame joke, friend. If you didn't like the series, just say so ... but have a bit of respect for the people who did.

Besides, just how many of the nine books did you read?

That argument has been put to me several times before in the past by people who couldn't even get thru Book One: Lord Foul's Bane before they pre-maturely judged the entire series ... then went back to realize that they were horribly wrong.

I loved the series, but to be fair they were not horribly wrong, the parallels were incredibly similar, that being said the book had a drive that was all it's own.

I am looking forward to this but dunno if I can handle the depression again ;)

I didn't even know there was a third chronicles....

Never made it to the end of the first series - though I did enjoy it.

got go and re-read me the adventures of every bodies favourite leprocy suffering, dis-beliving, daughter loving, one-off rapist.

I thought the first series was excellent. The second was quite disappointing. I have no interest in following the character further.

I'll probably read the last series when all the books are out. Read the first two series years ago and enjoyed them. So will probably begin to reread the entire series as soon as i know when the last book will be offered. It is worth a read for any 'questing' fantasy fans that are tired of the standard fare that is out there.

He misspoke. It's the third chronicles, but the full title is "The Runes of the Earth (The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, Book 1)"
Looks like there will be four books in all.
I read the entire series in high school. I may read these, too. but they will have to come out in paperback first.

It's weird to read a Donaldson book where the protagonist isn't suffering some kind of debilitating personal crisis!

RotE was good. Not as good as the first trilogy, but about as good as the second. I have to admit to a certain fanboyish enthusiasm for filling in the historical gaps!

(For that matter: one of my main problems with the book is that this didn't happen enough. OK, it's nice to see what the Viles were like. But... two thousand years, and virtually nothing's happened in the Land! Except for the goofily-named Kevin's Dirt! Argh!)

I so hear you, I had to take a 6 month breather before I started the second series.

Runes of the Earth was really good IMO. My gripes would be too many mysterious, unexplained goings-on, like in terms of characters and just generally whacky shit going on. I was holding up okay til he threw in that Mahdoubt woman right at the end.

The Haruchai are arseholes. At least Bannor seemed like he was kind of half-ass getting the point at times.

I thought the first trilogy was great, but couldn't force myself to finish reading the second.

Lord Foul's Bane is a damn hard book to get through though.

The first half is just walking along through fields.

I enjoyed all of the books of that series, and didn't find them too hard to get through...

But hell, I enjoyed The Silmarillion...
I would buy the books if I had the dough, but that damned dentist of mine has it all... :(

AGREED!

Illearth War and Power that Preserves more than make up for it though.
