Hey guys, let me start by saying that I do NOT read comics often.. AT ALL. When I do, it's mostly Alan Moore's stuff to see how badly it was butchered for the films. I was big into Green Lantern as a kid but just kind of fell out of it. Anyways, I love a good graphic novel. Cheaper than buying 40 comics, etc (I'm assuming a GN is just a story arc wrapped in a single book?) Anyways, I ran across this the other day and am debating buying it. I've never really read a Batman comic... Will this be a problem with this book? Which Robin is this (I know there were at least two). Is it always the same Robin in the Robin stories? And, IS THIS AN OVERALL GOOD BOOK? Thanks for the time guys.

This is about Tim Drake, the third Robin. It is actually the final arc from the Robin comic book, which wrapped up earlier this year. He is presently fighting crime under the guise of Red Robin.
This isn't really a "Batman" book. Batman doesn't appear at all and is, in fact, presumed dead at the time.
Certainly there will be a few things you'll have questions about but, overall, I think you could understand it okay.
On the other hand, I'd only rate this story as average at best; there are a lot of better choices out there. Were you specifically looking for something focusing on Robin?

If you don't read many comics and generally stick to Alan Moore then I doubt you'll be impressed with this. It's middle of the road superhero fare. There's 20 better Batman books you could find in a general bookstore

Yes, I am looking specifically for Robin. Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm also open to Nightwing. I want to see how the Batman characters run without Batman.

Easy, pick up Batman & Robin #1 or Red Robin #1 and go from there  . It's Dick Grayson and Tim Drake doing there own thing and they're better than any solo trades you'll find imo. Issue 3 will be out this month for both titles so it's not like you have alot of catching up to do. Get in on the ground floor. There's really no Robin or Nightwing trades I'd go out of my way to reccomend. but maybe there just not my thing.

Thanks guys! Can someone clear me up on all the lingo? I believe TPB is a normal comic book, and the graphic novels are story arcs wrapped in one book... How off am I? lol. ANd I'll definitely check out the books.

A TPB is a Trade Paper back Collection of Issues Usually a whole story arc.
A Graphic Novel is a very loose term. Some would say a TPB is a Graphic Novel. But I like to think that Graphic Novel is something completly Self-Contained with little or no more story than whats in the Book itself. Like I'd say "Watchmen" "V For Vendetta", and The "Bone" One Volume Edition are Graphic Novels because Pretty much everything is there in that one book.

TPB stands for trade paperback and these are generally collections of story arcs that were originally serialized in the monthly comic books. Graphic Novel, in its original meaning, was a long comic story written specifically for book format. However, I've noticed that a lot of fans use the two terms interchangeably anymore.
