Kinda looks like what Wanted should have been to me.

Wow. Looks like a fan-made trailer from Youtube. Sad that it's the real thing.

Aside from rabid comic book fans, I can’t even imagine who they think will want to see this. (Although I’m still trying to decide whether the inevitable backlash caused by the depiction of little kids engaged in brutal vigilante violence and murder will help or hurt the box office.)

I'm not familiar with the source material, but this could be fun in a sort of "Mystery Men" way...with more violence. Although I can see how most would be put-off or confused by the trailer (myself, the latter) with the mixed imagery of young kids and ultra violence, which may lead to some thinking "Is this like Spy Kids? or Wanted? Can I take my kids to see this?". I think, in the end, bad marketing will hurt this movie.
I never read the comic. Is it supposed to be a parody of ultra-violent comics or what? I ask because the movie looks more like it'll either be a halfways funny comedy or a lousy action movie.

I thought the comic was supposed to be a "realistic" take on super heroes and stuff. This movie just makes it look like another comic book movie with all those special tricks and stuff.
Stuff.

Ummm...not really, no. It's more of an attempt to create a realistic look at what would actually happen if a bunch of comic reading kids did decide to become superheroes. That is to say, that they become masked vigilantes, rather than people with actual superpowers - no-one in Kick-Ass has real superpowers. The book follows the main character, Kick-Ass (that's his hero name) going up against petty street criminals, drug dealers and eventually big time organised crime...with all the stupidity, bone crunching violence and sickening gore that you would expect if this were to occur in the real world.
Myself, I love the Kick-Ass comic book but I have mixed feelings about this trailer. For a start it seems to be a lot more tongue-in-cheek and "done for laughs" than the comic book is and in addition, visually it looks a bit too much like every other superhero film. Kick-Ass is supposed to be set in the real world and as such, I would've liked to have seen a more "everyday" looking movie, rather than something that looks like an action movie.
I dunno, I'll reserve judgment until I've seen the trailer properly because that pirate copy is fairly poor quality.

I only skimmed the first couple issues. I though the whole thing was a comedy, due to the fact that kids of course *can't* fight crime in silly costumes and expect any measure of success. The first time the main character tries, he gets gang-beaten and is left for dead. Later on he actually becomes a gun-kata master, as the trailer suggests?!
And yeah...kids blowing away people...can't wait for the uproar about that...

While that's all certainly true, I wouldn't say that the comics are comedic. Rather they're a more accurate look at what would actually happen if a wet-behind-the-ears teenager dressed up and went out to fight crime in real life.
The series does have its humourous aspects for sure, but I think it falls short of being a comedy.

You seem to be confusing two completely different characters, especially considering the fact that one of them is a teenage boy, and the other is a ten year-old girl. The girl is Hitgirl, who's actually be trained by her father who was a former cop. That's the one doing all the gun tricks in the trailer. Kick-Ass is the one always getting his ass kicked.
