View Full Version : Would you be ready for a live action Batman series?

I was just thinking the other day, the Superman franchise has continuously had live action television shows (The Adventures of Superman, Superboy, Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Smallville) one after the other, and Batman has only had one (Batman, the 1966 show).

Would a live action show version of the Batman animated series work somehow (presuming they can get over the copyright issues)? Would there be too much fanboy wank in regards to casting? Would the costumes not look cheap? (There'll be a pretty tight budget, after all). Would there be too much Batman overload considering the Nolan series is still ongoing??

I think it would be good, If it had the production quality of a show like Heroes or any HBO series.

Maybe if they did a Sin City / Spirit kind of thing were most of the scenes were shot in front of a blue screen, they could save on costs.

Gotham has enough characters to keep a serialized tv show interesting, I think.

I don't think i'd like to see a Batman TV series at all, but a Gotham Central series could work. Or maybe even a Catwoman series, based around the Brubaker / Cooke ideas.

IF a new live action Batman series was NOTHING like the 60s version and more than the fan film Dead End.

For those who have never seen it. and by more like this I mean more like the comics.

I think it would be pretty cool....

what i would like is they do a batman tv show similar to smallville...... having a "young" bruce wayne.... and how he takes and investigates criminals, and basically is life and how he is destined to become the batman.......

Bruce does not wear the batman suit until later seasons, so the first 5 or 6 seasons he just wears a mask black shirt and pants and has some gadgets.he is not the batman yet, they just call him "The Gotham City Vigialante" or something

but then in the 7th season, he decides to officially become the batman, and wears the bat-suit; yet it would be a similar rip-off of smallville it be pretty cool; hopefully it could be made buy the same creator of smallville

The Show simpally called Gotham

I like the idea of a smallville based around Bruce Wayne but I dislike the idea of him even operating in Gotham. I'd prefer 5-6 seasons of his training: meeting Ras Al'ghul, perhaps a story involving Bane being created, etc.

Perhaps the last season could have him return, meeting Gordon, Harvey Dent and preparing for his war. Last episode would be a two parter based on Year one.

how bout something like this

seasons 1-4= Training with Ras Al Gul, living in his villiage, falls in love with a girl who also trains with Ras; has 1 best friend.... fighting theives, assassins who oppose Ra; Fighting Ras many enimies; while still training, bruce should kill his enimies during these seasons; and then stops killing and leaves Ras,

seasons 5-6= Leaving Ras; return to gotham (maybe Ras is like early lex luthor in smallville; a close friend to Bruce, but then becomes a villian) Bruce wears a black mask black shirt and black pants, and becoming a vigilante

Season 7- Becoming the Batman; while fighting Ras; Bane, Catwoman storyline other batman villians

Season 8- taking down Ras once and for all..... entering Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) Robin etc.

No Joker, no one else could be good as Heath

A Bane storyline could be cool, during the whole season 7

and top it off with a feature film.. a direct- to dvd film............ he marries the girl who trained with Ras

I wasn't thinking a Batman Begins style myself, where he is only with Ras. I probably would of had him traveling the entire world, spending time with Ras, henri ducard, wildcat, all the detectives, several martial artist, etc.

But yeah, I wouldn't want Joker, Two-Face, Freeze or any other big name Gotham only villains in it at all.

Ras is really close to Bruce kind of like how lex was to clark in smallville; bruce really shouldn't escape batman style but more like leaves or runs away and night or something

I'd rather see the Dick Grayson show than Batman or MCU.

Just not by the producers of Smallville. I wonder if it would ever be feasible for Warners to lease out a property to HBO.

i wouldn't mine a grayson show; but i think the general audience would much rather have a "young bruce wayne" show similar to smallville....

the show im thinkin of really doesn't start him as the Batman; i have somewhere around 3 layers, or 3 layers that would make it cool and make it essential

Layer 1- training with Ras; assassinating targets; fighting Ras enimies training with the best fighters around the world..... Bruce is killing his enimies with a sword ; but then later opposes it

Layer 2- Escaping Ras; Returning to Gotham and becomes a vigilante where he just wears a black mask, black shirt; and pants have some good villians nothing major like joker or penquin, maybe catwoman.... (he is not the batman yet just a vigilante

Layer 3- Becoming the Batman wearing the suit; Bane storyline;

Im 50-50 on this but maybe a huge story arc with Clark Kent; they should wait until Clark is in a costume and is labeled as a superhero from the public and wait until Bruce is the Batman; maybe 8-9 episodes of this... so basically this show and smallville would be in the same continuity..... maybe have some hints of the upcoming arc; so in a episode before the arc on smallville Clark is reading a paper about Gotham City "The Batman" for a few minutes and makes a joke about it vice verse, have some hints of the upcoming arc...

I think spending all his time with Ras could work but I wouldn't be happy with Bruce being an assassin. I like the idea of him consciously going to train with the intent of crime fighting and being an assassin seems to counter that ideal.

but what i said early 3 good layers

1. training traveling with ras fighting his enimies; he has told Ras he would not kill and Ras is fine with that, but Bruce does some completely insane stuff to his enimies

2. returning to gotham becoming a vigialnte black mask black shirt and pants

3. becoming the batman; dones the bat suit fights ras one last time

I always heard Smallville was originally going to be a Batman show called Bruce Wayne. Michael Rosenbaum was going to be Harvey Dent instead of Lex, if I remember correctly.

Given the limited budgets of tv shows, it would probably end up something like Smallville, and I'm not interested in seeing Batman on the cheap.

This could actually be pretty cool. I always thought live-action Superman never looked quite right, but Batman is, after all, an ordinary(ish) person. And the CGI budget wouldn't have to be too high.

You're right, but I meant that the whole conversation that we're having right now sounded like a conversation we were having back then.

But yeah, WB was kicking around ideas about a live action Bruce Wayne show long ago.

Anyone remember Birds Of Prey?

Gosh no Smallville version of Bruce Wayne. I can already see it. The 2 hour pilot will be the parents being shot at the theater story, than they'll show some epic scene with teenage Bruce with Alfred doing some ~foreshadowing~, then next we have 8 seasons of him wearing black and gray jackets, mopping around and brooding? Enough!

My thread wasn't made with any intent of a discussion for a Smallville like Batman show. I was actually afraid that the thread might turn into that. I was talking about a live action version of Batman the Animated Series.
