I enjoyed it when it aired. I bought the DVD (discounted) when it came out. Enjoyed it again. It was what it was: fun, dumb, light entrtainment for an audience that didn't know or care about comic book "canon."

No, you're not. 99% of people on this board were disappointed in it...
...back when it was on the air. 7 years ago.
The reason you may think you're the only one disappointed by it is because nobody talks about it anymore. It came, it sucked, it went. A friend of mine worked on the pilot, and when asked what he thought of it, he replied "The best part about it was Mark Hamill as the voice of the Joker."

Weren't Misfit and Black Alice created in the last 3 or so years?
Yeah, the show was a disaster of epic proportions. The convoluted backstory they came up with to "streamline" the setting was so ridiculous they needed an intro to explain it, for crying out loud. The lead character was awfully hot though.

I would have loved to see a Bruce Trimm animated version.

They probably couldn't use Nightwing/Dick Grayson. And, as has been pointed out, the comic back then didn't have a rotating cast of members. It was just Barbara and Dinah.
Overall, I thought the show was okay. I knew it wasn't going to be Shakespeare so I wasn't very disappointed when it was average, at best. I did enjoy the hero-in-training part for Dinah and was saddened when it got cut short. Helena, though, didn't really work for me. If I recall correctly, she was supposed to be a thief with a heart of gold. I just never bought the heart of gold part.

She wasn't supposed to have a heart of gold. The lack of one was one of the main elements of her character. She took after her mother not her father; she was in it for the action and thrill not the altruistic heroism. She didn't take to the whole hero thing naturally; it was Barbara who pushed her in that direction, and there were times when she rebelled against it. During some of the early episodes she more than once lamented the fact that she couldn't just kill the bad guys, and it wasn't clear whether she was joking.

The show debuted to huge ratings for the network. The ratings eroded every week due to a weak show (casting and writing, imho). The audience was clearly there for the taking.
