Well the preview for the first issue just went up on the DC blog.

The art is nothing spectacular and the writing is somewhat mediocre. Still no clue as to who it is, though the suit and actions seem to imply it's Cass, though the dialogue does not.
DC really should stop trying to get us excited about this, it's all become far too annoying IMO.

Well, last time we saw Cass, she was still Batgirl, so I've always assumed she still would be at the open of this book so that they could explain her away before bringing in the new girl.

I've never been a Batgirl fan, but I have been enjoying all the "Reborn" books. I may check out the first arc.

Eh, I'd say the art is adequate, and you can't judge writing by the first four pages of something.

What a strange thing to say. They have done very little promotion at all to this point and I think it's about time we start seeing some.

The art would work great for a Cass ongoing.

I don't mind a mystery as long as they keep it reasonable and not ridiculous (or 'Rulk', for short)

I'd like a definitive answer in #1 and if not, a pretty good reason why we'd have to wait until #2.

Also, anyone getting 'BTAS: Mystery of the Batwoman' vibes from this too?

Art looks fine. Can't wait until next week when we get a decent look at the book.

That's seriously the only non-Cass way I'd buy it, unless Babs is back amongst the Corps.

I am looking forward to reading reviews of this book, and that's as far as I'll commit myself right now. I nearly always "wait for the trade" these days, and so far I have no reason to think my attitude toward the new "Batgirl" series will be any different. But I am mildly curious about the identity of the new Batgirl, so I'll go ahead and read other people's reviews of "Batgirl #1" and see what's going on.

Of course, it's always possible that DC intends to handle this new Batgirl the way Jim Valentino handled his "Shadowhawk" character in the early 90s -- which is to say, stretch out the mystery of "Who IS the vigilante behind the mask? Which of several suspects in the supporting cast actually has a double life?" for several issues before finally committing themselves.

The inner narration carries a definite vibe of Steph's old diary entries, and the fact that she screwed up the rescue but still kinda succeeded (partially due to luck) smacks of Steph. I dunno.

It would be pretty interesting if it's Steph, Cass, and/or Babs sharing the role, although I don't know how likely that is.

I loved that series. The second person narrative is unique, as was the M.O. of the vigilante in question. I wonder how Batman would feel about Shadowhawk running around Gotham?

I know its only a few pages but already i feel a little disapointed with it.

Personally, I have always enjoyed the concept of Batgirl, in all her many forms, and that's probably part of the reason I'm so looking forward to this.

I've seen alot of half assed promotion that encourage us to guess who it is, and ply is with teasers for the last few weeks. I've seen it on their blog, on comic websites on the DC nation thingy at the back of issues. And the interviews, the pointless interviews, that tell us not a thing just that we'll love it and we should buy it and we wont be dissapointed. It's all been dragged out for far too long and a lot of initial excitment or interest people may have had seems to have dried up, I know mine has.

Well, yeah, there have been a few teasers (those non-revealing covers), but nothing I'd call substantial promotion.
