Good episode. Reestablished the dynamics of the Shawn and Juliet situation in case you missed it.

The whole Gus being his replacement date was hilarious.

Man, Cary Elwes has gotten big, but is still great.

Thomas Crown Affair and Remington Steele references, and some weird Chuck flashes at the beginning.

Count me among those who was surprised by how big Cary Elwes has gotten. I really liked the episode and thought it was a solid way to start the new season (and I liked how they were featuring the psych phone skin from last season's Christmas episode).

What I really liked about Gus being the replacement date was that it dawned on me just before gus realized it. It was either perfect timing or I'm slow/fast.

I've been waiting for the new season of Psych since the end of the last season.

Anyone else noticed that the villains are starting to be up graded more now? I mean serial psycho killers in the last season and now international james bond like art thief in this episode. It seems like they are evolving show.

corbin bernsen is a great actor...defintiely can be used in different ways on the show, and adds something to every scene he's in...

cant really compare on the ratings...psych is on USA, mentalist is a primetime show on a major network...

still like both shows..

Ok, my wife is like the uber-Psych fan, and I watch it, and get a kick out of it...but....

I'm getting sick of the format of the last 15 episodes. In the beginning, Shawn would wait to throw is observations around, and he was more careful. Now, he is ALWAYS wrong for the first 30 minutes, but right for the last 10 minutes. It is getting extremely annoying.

They both tend to dial it down, as they're dramas. Patrick Jane has a sense of humor though.

Monk & Psych should do a crossover , seeing as how they are on the same network , one show followed after the other , they do the promos with them together. Might as well have a case with them together.

Jane went through the tragedy of losing his family; blaming his arrogance. Shawn had a scare with his Mom, but otherwise has had it pretty easy.

I agree with all these comments. This is one of the best shows every. I also don't see Shawn as smug although he can be sometimes. He seems more like a person who is just on all the time and can't turn it off and be serious. Is it just me or was anyone else just a little bit uncomfortable with some of Shawn's outburst in this episode. Some of it was a bit racist, like when he yelled out Indian giver, but still I was laughing my ass off. I couldn't help it. He's so inapporiate sometimes but so charming all at once.

They've been doing a great job of developing his character. He's not longer a one dimensional hard ass foil for Shawn; but there's still a rivalry.

Larisa Oleynik! I don't think I've seen her in eight years. I've never seen her gothed out. She used to bear an uncanny resemblance to someone I dated in high school.

"Well, look who's on the black and tan express."

"Skip here has romantic dreams about firemen who look like Dolph Lundgren."

Making baby dolls into wrestlers is the weirdest thing I've seen, and I know some bigtime wrestling fans.

The high-school Shawn and Gus actors suck. They're just doing bad impressions.

The writing is really bad on those as well. Last nights had like three references to running gags in a row. How often does a "wait for it" a fist bump, a pineapple and an "I've heard it both ways," come in a 30 second time frame on the actual show? Never. The shorts are very low quality, they're trying to reduce the characters to catch phrases, and it wasn't a way to get high quality humor from Bart and Homer Simpson on Butterfingers commercial, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise to see it fail again. I agree with the actors not being great, but I don't know how much of it is their ability and how much of it is the level of the writing and dialogue.

This kind of thing is exactly what turned me off to 30 minute sitcoms. After everyone says their catch phrase, and the featured performer makes his/her big entrance and does their funny bit; there's not much room for development.

I like the 4th-wall nods to the peculiarities of the show... that one episode where Shawn says they solve a case a week, and usually one at Christmas (disappointed there wasn't a Christmas ep for 2009), and in this episode, Abigail saying she'd be back for a bit on February 24th (a Wednesday). Hopefully they accounted for any Olympic delays when they wrote that.

Shawn's going a bit far with his disrespectful attitude lately... giving Lassie grief is one thing, but a US Army major-general? At least it's not the racially insensitive oh-so-close-to-downright-offensive stuff he was dishing out last season

I remember once Shawn mentioned how many cases they had solved, and I'm pretty sure it was the same number of episodes up to that point.

But I think my favorite continuity bit was in this episode, when Julia was pissed at Shawn and Guss chimed in that they accused his parents of being killers on Christmas.

Well, nine times out of ten anyone played by Robert Patrick is the bad guy, so I'm sure he just rubbed Shawn the wrong way. But I'd really like to see Shawn just mouth off to a the wrong guy at some point and get decked. I imagine Guss's reaction would be "I'm surprised that doesn't happen more often."

Monk did that, too... and frankly, that annoys me. Does Monk do nothing else but homicides? Psych, too? Are they never consulted for some burglary that gets solved with a minimum of fuss that wouldn't make for a very fun episode? What do they do during all their downtime between the weekly often-set-many-weeks/months-apart cases? (not to mention, the months between seasons!) The Bollywood episode took place across several weeks, as I recall.

There have been a couple of non-murder episodes of Psych, and more than a couple when no one dies.

1-04, 1-08, 1-13 and 1-14, 2-01, 3-03, 3-04, 3-08, 4-01 and 4-06 all had no deaths, although several of those do have attempted murders.

Shawn slapping a man in a fight and then saying "I'm not proud of that" was probably my favorite moment. That said, the rafting ep did feature Stacy Keibler, always nice to see.

I think the people making the show must include some big wrestling fans. Sure, the John Cena and Mickie James guest spots can be written off as cross promotion. But a Kamala reference, Shawn and Guess watching a PPV while playing with toys, and now a mid-fight HBK nip-up?! It has to be deliberate.

I think that a lot of wrestling fans got sucked into the show when it started, and being shown after RAW, I know I did. And all the guys that write and act, Dule, James, Steve Franks, Andy Berman, are all old school wrestling fans, like any red blooded, male, 80's baby.

Unfortunately I just found this thread. I've been in love with Psych since the very first episode and I watch every week. Now that being said, I'm not crazy about this season. I especially hated Shawn dating Abigail. I get that they wanted to explore the relationship side of Shawn's character but I just hated her. Moving on, since she left it's been sooooo much better. Shawn was a little over the top last episode. During the think tank scene his antics got tiring halfway through. I didn't want him to get all serious but he should have toned it down some and get to business.

And the whole President Mitchell bit made Shawn look like a moron, not knowing that Mitchell is a character in a movie. It would have been better if somehow Shawn made it known that he knows Mitchell is a movie character he's just pretending to drive Gus a little crazy.

Agreed on all points. Rein it in a little. Shawn's a slacker (I can certainly relate) but he can get serious AND he's pretty smart... generally speaking. I liked that he didn't know that Uganda was a country a few weeks ago, but the Mitchell mixup really missed the mark.

I felt like it was pretty clear on the Mitchell thing he was pushing Gus' buttons and being his usual goofy self. I think the whole thing with being constantly "on" as some has said plays more into Abigail being gone and him dealing with it and his confusion over his feelings for Jules.

I still love this show and so do my kids. It's one of the few I can always count on that is ok for them to watch without being too much. They may not get all the funny meta-references like this weeks Ed Lover shout out or the previous weeks Bob Dobalina mark....but they still think it's funny and a fun show. So that works for me.

Shawn has an eidetic memory and can instantly recall just about anything from any point in his memory, and has demonstrated so thoroughly to the viewer, and perhaps more so with Gus. I'd wager somewhere between 75% and 98% of his dumb act is completely put on, but occasionally, it does seem like they are playing up his laziness and childishness and really doesn't know something that he should know.

But yeah, I'm relatively certain Shawn didn't think Dave was a documentary or based on real events. I personally thought it was a funny bit.

Shade and Harding Prime, I agree as well. I think Shawn in the last several episodes is particularly goofy in part as a response to Abigail's departure and his feelings for Juliet.

Anyway, while this may have been the season I've enjoyed the least so far, there have been some great moments to be sure. I just about always love this show, for a lot of the reasons Harding Prime mentioned about relating to the characters and how they interact/what they reference. I recommend their DVD sets for the commentaries. I don't usually listen to those, but the ones with Hill and Roday, and the ones with them as well as Steve Franks and Andy Berman in particular, are really funny, and seeing how much they enjoy the show and are similar to their characters increases my enjoyment of the program.

I really wish that Hill and Roday would have been in on the commentary for the Reunion show, it was my favorite.

Love the show but the Think Tank episode was my least favorite. It just didn't make sense, I would have perferred another spooky episode like the ones they have around Halloween time.

Thoughts from this week's episode.

-Sharks?

-Guts, Old Ironside, Old Ironstomach. All nice.

-Lassie finally notices something Shawn would have and plays Shawn.

-Detective Dipstick

-White chicks reference.

-Oh look, Jeri Ryan leaves Leverage to come say hi.

-And the season finale of Leverage is name checked.

-Bleh, finding the killer was just an afterthought to the episode. It was all about Lassiter vs Shawn, and Shawn's dad hooking up with Jeri Ryan. They're trying too hard, and it's taken all of the fun out of the show.

I wonder who the death is in Mr. Yin Presents. It kind of looks like Abigail might be one who gets killed. But if not her then I would want it to be Vick.

Thoughts:

-That is the perfect description of Shawn.

-Come on, Shawn, change your iPone ring tone.

-The Yin to the Yang. Cute. And short title sequence. They must be serious this week.

-Jules in the shower... Sublime. And I hope Shawn is right about this. Just because of how interesting it would be. But I bet not.

-Kind of creepy. He is in love with Shawn.

-No! Poor psychotic kid dying.

-Sean Connery. Jimmy Stewart. No, Juliet! I need to see more of you in the shower.

-Oh no, I think cop dude is screwed. Unless he's the killer. Nope, unconscious. Strange the way that works out. Either way, they should have let Shawn pick her up.

-Seriously Shawn, get a new ring tone.

-Has this become The Dark Knight? But Shawn can save them, can't he? He just has to use his brain. Nice, he figured out where Abigail is.

-I'm worried. What the hell is that ending about? I was worried that something might happen to someone at the end. Now, I;m just worried about what the hell is going on.

I hate season breaks!

This was the best episode of the winter season!

Everything had me riveted, and was still funny. I even enjoyed all the Hitchcock segments and shooting styles, and I don't even watch Hitchcock. Too bad about Mary, I though he could have gone well once or twice a season. This is a different type of cliffhanger they have ever left us with.

I was actually scared at some points, AND IT WAS STILL FUNNY!

I need some one to make me a score card about the ending. So was that young Shawn in the picture and what did that mean. How could he not remember that. So I guess that this means there is some type of link with Shawn and Yin/Yang that he doesn't remember or isn't telling.

Yang's head looks like it was pasted/Photoshopped onto the picture. Don't know why Ying would have the picture unless it's the only photo he has of Yang.

I wonder they will reveal that Ying is probably Yang's twin. It would fit the symmetry the writers are doing with story.

The other killer has to be a cast member from the Breakfast Club. I point the finger of accusation at Emilio Estevez.

I got even odds that Yin's Shawn's mom. They even went through the trouble of name dropping that she wasn't in town.

They just did that because Cybil wasn't going to be on the episode, IMO. They do it all the time when a recurring guest star is not in an episode.
