Isn’t that a lovely Andy Kubert cover? You know what’s better than that? Having an Andy Kubert cover with interiors by Mark Bagley. Words from Judd Winick don’t hurt either. And here, in the second installment of the three-part “Long Shadows” arc, we find the newly-minted Batman scrambling to retrieve the Arkham Asylum escapees, while Two-Face begins a ground war of his own. But what’s the Penguin up to? Catch a glimpse below.

BATMAN #689 hits 8/12.

Great preview. Winnick makes good use of Dick being an circus performer and making his Batman different. Enjoy Mark Bagley's art, love the Daily Bugle cameo too

Since Harvey knows who the new Batman is(based on their recent fights) I'm really curious to see how this plays out.

So it looks like coming out before Batman and Robin doesn't help the book. Still hitting riffs from the last issue of B&R in a less poignant way. Maybe we'll stop hearing about how Batman only reads bad because it comes after B&R now.

Maybe Daniel's arc will be better.

I must disagree, I prefer the way 689 seems to have handled Dick's more outgoing nature as Batman.

I was referring to the "I'm a natural performer!" bit being vastly inferior to the speech Alfred gave in B&R 2. Beyond that, I can't draw a direct comparison because B&R has yet to showcase Dick in public. But, I don't like Batman at all, even if this preview reads better then the other ones have.

Cool. Love Bagley's art here. Winick has been working for me as well, and this preview is no exception.

I've been happy with Batman so far and it looks as though I'll be happy with this issue as well

Actually, this is part 2 of 4.

So yeah, I just reread Alfreds speech and that was a lot better.

...

But I still like this >.>

That's a pretty good read. Short summary below:

SPOILERS

Two Face continues his plans and doubles the money paid to recruit teleporter

Dick and Alfred have a short but nice talk (and explain the title 'Long Shadow' for this arc). Dick realizes that someone is leaking info on Penguin's operations and is prepared for it.

Penguin meets with Black Mask and asks for his help. Black Mask assigns his body guard, someone called The Soldier and another certain person to act as 'distractions' for the Penguin.

Batman is on patrol and encounters a building on fire. He manages to put off the fire using foam missiles from Batmobile. But the building is attacked by flying rock boulders. Batman tries to protect the bulding using high powered sonic attack but the Batmobile is eventually hit by rock pillars.

The attackers reveal themselves and it's Clayface and The Soldier

To be continued

Enjoyable issue. I enjoy the Alfred talk, although that's three issues in a row with Alfred talk in it. Bagley's art is awesome as usual. Next week is gonna be all action!

Mod, please change the title for the thread...thanks

just read it as well and im loving this new take on the Dark Knight.
lets face it, this is Dick being Batman not Dick trying to be Bruce and I'm loving it for that reason alone.

Enjoyed this issue a lot, art was great and like Mateus_ds said, this isn't Dick trying to be or imitate Bruce it's Dick being Batman. He's doing all the stuff he used to just in a new costume.

And of coarse Two-Face knowing that's Nightwing and not the original Batman makes this more interesting.

So anybody else take a look at the newspapers that Dent has up on the wall? I got a giggle out of the bottom left paper, "LY BUGLE" "BATMAN: THREAT OR MENACE?"

Love the Daily Bugle cameo :D

By the way, which Clayface is this? Or a whole new one?

I must disagree, I prefer the way 689 seems to have handled Dick's more outgoing nature as Batman.

This is true. It was all about his smiling for the camera ...and one upping Black Canary in abstentia.

I like how Penguin and Two-Face are underestimating him.

I read it a couple nights ago and it was okay. But considering the fact that the arc is half over, nothing much has really happened yet. Hopefully the final two parts of the storyline will really rock and make the wait worthwhile. I think this issue suffers by comparison to Blackest Night: Batman, which was released the same day.

This issue was decent, but there were like two parts that appeared to be grammatically incorrect. I don't remember what was said but it was as if someone messed up, but who knows. I read so much stuff a day, I could've misread it. Oh well, it was a fun read.

I am happy to see where it goes, we've been bombarded with DCu changing canons for the past months and I feel like enough's enough. Let's take a break for a couple of months while Blackest Night is ravaging the rest of the DCu. Let's just sit back and watch Dick becoming someone else by beating the everliving crap out of some old rogues. We just need a couple of well-written arcs and then, when the time's right, sure bring ol' Bruce back or make something big. Just not now.

I like the issue. The Alfred/Dick conversation seemed a bit forced but other than that, good story.

I liked the art for the most part.
