This is very close to Irredeemable. Back in the Silver Age, Superman had to use his powers and ingeniosity to protect his secret identity. Here the Superman analogue protects his crimes. And Hannibal Tabu is wrong, the detective stuff is essential.

i read the buy pile every week, and though i know it is opinion, and though i do make sure to read it every week, tabu is sure wrong about a lot...

the mighty has been awesome thus far, very underrated...

The first 4 issues of Irredeemable almost made me drop the book. I will give the series 6 months before I do that. Issue #5 changes things tho, but this is about The Mighty and I think the series is a lot better than Irredeemable in my eyes. Very underrated indeed

The Mighty is almost infinitely better than Irredeemable is. It's easily one of my favorite titles at the moment and I hope DC lets it run for as long as Tomasi wants to keep doing it. I'm not sure what Tabu was going on about, but the detective work is some of the better stuff in the series because you're always waiting to see Alpha One lurking around the corner in the next panel whenever Cole finds out something new.

Irredeemable, on the other hand, could get cancelled tomorrow and I probably wouldn't miss it. I want to like it and I keep hoping that something major will happen every month, but I'm always let down. It's moving painfully slow and I don't care about any of the characters yet. I'm going to give it another issue or so, then I'm dropping it.
