A Futuristic Robin Hood is Coming

"Robin Hood" will be getting a futuristic makeover courtesy of the producers of The Dark Knight and 300 as well as Warner Bros., where a new take on the classic tale has been set up, says the Risky Biz Blog.

Atlas Entertainment and Hollywood Gang will produce the untitled saga, while commercials director Nicolai Fuglsig, who pitched the project, has signed on to direct. Jason Hall will write the screenplay.

Few plot details have been revealed about the new Robin Hood, but it will be set in a dystopian London and center on a band of thieves whose activities restore hope to the city's embattled population. Producers describe it as "a futuristic action adventure” that will be "both inspired by and pay homage to the legend of Robin Hood."

Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will produce via their Atlas banner, while Gianni Nunnari will produce via his Hollywood Gang shingle. Craig Flores of Hollywood Gang will executive produce.

Why on Earth would you promise a remake that's not really a remake??

WB: please make a Green Arrow movie instead if you want some "modern" Robin Hood.

Eh. Hardly a big deal, modernised versions have been done before.

Different takes on Shakespeare on screen haven't been that bad, I think. It's not about the concept, it's about the execution.

I've generally found the modern-set versions of Shakespeare (and other literary classics) to be pretty hard to take. But given that Robin Hood so easily lends itself to action over deep character, I doubt this will suffer much from the update, per se. (Obviously if it's a crap script and the director is a hack, it's in trouble regardless of the setting.)

Has everyone already forgotten V for Vendetta?

It's a good bet the people who came up with the idea for this haven't forgotten it.

See, now if they made constant references like that about being aware that this was the future, that would be awesome.
