I read some ultimate titles a couple of years ago, got into the Spiderman one some and the ultimates, but I was kinda thinking about giving some DC titles a shot. Batman is my favorite character from my youth, so I think Ill read his, but I did hear Dick Grayson is playing batman right now Ithink.

He's not "playing" Batman. He's the goddam Batman. There are a bevy of Bat titles out there right now, and they all deal with Dick-man, so the stories are pretty much self contained. :)

You know, if he hasn't been into comics for a while, he might not get the "G-D Batman" reference and it would just come off rude.
To explain, in the recent All-Star Batman mini-series, the writer had Batman refer to himself as "I'm the G-D Batman!", and it caught on here on the message boards.

You could still read some of the older Batman stories collected in trade paperback, though. The Dark Knight Returns is pretty cool, though non-canon. The Killing Joke is great, and I personally enjoyed Rules of Engagement.
You should definitely check out Green Lantern. It's really popular these days, for good reason. Rebirth and Sinestro Corps War are both great storylines that you can get in trade paperback, and then you can start reading the current GL stuff, which deals with the Blackest Night event.

Wonder Woman-because it's good and deserves more readers.
Secret Six-because it's awesome and deserves more readers.
And they're both written by Gail Simone.

Both of these titles are excellent. Wonder Woman has SPOILER FOR #33 SPOILER NOT KIDDING MEAG SPOILER SPOILER left the Amazons because of the bullshit from the Gods, and is now on her own, and Secret Six is about a hilarious ragtag team of villains doing whatever they can to stuff their purse or wallet. Both have amazing art by Aaron Lopresti/Brady Ryan & Nicola Scott/Doug Hazlewood.
