Dirty Deeds!

"Dirty Deeds" is a series of threads where a discussion can be held about the morally questionable, or outright evil acts of characters in comics. It might be a discussion about times a hero crossed a moral line they shouldn't have, or a discussion of a villain's most horrific acts in their history, but the premise remains the same.

Where possible, a poll will be included to vote upon said character's "dirtiest deed".

Please do remember that there are no wrong answers, this is all a matter of opinion. Since everyone has a different set of morals, please try and respect differences in people's own beliefs.

Dirty Deeds number seventy-eight is upon us, and we’re going to take a look at a guy who debuted in the 1990s with a fanatical display of power that had jaws dropping! And since then… well… consistency counts. But still, he’s shown himself to be quite a formidable #2 guy, who’s not so good at making the jump to leading himself. I’m speaking, of course, about…

So what is Exodus’ "Dirtiest Deed"??

- Abandoning Eobar Garrington, the medieval Black Knight, while questing for the domain of the “Eternal Pharoah”? (revealed in Black Knight: Exodus #1)

- Turning on Apocalypse, after he had helped unlock his hidden mutant powers? (revealed in Black Knight: Exodus #1)

- Allowing the Acolytes to slaughter a hospital full of humans after joining them? (X-Factor (vol. 1) #92)

- Attempting to recruit Phantazia to the Acolytes, declaring Toad and Blob “unworthy” and Pyro as “tainted” for having the Legacy Virus, and denying them membership? (X-Men Unlimited (vol. 1) #2)

- Slaughtering scores human Genoshans, using his powers to reduce them to but skeletons during “Bloodties”? (X-Men (vol. 2) #26)

- Assaulting both War Machine and Sersi over the skies of Genosha? (Avengers West Coast #101)

- Murdering Fabian Cortez, who was holding Magneto’s granddaughter hostage? (Uncanny X-Men #307)

- Creating a telekinetic shield around Genosha to prevent international aid from arriving? (Avengers (vol. 1) #369)

- Wounding Quicksilver, and nearly killing him, before departing Genosha? (Avengers (vol. 1) #369)

- Calling a witch hunt trial against Neophyte for being a traitor to the Acolytes? (Uncanny X-Men #315)

- Blowing up Bova’s cottage on Wundagore Mountain? (Avengers (vol. 1) #381)

- After taking the frozen form of Holocaust from space, carelessly and wildly fighting a battle against him on Avalon to an extent that it damaged the station, and caused it to crash to Earth? (X-Men (vol. 2) #42-43)

- Attacking Cable and X-Man in the Swiss Alps? (Cable (vol. 2) #30, X-Man #14)

- Torturing Amelia Voght while attempting to determine of Joseph was really Magneto or not? (Magneto (vol. 1) #2)

- Attacking Jospeh after he kissed Amelia Voght upon his arrival at Avalon? (Magneto (vol. 1) #3)

- Attacking Wundagore Mountain, in an attempt to kill Magneto’s human granddaughter, Luna, deeming her a blasphemous mark on Magneto’s legacy as a mutant? (Quicksilver #1)

- Hiring a team of Legacy Virus infected mercenaries to kidnap and torture the Knights of Wundagore, falsely promising them a cure for their condition for their cooperation, and then abandoning them in the Savage Land upon their failure? (Quicksilver #6-9)

- Again laying Siege to the High Evolutionary and Wundagore Mountain while trying to acquire Isotope E? (Quicksilver #11-12)

- Forming his own Brotherhood of Mutants and attacking Liberty Hall in Philadelphia? (X-Men (vol. 2) #161)

- Leading his Brotherhood of Mutants to attack the Xavier Institute? (X-Men (vol. 2) #162-164)

- Attacking the SHIELD Helicarrier to gain information about the Decimation? (X-Men Annual (vol. 3) #1)

- Allying himself with Mr. Sinister, and breaking into the Xavier Mansion to kill Blindfold and steal Destiny’s Diaries? (X-Men (vol. 2) #201-204)

- Attempting to help Mr. Sinister and the Marauders acquire the new mutant birth to determine how it overcame the Decimation? (X-Men (vol. 2) #205, 207, New X-Men (vol. 2) #44, 46)

- Kidnapping Charles Xavier after he’d been shot in the head, choosing to repair his mind and memories in a manner that would hopefully lead him into becoming the Acolytes’ new leader? (X-Men: Legacy #208-210)

- Using his telekinetic abilities to assault his one-time leader, Magneto, while he was depowered? (X-Men: Legacy #210)

He’s been a medieval Crusader, defied Apocalypse, and even taken command of the Acolytes! Now, vote for what you think is the worst of Exodus’ “Dirty Deeds”!

I've always pictured his voice as a cross between Tim Curry as Skullmaster and Tony Jay as Megabyte.

So imo yes. VERY yes. He's definitely of the "Base wretch! Prepare yourself to be dispatched by the immeasurable power at my command!" school of villainy, like Dr Doom and Magneto

He did totally pwn famous comic book Jew, Kitty Pryde, telepathically during his attack on the mansion in "Blinded by the Light", which was quite a bit of "not kosher". I recall a panel where he left her partially phased both in, and out of a wall while interrogating her. Even with the Ramos art, Kitty was visibly gritting her teeth in pain.

So go with that.

HIs dirtiest deed is being an open racist.

I like how his career as a Crusader during the Dark Ages gave him the training he needed to go on raids to slaughter hospitals full of people, and set up plans to siege mountain fortresses and bust in to murder children.

Truer portrayal history.

Why is the Acolyte hospital massacre is on this list, let alone winning? It happened in the 1st part of Fatal Atttractions, Exodus doesn't even meet the Acolytes until the 3rd part, in UXM #304. Everyone who voted for it is wrong.

He did actually drop out of the crusades because he was disgusted by the "slaughter of innocents", more so than his then-buddy the Black Knight, it seems.

Exodus is an ends-justifies-the-means fanatic, but he shouldn't be evil-for-evil's-sake, which is why I'm voting for "other", in the form of "standing by while Dark Tom tortured and maimed Fish Sammy to death.

Uh, no, you'd be wrong. He was a member already, and he shows up in X-Force (vol. 1) #25 as one to pick up the former New Mutants to take them to Avalon, as well, before he ever turns up in UXM #304.

So he was a member, and he sat back and let them do it, without joining in. Which, the voters here seem to think is worthy of a vote.

Me, though? I think going after Luna is worst. I mean, it's murdering somebody's kid for being a "blemish" on Magneto's legacy. That's just messed up.

No, he first shows up in X-Factor #92 for all of 2 pages, briefly observing X-Factor, and it's all "who is that guy?".

In X-Force #25, we see he's recruiting people for Magneto, and appears to be starting with the former New Mutants taught by Magneto. His failed attempt to recruit Phantazia, as told in X-Men Unlimited #2, presumably happens somewhen around then, too.

After that comes UXM #304 where he goes to the Acolytes and recruits them, so he can lead them to Avalon, and he tells them how Cortez tried to kill Magneto. Cortez gets all angry that the group is taking the word of some guy who just showed up over their leader. Not only is there no indication he'd ever been part of the group before, but it's explicit that he'd just showed up and met them right there and then. Blaming him for not stopping the hospital massacre is like blaming Magneto or Colossus for not stopping it.

Me, though? I think going after Luna is worst. I mean, it's murdering somebody's kid for being a "blemish" on Magneto's legacy. That's just messed up.

Some writer really ought to get inside his head about what he was thinking with that, since he had a whole double-sized issue in which to do the deed if he really wanted to, and he sure made a lot of noise about killing her for the good of the cause, but instead he just holds on to her until the X-Men and Avengers manage to knock him down for all of a minute so they can rescue her.

It's not like you can tell what race War Machine is if you don't already know, any more than anyone could tell whenever someone replaced Stark as Iron Man, so that was clearly meant to be "because he was human".

So you just admitted that Exodus was on scene at the hospital massacre in X-Factor (vol. 1) #92.

Are we debating that point any further? I mean, I'm not saying he actually did anything, except bear witness.

As far as why he didn't just kill Luna? Exodus is a relic from a bygone age, where the children of nobility were usually kept alive as bargaining chips, rather than just killed. If he was going to clean Magnus' blemish, it would've been after he was well and clear of battle, I'd guess.

At least, that makes the most sense of that to me. Otherwise, he's just some evil wanker monologuing.

No, we keep going until you guys look at the comic and concede wrongness. All I said was "he appeared on 2 pages of that issue".

He wasn't on-scene for the hospital massacre, and doesn't show up until a later scene. X-Factor arrive at the hospital after the massacre, then go back to their base and interrogate Spoor, then head out for the Acolytes' next target, a Sentinel base. Exodus is first seen encountering X-Factor on their flight to the Sentinel base.

And UXM #304 is very explicit that he just showed up and met the Acolytes less than five minutes before page 1 of that issue.

Now sure, someone could one day write something that reveals he was hovering over the hospital, sitting in mid-air eating popcorn while watching humans die, but from what was written and published at the time, there's nothing that would suggest he was there, and it's flat-out stated he meets the Acolytes for the first time in UXM #304.

Regardless of more...underwhelming...subsequent portrayals, Bloodties portrays him as capable of taking down the vast majority of the X-Men and Avengers at once, without working up a sweat. When they finally do take him down, he's back on his feet in seconds.

Now it's later revealed that he dropped out of the crusades specifically because of the slaughter of innocents, and here we have him following a cause which demands the death of a baby (the Acolytes had already marked Luna for death back in 1992's Avengers #350), and given the opportunity to do so at his leisure, he instead makes a lot of big talk about doing so, but never gets around to it, and keeps fighting until the matter (and baby) is taken out of his hands. And then, despite probably being capable of fighting a few more rounds, or just melting Luna's brain with his mental powers, he leaves.

There's something to work with there, that offers potential for more depth than "baby-killing eeeeevil", yes?
