The art was the main reason I never tried out Red Robin so I'll try out a few issues now that that obstacle is out of the way, too bad about Azrael.

Thank. God. This sudden height and muscle mass that was thrown on Tim was driving me crazy.

My sentiments exactly (minus any gratitude towards deities). This looks a lot better imo.

I like the shirt tails... very robin hood. Haha.
He looks pretty badass in that shot.

Y'know, up until recently I actually thought that Tim was wearing one of those "John-Wesley-Shipp-as-The Flash" muscle suits to improve his disguise.
But it was just bad art.
If this guy stays on the book I might start picking it up again.

Man, I'm digging this. And yeah Tim's finally looking his age. I didn't think Bach's pencils complimented Yost at all. I'm looking forward to seeing how this works out! Glad DC made the change.

What was truly ridiculous was the second issue cover showing him in both Robin costumes but strangely bigger in the Red Robin outfit

I always thought it was just a more heavily armored suit. After all, Bachs always drew him slimmer out of the suit than in it. In fact for continuity's sake that's going to be my explanation for the change to myself, that he improved his costume's body armor so that it fits better, the same way Dick and Alfred are currently making improvements to the batsuit in Batman.

His arms are more muscular and both his arms and legs are longer.

It's no doubt better drawn, and more of a realistic Tim. But the Costume looks a bit better on someone fairly Tall IMO. Looks good though.

Looks nice.
I figured Bachs was gonna pull double duty here (he's on the new Azrael series, right?) but I guess not. And apparently, that's a good thing for RED ROBIN....

Man, when is this coming out? Seems that the bat-titles are all slipping. Or I am feeling the effects of bat-deprivation, either way.

Actually, most of them by far haven't been delayed at all from he original solicitation schedule. Only Batman and Robin 3 has been delayed, and only three weeks, not a whole month, so it isn't effecting issue 4's release at all. Baman Confidential 32 came out yesterday, and Red Robin 3 and Batman 689 are coming out next week, as well as Blackest Night: Batman 1 and Booster Gold 23, which crosses over with the current Gotham status quo of Dick replacing Bruce. In two weeks Batgirl 1, Batman: Streets of Gotham 3, the Outsiders 21 (starting an arc where they are capturing/tracking escaped inmates from Arkham, going after classic Bat-villains like Mr. Freeze), and Superman/Batman 63. The last week of August has the delayed Batman and Robin 3, the first issue of the new Kevin Smith-penned Batman mini series, Detective Comices 856 and Gotham City Sirens 3.

Shouldn't he be an adult by now? I mean he was 16 in Knightfall and wasn't that like 10 years ago in comic time?

Seems like it, but I read an interview a couple of months ago with Chris Yost and Ramon Bachs and they both agreed that he was 17, so I'm willing to accept that.

Actually, he wasn't 16 in Knightfall. Knightfall was right after Robin's solo ongoing began, and he was not 16 at that point. In the first couple Robin issues they mention Tim wouldn't be old enough for a driver's license if he weren't in the position of having to drive for his disabled father. He had his sixteenth birthday on panel in Robin 116, after No Man's Land, and many years after Knightfall in real time. It was only 6 years ago real time. Either way, Tim has only been Robin for 4+ years in comics time, having begun his career at 13 and now being somewhere between 17 and 18. And rightly so, it has been less than 20 years in real time that Tim has been Robin, and Batman's career has only been 15 years in the current DC time line, so there is no way Tim has been active for a decade as Robin.

Yes, he is going to do the new Azrael but no, he's not going to pull double duty.

The fact that Bachs is getting assigned for another monthlie after such a bad job in Red Robin really annoys me. DC should have higher standards.

With To announced as the ongoing artist, you are correct, however, for one month he is pulling double duty. The month of October has him listed as the artist for both Red Robin 5 and Azrael 1, Red Robin coming out the week before Azrael.

I remember that issue. Didn't it specify an exact age? I vaguely remember it saying that he got his license a year earlier than he should have because of his dad.
Best comic news all week for me.
I'm loving RR now despite the so-so art.
THIS though. Oh my god, I hope this new artist is on the series as long as possible. I love that cover of Tim. It's gorgous.
I think the art looks like an improvement. Probably still not picking up the book though, sorry.

Any particular reason? Just don't like Tim Drake or ...?
Not a big fan of the character. I don't *dislike* him either, he's just kind of bland to me.
The premise (of looking for Bruce Wayne) would've been interesting enough to pull me in nonetheless, if I actually believed that this series would be the one that'd find him. In my old age I'm getting sadly cynical though, and think that this series will be just like the new Moon Knight series, where he's set up to want to take Norman Osborn down and never actually succeed at it; instead a big crossover will come someday where Captain America, Iron Man and Thor can team up to take Osborn down. Similarly, I think Tim's going to have his own "Gilligan's Island" comic here to keep him treading water for a year, and then Morrison will bring Bruce back in B&R without any heed to what's happened in this book.

I had to check myself, and while it is a totally reasonable assumption to make from the text that Tim would be 15, it isn't confirmed in the text of the issue. Tim got his driver's license in Detective Comics # 668, the issue that leads into Robin # 1, and the issue where Tim witnessed Jean Paul Valley go over the edge and realizes they need Bruce back as Batman. When he gets his drivers license in the mail Mrs. MacIlvane, his houskeeper, asks Tim how he can have a drivers license when he isn't 16, and he explains that his father signed a waiver due to his father's handicap, but no age or specific amount of time the license is early is specified.

Have read either of the issues? I was apprehensive for the exact same reasons and it's in my top 3 batman books now. went and checked out Enders Game because it was Yost and am waiting for next in that series in September now.
I've flipped through #1 and #2. No big fall in love; middling material for my tastes.
I don't have anything bad to comment on the art,although I am a fan of dark,noir art(having a library of Frank Miller's book will explain that:biggrin: )
The art is pretty clean,no problem with that. What's important is the story.
Didn't notice much different in the Red Robin physical difference,it seems like they removed some of the muscle tone(to make him more lanky and flexible I guess)
If I didn't know he was 17 I would probably would have guessed he was in his early 20s.

IMO, his art is awesome and a much better fit for Tim Drake. It may look a bit too cartoonish sometimes, but it still is sleek.

Close to the bottom of the board is the thread on this news (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=281398) from last week. Can we get this merged?
I agree, Bachs isn't my favorite, but he is an okay artist, but his style wasn't clicking with the story in Red Robin for me either. While I'm not terribly familiar with To's work, what they've shown us so far looks great.

This is probably a good thing, although I don't think bachs artwork was all that bad. It did seem a bit rushed though. Just little things would bother me, like his muscle mass on some pages or the way he would have shirt tails on one page and not have them on the next, back and forth. It happens a lot in issue #1, and once or twice in #2.
