View Full Version : Hey, Howie: you still looking for obscure AM radio hits from the late 60s/early 70s?

I remember a while ago, you were looking for music of this type.

I've found one you might find interesting: hippie era sunshine pop at its purest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwjuKhBIIIQ).

Buried Alien (The Fastest Post Alive!)

Holy crap. I had the basic tune of that stuck in my head the other day, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was.

Thank you.

Thank you.I'm not thanking him (no offense Buried Alien): never could stand this song ever since I used to hear it 10 times a day as a kid when it was a hit. One of those annoyingly catchy ditties that keeps playing itself over and over in your brain even though you hate every second of it.

I keep thinking that song is by Chicago, but I'm probably mixing it up with "Saturdays in the Park".

Both songs are awesomely bad.

Man, I remember this song. I hadn't thought of it in years.

Getting to SEE and hear it is a real trip!

How about this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRFZUB3NzGs) or this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txBaQs0uzJA)?!?

Both songs are awesomely bad.I don't mind Saturday in the Park nearly as much. Not one of Chicago's best songs ("what, they had some good ones?") but nowhere near as irritating as Beautiful Sunday.

Those are some frightening mustaches.

Indeed. There were no fashions like the 70's, and we can all be glad of that!

"I'd Really Love to See You Tonight" is absolutely one of my guilty little pleasures.

"I'd Really Love to See You Tonight" is absolutely one of my guilty little pleasures.

Mine too, along with Pablo Cruise's "Love Will Find a Way"

I apologize for being so negative earlier, and to make up for it I'm gonna post some youtube links to some great and I think often forgotten songs of the era. Number 1: Michel Pagliaro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHi3nwKTEzM&feature=related)

Now, some Les Emmerson:

Now my son: another Les Emmerson:Cry Your Eyes Out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3b4YUGY9rqY&feature=related)

Listen to the bass on these two songs - how it almost does something approaching a counterpoint to the vocal melody. That's one of the things I love about early 70s pop music.

Keep 'em comin', guys. That playlist is only six hours long; a couple more hours'd be fine.

OK, now I realize howyadoin probably knows most of these songs, but I'm on a roll. Here's some Stampeders: Minstrel Gypsy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SWOXocrxJc).

Here's the original thread, by the way:

Have I really been workin' on this for 4 years?

Have I really been workin' on this for 4 years?Maybe some mod-type person can consolidate them.

But now for some James Leroy and Denim: Just a Touch of Magic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UJT5BPgASQ).

It's so amazing that you can find this stuff on youtube.

I couldn't seem to uncover a good video with good sound for this one, but here's the best I could find for this great song from the Five Man Electrical Band: Your're Absolutely Right (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJUReTLNNYA)

I think I've posted this one before, and it isn't even a very good version, but it's still the only decent one I can find: Chris Hennessey doing Her Father Didn't Like Me Anyway (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF0ztWsTRI8).

I knew there was at least one more James Leroy song to share: Make It All Worthwhile (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vVvcoay1bA&feature=PlayList&p=481F725FAC1E1A5C&index=43&playnext=2&playnext_from=PL). Love the interplay between his voice and his steel guitar.

You should revive the original thread with an updated list.

Also, despite being a Beatles song from a classic album, "Good Day Sunshine" reminds me of 70s AM radio.
