My fingers are crossed for an appearance by Captain Carrot. Last we saw him, he was camping out in Zatanna's hat.

But everything may have reverted back when it was over.

I want Peter Nguyen to draw it. He has a thread in the Artist and Writer Showcase forum that has frankly beautiful pages of a Zatanna/Clayface fight.

RECOGNIZE THE AWSOME!

I think a Zatanna ongoing would be better with Bruce still around.... just saying I'd really like to see that relationship explored....

Dini can do no wrong with the character, so everyone please buy it when it's solicited. :)

Not sure why no one read the first reply. It was revealed back in the spring that Dini was writing the book.

Paul Dini really really "gets" Zee. This will be an instant buy for me.

I will definitely be looking forward to this series, but I'm curious as to how Paul Dini's going to build it, ie what are her weaknesses, besides Bruce who is she friends with, what city/realm is this series going to take place in, etc.

I'll definitely check this out but would prefer it to be in the Vertigo line instead of the DCU but I'll not complain past that.

Is there any new news on this? It's been two months and no solicits. :(

Or is this supposed to come out next year?

Maybe people suspect that it's going to be one of those ongoing series that will get cancelled after ten issues.

Like Magog? And Power Girl? And Doom Patrol reboot? I agree.

How dare you. Unlike some "capitalization on a once-popular mini" or "another Super member", Zatanna actually has potential to stay.

I would buy it in a heartbeat, but I think we have to realize that nothing that wasn't hot in the 1960s, has ever become hot for a great length of time. I don't know why it is, but Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern are the only longtime sellers. The same is true at Marvel (with Wolverine being the exception). It's really too bad because I'd like to see some new stuff become hot.

(On that note, was Sandman, a Vertigo book, a big seller as a monthly? I gather that Vertigo books as a rule don't sell as well as the regular line. At any rate, Sandman has earned its place in history by being a huge seller in the trade paperback (and hardback) format.)

Sandman was the biggest selling DC book at the time, yeah.

But new books *can* succeed, they just have to be really, really good. Look at Runaways - until Whedon and Moore slaughtered it, it was a completely new book with a fairly unknown writer and a brand new artist, but it succeeded.

Is'nt Sandman the proof that new series can success?

It's exteremly rare though, Sandman is top quality, but I think Luck was player as well.

I'd like to see a link to back that up. My recollection is that Sandman, once it became cool, always hovered near the middle of the Top 100. The only single issue that really sold exceptionally well was the final one.

Hey, hey, hey.

NEVER compare Power Girl to fricken Magog (Mr. Terrific should have gotten a title)! She's got some ways to go before she gets cancelled.

And I'll give her more than a year, which is more than I can say about Magog, Doom Patrol, Red Tornado, the Red Circle titles as a whole, REBELS (looks down in shame towards the comic book community), and more.

So I would compare PG to Zatanna, in a sense that she would last longer than a year, until the fans circle the wagon and repeat the current Superhero genre stable: Nobody lasts longer than 50/100 issues when you're B-list or lower and don't have connections to the current continuity or to an A-list character (like being Superboy/girl or Robin/Nightwing/Batgirl. Literally, not in the PG/Red Robin/Arazel way.)

It sucks because, unlike some of you in this thread, I like giving chances to characters like PG or Zee when they get titles. Remember, Secret Six was a new title (which was backed up by two minis, but still).

See!

Returning/New readers of DC that wouldn't if someone like Zee didn't have a title.

And isn't that a big part of what matters in this current comic book market?

maybe the off returning readers, but i don't see a title called "zatanna" bringing in many new readers into DC at all... she doesn't have the star power or recognition to really bring a non-comic fan in.

it would be a good niche book, though.

At this point, a little experimentation would do some good in the market.

But some of those sub 20,000 comics need to go before a comic like this hits the market.

A little clearing of the saturation. Less comics, more concentration of money/title buys.

Personally I think this is the perfect character to feature in one of the back-ups. As much as I like her myself, she just couldn't support a regular title for very long.

That's my point. Unless you are a Superman book, a Batman book, a Flash book, a Green Lantern Book or a Wonder Woman book (and maybe not even that), you don't have star power or recognition.

Heck, even if you DO have that you may not succeed. Look at Marvel's Blade -- it had a successful movie, but Marvel was never able to translate that into a successful comic book character.
