I just recently beat this game, and I must say. I'm impressed. This video game is my second favorite ever. I ended up getting the "In Water" ending, which I don't really mind. It was freakin sad, but its also the cannon ending, so getting it on my first play through is cool with me. This game was nothing short of spectacular, and it was freaking terrifying. Jumping down all those holes just kept building up all kinds of dread in me.
For everyone else who's played this, what did you think of it?

I liked it, but i'm a SH whore. Not my favorite because you have have to be in the right mood/frame of mind to play it...but that's part of its charm. Once you are in that perfect mood, the game becomes an immersive experience that draws you in mentally and emotionally. The corridor run near the end is pretty creepy (where you hear James' last conversation with his wife).

I didn't want to play it unless it was late at night and I was completely in the mood for it. That's only because I wanted to experience he game at its best though.
I was creeped out at how the Pyramid Heads impaled themselves at the end too. It was creepy how they where just standing there while you figured out your next puzzle.
And yes, the corridor run to the end was pretty unsettling too. Although, since the "in water" ending was the cannon one, does that mean Laura dies in Silent Hill or something?

Short answer: Not necessarily. Long answer: The little girl's fate is only directly addressed in the "Leave" ending. That's one of two scenarios that actually lets you leave the town.
This is my favorite of the franchise because it was the only time I felt that the creepy atmosphere, gameplay, puzzles and the characters all contributed to an emotional payoff at the climax of the story where you find out the contents of your wife's message in the hotel room.

I loved the final part of the game, partly because of how much I like that kind of weather.

Best game in the series. Though 3 is up there for me as well, part 2 everything came together better.

Silent Hill is a scary game to me. Most of the kids played and get afraid of this game. Thank you very much.

Never beat this game but I must say my available time these days is limited. Sounds like a worthwhile game to finally finish off. I'll have to get busy!

Actually ALL the endings are "Canon" as far as the people who made the game are concerned. There's no definitive ending to any of the games, except Silent Hill 1 as Harry Mason and Heather's presence in SH3 means they must have gotten out alive

From what I heard, there was something in Silent Hill 4 saying that James went into Silent Hill and was never seen again.

Great game. Its the atmosphere that really makes it memorable. The score and sound editing in the game is incredible. One level had some really creepy dripping water in the background that still haunts me.

Not quite. If I remember correctly, the main character's apartment manager was named Mr. Sutherland and it was mentioned that he had a son who disappeared a few years ago.

I really think mentioning that James was missing was just a way of keeping his fate ambiguous, rather than canonising the "In Water" ending.

I play SH1 to SH5 at all,SH 2 is the most impressed in my mind ,why?
1.the music. The opening theme music is the most beautiful in all SH series, the Guitar make me feeling ineffable.
2.the man.James is a great personality person, look after his wife or not,he is hesitate.
3.the story.Harry in SH1 is dead, that make me very sad,and James can ues Pyramid Head`s weapon,it is funny and indicate something(similar with SH5 ending)
so I think SH2 is Best
