View Full Version : Do Backup Features Ever Get Included In TPBs?

I haven't ever seen any trade paperbacks that included a backup feature, but then the only TPB I have that originally came with a backup feature are my 52 TPBs, and all the History of the DCU and Secret Origins stuff is available on the DC website.
So does anyone know if, for example, when the recent Batwoman Detective Comics stuff with the Question backup eventually gets collected, the Question backups will be included?
Or else will any of the backups get their own collections?

I read somewhere that the 52 backups are going to be collected seperately. The other backups will probably get the same treatment if there's the demand.
There are some TPBs already out there though. The Archie Goodwin Manhunter backups are collected, as are some Superman backups (something to do with his children IIRC)

The Huntress backups from Wonder Woman were also collected. Unlike the Wonder Woman main feature in those issues.

I figure this current wave of backups will be traded eventually (wish I could say that certainty exists with the 52 and Countdown backups).
QUESTION's gotta be collected, since I think Rucka and Williams' DETECTIVE is considered the highest profile series with a backup series.
There's a line of MANHUNTER trades, so I reckon Vol. 6 will come out when there's enough backups ready.
The last 2 or 3 issues of BLUE BEETLE are actually uncollected, so those plus a few of those backups will probably result in a TPB (sooner than most I think).
CAPT. ATOM, RAVAGER, and any others I forgot.........maybe, maybe not.
Then again, DC's trade department is kinda slow (like, REALLY slow) so I'm not holding out much hope for most of these to be honest...

Recently, the Dr. 13 backups from "Tales.." were reprinted separatey. And the co-features in "Countdown to Mystery" were also traded separately, if that's any indication.

I think back-up stories get collected in a separate TPB. I'm not 100% sure though

I would think it would also depend on how long any particular back up runs. If it's decided that the Blue Beetle or the Question (unlikely) doesn't seem to be working and gets canceled after the first arc, I doubt it would get collected. 4 issues of 8 pages isn't enough for a TPB.
And obviously there's not enough demand for a TPB if it can't even stay alive as a back up.

I hope they get collected separately because I want to get the LSH back-ups in Adventure Comics, but I don't want to have to pay for the Superboy stories. I am willing to wait longer if I have to in order to get enough stories to fill a TPB.

Capt. Atom probably will as its important to New Krypton.
