Fact: The X-Men during their Australian era were one of the more interesting incarnations of the team. Following their secret resurrection by Roma, the X-Men decided to shift their base to the Australian Outback. During this period of time, the members were believed dead and they could not be detected by electronic devices. When the X-Men were attacked by the cyborg Reavers, Psylocke made the team (Havok, Colossus and Dazzler) pass through the mystic Siege Perilous to escape, ending this incarnation of the X-Men. Although the team was only together for 21 issues, the sheer awesomeness of this team is still recognized today.

The Austrailian X-Men were: Storm, Havok, Wolverine, Dazzler, Rogue, Psylocke, Colossus, and Longshot

This era of X-Men brought us some awesome villians and moments: The Reavers, Lady Deathstrike, Gateway, Rogue's internal struggle with Ms. Marvel's personality, the death of Senator Kelly's wife, and the introduction of the island of Genosha and the glorious art of Jim Lee.

It also brought us some debatable moments: Longshot, the introduction of Jubilee,Nanny and the Orphan-Maker and the deaging of Storm and Rob Liefeld guest pencils.

If you could recreate the Outback team in modern continuity, who would be on your team? Here are the rules: The team must have at least 8 members. You must use at least 4 of the original members of The Australian Outback team. And that's it! Who makes your team?

Okay, so I basically took some New Warriors, the current space guys and some other characters who tend to walk a fine line and placed them under a leader who's not afraid of going rogue (pun intended). Wondra was elevated to deputy leader just to see how she deals with it. After the Warriors came apart, it seems likely she'd question her capability and even moreso when she's helping lead an actual X-Men team.

Edit: Oops, didn't read all the rules. So, I must have four from the original Outback era, huh. I'm guessing Jubilee doesn't count because she was just kind of hiding under their base. So, I guess it'll have to be:

Rogue- Australia does good things for her, past and present. Give her the chaps and motorcycle and let her lead a real team; Rogue's no babysitter, girl's gotta have fun.
Havok- The guy was in space, held in a Shi'ar prison, and what happens next, well if he returns, the guy needs a great escape. What could be better than Australia? He needs his jogging shorts too, he and Dazzler need to catch up.
Dazzler- The girl hasn't caught any breaks and she really shone in Australia. She won't have a man holding her down and she and Havok can jog again. She can be a sensation in Australia instead too.
Psylocke- I wanna see her, Dazzler, and Rogue go on a shopping spree again, plus Psylocke was more mature in Australia, she was sexy and smart, we need that back in Betsy. It's that or wallpaper in Uncanny...
Gateway- The team's resident teleporter, and best of all, no Pixie (she wouldn't fit in with the mature X-men anyways). The guy's unpredictable, can't speak and is not dead, a great way to bring him back. I wouldn't necessarily see him fighting, but still, he comes in handy when needed.
Warpath- Outside of X-Force, he's basically wallpaper, only appeared in a couple Brubaker stories as well, the desert seems right for him. He loves nature, and in space, missed the wind, it would just be good for him. He can roam the Outback. The team powerhouse.
Boom-Boom- Who needs Jubilee when you got this gal around. I could see her and Dazzler getting along.

- Cannonball (Rogue-Iceman-Cannonball must be reuinited!)
- Illyana (the team's teleporter and reunited with her brother)
- Colossus (so he can draw Betsy again :) )
- Jubilee (still powerless but using tech to create exploding sparks :p)

Guest starring:
Dazzler and Northstar as both decided to move to Sydney due to carreer/professional reasons and ocassionally visits the X-men (vice versa).

Even Dazz was at the least annoying I've ever seen her (with the best costume to boot) in the Outback, and she kept Rogue on her toes. Except Maddie would have to be there, that's not open for debate. So I guess...

I'm working on assembling a full team of New Mutants myself. Magma, Magik, Warlock, and Wolfsbane down. Cannonball too if you count his purple outfit, although if I ever see a custom in the classic bumblebee outfit I'll probably try to snag that.

why do people hate longshot so much? he was a great character and his limited series was the shit with ancient mythology references and art adams pencils(before he got cartoony). claremont just stuck him in the background for most of the run after the brood storyline. dude was the template for gambit and he brought us spiral and mojo!! come on, spiral damn near singlehandedly took out the whole team in san fransisco, and mortally wounded nightcrawler and colossus during the sisterhood story. longshot has always been overlooked and he needs to be in the spotlight more. he's been bouncing around x-factor lately though

i read maybe half of dazzler's original run they used to be in the comics bin at half price books back in the 90s when i was little (great place to get back issues!!!!) and it was good until she got that awful flashdance costume and boned the beonder. no wonder the series got cancelled.....

Gateway - He was a great character, in my opinion. Creepy, kind, and truly awesome.
Storm- Natural leader with incredible powers that she is NOT afraid of. 'Nuff said.
Rogue- Because any team with Rogue on it gets a little bit better.
Shadowcat- BRING HER BACK FROM THAT STUPID BULLET NOW! *pounds table*
Dazzler- Dazzler is fun.
Gambit- More Romy please.
Archangel- It would bring him out of the background and expand his personality. And I like him.
White Queen- She's too good for Scott. And every team needs a telepath, or someone with impenetrable skin. And she's got both.
Firestar- She and Kitty could gang up on Emma
Magneto- The team needs more boys. And his power would be very useful.
