I am looking for words (and phrases) used (mainly in the 50's and early 60's) in Silver Age comics.

For example:
Gee golly
Clam up (shut up)
Stuffy
someone must be wise to me
what in blazes
gangway…I’m coming through
lily livered cowards
the commies
I’m going to paste you in that smug face
Sinister
Scram
Bookworm

Outdated words that would have fit the era.

I appreciate all of the help you all have given me.

There're plenty of character specific taglines too. "Great Hera!" "Great Rao!" "Great Ceasar's Ghost" "Sufferin Shad!" "By Ormuzd!" and so on.

The funny thing about that is that if it was "fellas", it might work. It's like the writers were trying to be colloquial, but didn't have the heart to butcher the spelling the way they needed to.

I think my favourite silver age line is from the Teen Titans issue which butchered "A christmas carol", spoken by Garth
"Howling wolfish, what a whacko twist!"

Even by silver age standards, that's just insane.

In the quaint old days, "boner" simply meant an error.

If only they'd known:tongue: Not even going to get started on Joker planning to "Force Batman into a boner". Or the headline "Stung by his boner Joker lashes back!"
