View Full Version : Will we see Darkseid again and if so, when?

Even if you hated FINAL CRISIS (and I know many people do), it still represented the closest Darkseid has ever come to successfully controlling the universe, and his defeat at the end of the miniseries is also likely the most decisive defeat he has ever suffered. For all intents and purposes, Darkseid is dead.
Do you expect him to return? If so, how soon? Moreover, even if he does return, how is he ever going to top what he nearly pulled off in FINAL CRISIS?

he doesn't need to be seen again as we know him. something akin to the anti-monitor's death/evolution in green lantern should happen with darkseid. but i can only imagine that some new form of the evil gods might awake over on the universe where the new gods migrated to.

It should definitely be about 5+ years before "traditional" Darkseid shows up.
I'm guessing he'll be back in 2-3 years though.

i don't think we have any need for a traditional darkseid. screw it, it's over.

Yeah..."traditional" Darkseid had turned into something of a joke ("Jobberseid," anyone?) years before FINAL CRISIS. As mixed as fan reaction has been to FINAL CRISIS, it was still the best thing to happen for Darkseid's image as a major threat to the DCU in many years.
The question that it raises, however, is where to go from here. Returning to "traditional" Darkseid would be a letdown.

I could see Darkseid coming back as some sort of psychic essence that possesses people and slowing corrupts their body to look more like Darkseid's since his fourth world celestrial body was destroyed.
learning the fate of the other Gods of Apokalips would be interesting. As far as we know Granny Goodness is still a prisoner of the GLC. I'd think it'd be cool if she'd get a mention in one of the Green Lantern books after BN.
Is Desaad still in Mary Marvel? maybe trapped in her sub-conscious?

We will see him again whenever some hack-ass writer thinks that he's good enough to write Kirby characters after Morrison finally sent them off properly. So, maybe in a year or two. DC's sick with these pricks . . .maybe expect DARKSEID AFTERBIRTH by Geoff Johns and whatever shitty artist DC pretends is good for the month.

Easily within the next two years, and likely in a "muliversity" story by Grant. I'm not sure how he would be reintroduced back into the DCU, since they made such a big fuss getting rid of Kirby's New Gods. But when a writer gets bored and runs a concept passed the Ed's, a return of Darkseid and the others is inevitable.

Oh no...
You think?
Nahhhhhhhhhhh
I hope he isn't the big baddy at the end of Blackest Night.

I have this weird feeling he will be. Something about the complete void of emotion (which ultimately leads to chaos, the antithesis of order) that is the Black Lantern Corps screams his involvement.
But since the Black Lantern was created before Darkseid's fall and eventual death in FINAL CRISIS, I'm thinking it's not him.

Sadly I could see something like that happening.

No way man, he's dead. Darkseid is dead, long live Darkseid!
As cool as Darkseid is, he should be kept dead. Darkseid should've died a long time ago at the hands of Orion. At least he had a proper send-off.
If we see the gods of the Fifth World, I hope there's a new leader for the Apokolips-equivalent. No more Darkseid.
Darkseid is DEAD.
That said, I would't mind to see Black Lantern Darkseid being pulled out of that black hole in the center of creation.

I think 2015 would be the earliest that the character should show up again, but I'm banking on 2012.

No, they'll definitely leave Darkseid, their most powerful and popular villain, dead and instead focus on all the OTHER New God characters who are still alive and who have tons of sales potential, just as the end of Final Crisis indicated.
(Unless it didn't; there's no way to tell, really.....)

If DC were smart then they'd leave him alone and just use him in Post Great Darkness Saga legion stories. Although i guess he could travel back in time. Darkseid in a time bubble, you know you want to see it

Prediction: We will next see Darkseid in a pickle jar in Brainiac's kitchen.
But srsly, if Darkseid fell backwards through time when he was killed, is he not still falling backwards through time? Maybe Bruce (in a team-up with an adolescent Vandal Savage) will have to kick his ass once more. The resulting explosion of Darkseid's final (no, really, we mean it this time!) death throws Bruce back to his own time.
I guess the pickle jar is the more likely scenario.

While Darkseids presence was beginning to break the Multiverse he talked about him being the broken light and it shows all of the Lantern Corps beginning, one has to wonder..
I would figure the next story using the New Gods is probably going to be whatever Grant Morrison comes up with to bring back Batman/Bruce Wayne.
Even though none of them have really ever sold that great as comics, I have a hard time believing that DC will put the Fourth World characters in a box forever. Darkseid is one of Kirby's best creations, he won't be gone forever no more than Marvel could ever get rid of Thanos or Galactus forever. Now when they come back, it might not be in the classic Kirby form, they might change things around and play off of the changes that Morrison did in the Mister Miracle and Final Crisis series.

Probably by Multiversity via Morrison.

After the whole Legion of 3 worlds thing, Is "The Great Darkness Saga" still in continuity?
If so then yeah, He'll probably be back.
Hmmm... they SHOULDN'T bring him back but they probably will... Could be a chance we'll meet the New Gods in Multiversity (with a small Darkseid cameo or something)... but i think DC is gonna keep him on the downlow for a few years
And i will bet any one of you $100 that he is NOT the big bad in Blackest Night (seriously guys... wtf)

I believe in issue three of that series they indicated that yeah, it still is. Which is good, Darkseid has arguably never been used better.
And OF COURSE he'll be back. No change is ever permanent in comics. Personally I so detested "Final Crisis" I'm kind of eager for it, just to clear the palate.
Somebody upthread mentioned 2012. That'd be a good time to do it, do a story riffing on this Mayan Calendar, end-of-the-world nonsense.

Hey, anything's possible.
Did you think they'd resolve Superboy Prime by sending him back to Earth Prime and becoming an angry internet poster?

OH man dont get me started on this
Geoff screwed up (possibly the only time this has happened and the only time it will ever happen) and traded in story telling for lol-time

This idea just made me interested in Blackest Night. That would be pretty cool.

He could have a hole through his body where his heart should be too. That would look rockin.

But then Superman could easily shove a flag pole through him (without feeling bad about the act of impaling him) and fling him into the sun.
(It was that or "Ooh, and then the entire comic could have a hole in it too" but Malibu beat me to that about 15 years ago...)
