Fairy Tail Anime Voice Cast Announced [Archive]

This year's 36th issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine will announce the voice cast for the television anime adaptation of Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail manga next Wednesday.

Natsu: Tetsuya Kakihara
Lucy: Aya Hirano
Happy: Rie Kugimiya
Gray: Yuuichi Nakamura
Erza: Sayaka Ohara

Nice. They got the voice actor to Simon from TTGL to be Natsu. I personally thought they would get Luffy's voice actor to do him.

I thought Natsu would have a deeper voice than Luffy, so I think this fits better.

Hm, interesting cast.

Aya Hirano who's going to voice Lucy has previously played Mamori from Eyeshield 21 and Misa from Death Note, two of my favorite supporting characters in manga (I swear that I'm the only one who likes Misa) and she was good in both those roles so I'm happy with that choice.

Rie Kugimiya who's going to voice Happy has done lots of varied roles. Some of the more notable ones, for me, are Alphonse Elric, Shana from various Shakugan no Shan productions and Mizore from Rosario+Vampire. Very cool.

The others are equally accomplished but I've never seen any of their work.:redface:

Anyway, it seems like we've got some real pros here. That's good.

I know I'm jumping the gun by a long fucking way, but who do you guys see dubbing this series once they bring it over here? Or, who do you want to see dub it?

Personally, I want Funimation.

I hope Eraz is voiced by Luara Bailey, the dub voice of Lust from FMA.

She can also give both a commanding voice, and also a very soft, caring voice when the role calls for it.

That is why I think she would be perfect for Erza. Well her, or Wendee Lee.

As for Rie Kugimiya, she's the one who voiced Shana from Shakugan no Shana. As for being Happy, I think she can pull off a higher-pitched voice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS5GcusE16U).

Lucy looks a little better here (and not just because she's more, ah, unzipped). Erza... someone pointed out her bust has shrunk :eek: Normally I'm not a big-boobs enthusiast, but Erza's mature image really calls for it, so hopefully this is just an early artistic flub.

Also, I notice she's wearing her post-Tower-of-Paradise armor. Bit of a pity, since I liked the old one's sleeves and bare hands. Plus they won't get to use the newer one as a visual refresh like in the manga.

Finally, blue skirt. I think I prefer black, but it's not a big deal.

The nice thing about FairyTail is that it it alot like One Piece in that they should be bale to slip in a filler arc pretty smoothly since there is not a grandoverstretching arc running through the whole thing. Unlike say Naruto where a filler arc sticks out like a sorethumb.

Just saw the first ep.

Goddamn, that was terrible. And a show's animation generally doesn't improve after the OP and first episode. I'm debating whether to drop it and stick to the manga.

I was really not that impressed with the episode as a whole. Something just seemed off, and lacking. Not to mention that they animation wasn't helping things at points during the episode. On the plus side, the music was really well done.

Mashima's works rarely get a good budget for their anime adaptations. Heck, Groove Adventure Rave the Manga had a pretty good run, volume wise, but the anime ended after 50 some odd episodes without ever finishing the story. I fear Fairy Tail may end up in a similar situation.

Just saw it.

Yeah the fighting scene was too stiff. But otherwise I thought that it was good.

The voice acting was good. The animation, apart from the stiffness of the fight scene, was good. And most importantly, it was faithful to the manga.

I'm going to stick with it and see how things turn out.

Hmm, for ep.2 they played the aria from Carmen for the Council scene, and the Galop can-can music for the bar fight.

These may be classics, but the effect of reused music on top of crappy animation just screamed "NO BUDGET" at me all over again :frown: This show's getting it worse than Kaibutsu Oujo.

Have I mentioned I despise the narrator?
