JLA/JSA annual crossovers again? Yes please!

I was looking forward to the team of Bill Willingham and Matthew Sturges for the main JSA book :frown:

I'm sure each book will be great, but I rather have one with both writers tho. Also, I don't like the idea of two JSA teams as well. Right now, I'm reading and enjoying JSA vs Kobra with the JSA chars working together. Hmm I'm new to the series, but I don't know if this will be good or not.

I'm really sort of disappointed that Willingham is splitting up the JSA teams, especially after John's final JSA arch settled this problem: everyone is in. No one is getting kicked out.

I basically thought this was an issue done and over with.

I like the idea of more JSA, but an extra issue a month (ala semi-weekly books) would have been better.

I'm actaully pretty happy about that.
Despite Fables being my favorite title in stantds these days, I didn't like JoF, which they wrote togeother, so I was a bit unsure about picking this up, but now that Bill Willingham is writing solo on one title, I'll probably pick that up and maybe try All-Stars as well.
Besides, there were really too many characters in the team, to the point where it made the reading a little confusing sometimes.

ALL STARS sounds fun. I might pick that up.

And another JLA/JSA crossover by the new guys.

Sounds like much more fun than the Lightning saga.

JSA is in good hands I think.

Can't say I'm too surprised they're splitting the teams, nor am I all that disappointed either really. While I like what Johns did with the JSA, and the feeling that they're all one big family, there were a fair few characters pushed into the background. Obsidian became wallpaper, Sand vanished, Jakeem seems to only show up when people remember him and even newer characters like Lightning seem to get litte screentime. I think this'll probably be o the benifit of all characters involved, giving them a lot more chance to shine and for the newer ones to build up a following and get some characterisation.

I'm looking forward to actually getting to know the chracters. What do we know about Cyclone other than she talks fast? The new Judomaster had a pretty nice introduction in JSA then nothing. Same with WildCat II. If it weren't for JSA vs Kobra we wouldn't know that Mr. Terrific was still in Checkmate. What does Alan Scott actually do all day? Obsidian was literally just a security system.

I liked Johns' JSofA but we only got to know two or three characters. Everyone else was just window dressing with a line every 3 issues.

She talks fast become she is a hyper active little girl.

I want more citizen steel!

That all sounds really good, BUT I'm not sure I like the idea of PG switching to the All-Stars team. She's finally acting like the leader, but now she'll lead the junior team? I dont like that. I hope she stay on both teams.

Well somebody has to keep the young bucks in check. She has the expericence with the newbies and the old timers.

I thought Judomaster and Wildcat II came out better than some characters, at least Judomaster got some nice scenes with Damage and a family within a family vibe going with Hourman and Liberty Belle and Tommy did get some nice little scenes with his father. Overall, I agree with you though - I'm looking forward to seeing some characters come out of the woodwork and some of the new guys given more of a chance to shine.

Yeah and actually the same could be said about Stargirl.

I have had a theory that DC is attempting to publish two ongoings for every one of their popular characters/teams. This is the evolution of that.

First it was Green Lantern/Green Lantern Corps
Now JSA and JSA All-Stars
Probably a Flash and Flash Family
Superman and Batman already have multiple ongoings
i heard of didio's desire to have two wonder woman ongoings, good luck with that.

I wonder if we will get a JSA,JSA All stars and MAGOG crossover before the year is out.

Good way to generate a bit of buzz on the title.

Yeah, Its alot like DC to do a 'corner' crossover (Supes family crossover, Bats family crossover, GL\GLC etc.)

Im new to JSA and I dont know which of the titles to pick up
Is there any confirmed line-up to each team?

It's best to start with next weeks issue, #29. It's a good jumping on point. The team has a lot of members so they're not always all in each issue. I wouldnt worry too much about it, since it's a book you can jump right into and pick up the jist of quite quickly. For now Power Girl is Chairwoman, you've got your Golden Age originals Green Lanter, Flash and Wildcat, main members like Mr. Terrific, Hourman, Stargirl, and new members like Magog and Citizen Steel. You'll figure it out pretty fast once you start reading. I'd imagine by the end of the opening arc we'll see a very definite line-up for each JSA team.

Pretty Much.

Next week is my return to reading the title.

hmm splitting the teams, i like it, i dunno how much of the rest of the team there is left, but i like it.

i have been wanting an all stars/infinity inc style book for a long time, so this suits me, i just wonder why it is saying it is the younger members when powergirl is arguably not one of the youngest or even most inexperienced, i guess she must be the leader

so, the other team would be

gl(alan scott)
flash
starman(if he comes back)
jakeem thunder-if anyone remembers he is alive
mr terrific-if the cover to october solit is wrong
mr america
atom smasher
lightning
sandman
liberty belle?? though i wonder why she isnt with her husband, although at least maybe they can be written with some personality now rather than just the lovebirds
and dr midnite?

i think there need to be more girls on the team, as allstars seems to be taking most away-five out of seven?

maybe black canary will join up if she isnt on jla anymore? or huntress or somebody like manhunter-she is a legacy character afterall

This is going to be a big mess. In esscense, they are trying to sort out Johns' JSA and then some how putting a unique stamp on it. Why doesn't he use them as cannon fodder first in Blackest Night to clear out the roster for these guys?

The only thing I'm looking forward to is the Magogg series and, hopefully, an appearance by Gog.

Well JSA/JLA isn't an annual thing like it was when I was growing up (and really enjoyed especially Power Girl and Firestorm). I think the times of having an annual get together are long over because they are so sporadic now. If and or when it happens, it should be interesting to see.
The branching out to a new series doesn't surprise me, both DC and MARVEL do that for franchises that will sell. I agree with somebody in another post that hopefully by doing this the writers can focus on expanding the backgrounds on some of the members who don't get the spotlight. We'll see.

For sure. Never forget Ted. He is one of my favourite characters. I think he could hold an ongoing.

Yeah, if we're talking about making a JSA family of titles then I'd definatly be more interested in a Wildcat ongoing than the ones we're actually getting. Even a book that alternates between Alan, Jay and Ted would be fantastic... JSA: Founding Fathers. Heh.

No worries theyallfalldown, there are really a lot of them these days so I can sympathise.

I'm personally looking forward to having two JSA titles to pick up every month, but I have to say DC's timing on expanding their line does seem odd. I'd assume most people are looking to spend less money on comics right now, at least in the U.S.

Willingham is mad prolific right now. He's on Fables, JSA solo, Jack Of Fables (with Sturges), Angel (in November), and a new series at IDW and another new series at Dynamite with Andreyko. I'm really excited for his run on JSA
