I'm working on a comic script that involves two characters going to another country. One of the characters has trouble understanding the accents of the native characters.

Is there a good way to convey this? Right now I am simply writing out the accent the way it would sound if spoken. And only use that device when it mattered. I

Would it be better to perhaps make a note that an in-theory letter should make the text of the heavily accented characters a bit harder to read at times it pertained to the story?

I think Mark Twain did this really well in his (literature) books... although if you alter the spelling too much it can really slow the reader down. Altering sentence structure could be a creative way to handle it. Begun, the accent wars have.

2 suggested ways to convey this. Have the character convey his misunderstanding of another character's accent by having dialogue that has them conveying that the accent is vexing him ie, ("How can you understand what they are saying? their accent is giving me a head-ache.") and you can pepper it with his respnses during crucial points as 'Excuse/Pardon me?" "What the F*@K did you just say?"....etc. Have the text of the dialogue bubbles in a diffrent color or script ie, Deadpool, IceMan, Mind-linking between 2 psis.

You are so right Lew. Twain mastered the Southern lingo into text and I have yet to see anyone come close to duplicating it.
