And Jim, seriously, don't come in here and get smart. We've spent the last several weeks dethroning a major asshole.
You broke the site. You're going to have to pay my hourly rate to get it fixed. If you had asked about making some "changes" beforehand, it might be a different story.
Just so fucking sweet!

Yeah... she just PM'd me, but before reading it, I had to excuse myself for that moment of being offline. My computer needs to be upgraded BADLY and it crashed on me. Jo's did the same to her, so she'll be coming back any minute too. We both had to re-boot. We end up doing almost EVERYTHING together. LOL.
Anyway, I'll let ya' know what she said.
You're still the greatest, Bev.

Most likely, Shel isn't able to respond right away. Life may have called her away from her computer.

I didn't meant to "break the site," Shell...
We never knew that trying to put in a password would do this. Please help me out because I didn't even know that there was a password for my site that I wasn't made aware of. How could I have possibly known? That's what we were trying to get sychronized.
Please don't financially ding me on something that wasn't all our fault because, again, there's no way we could know that there was an unknown password in there.
From what the host says, it's just a very quick matter of restoring the password and us knowing what that is. He said it'll only take a minute or 2.
Please help us out?

Did you change a password in the code that you did not know what the password was for?
Nothing in the code was changed. The only thing that was changed was the access password to the database which apparently is embedded in the code. Since I don't know where the password is located in the code itself, I cannot go in and change it to be the new password. Thus the reason we needed your help.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
A lesson in SQL databases.
Many, many websites use what is called a SQL database. It is a background kind of thing that stores all of the information that is added to the site from the front end, the front end being the actual web pages themselves.
Your website, if it uses them, needs to be able to access the SQL databases at all times.
What he's gone is done and changed the password on the database itself. So his site can't get into the database. Because his site doesn't know the new password.
Now, tell me boys and girls, if you are playing with your website control panel and find a section with little areas that have special names and passwords for accessing them and you don't know what they are for, what are you going to do:
A: Leave it alone and ask someone who knows.
B: Change it.

And I've already told him that I don't have the password as I long since deleted all of the files I had stored for his site. It's in the config.php file.

We're tryin' to not do the computer crashes... believe me.
We even ended up getting a cold together at the same time, right before we got to meet in person, if that's not funny. And before you ask, we were introduced over the Internet... and that's how we met.
I'll tell ya'... I've been working so hard that my health was severely suffering for it, for a while, there. When I met Jo, finding new happiness with her fixed me right back up (as corny as that sounds... it's true).
I'd LOVE to be able to share updates with ya', but with mental midgets such as the forum's new poster-child-for-abortion and such, I still can't make any announcements yet. But, they'll be comin' out VERY soon... believe me.

I can't get in your Network Solutions Account. That's all on you. You were in there changing the password, you have access. If she "knows" about this kind of stuff then she should know that I've told her/you three times where to correct the problem.
The clock is starting to tick Jim. And my rate is $60 an hour, minimum $60.00. One more PM and your going to pay me to fix it.

And IF you had contacted me before monkeying around with the SQL databases you wouldn't be in this fix now, I'd have told you it's backend stuff to hold all of your site content and leave it the hell alone.

no one is trying to bash you AT ALL.
Shelly is saying that she's tired of doing free work for you. You want work done now you'll pay.
that's fair.
Shelly works her ass off... and she built you a really nice website for free.
You should be kissing her feet.
Furthermore,
You changed the password... so if she could help you for free... she couldn't since she doesn't have the password.
and Finally, how's stuff going on your end?
what's the status of the LBE projects?

We have the site up and running now without having to pay for it. If J-Bolt had been given a proper tutorial rather than being left to his own devices, we would never have had reason to contact anyone for help.
Furthermore, with the exception of sweet little Papergirl, no one else has bothered to intro themselves and say Hi to me. That certainly does not leave a favorable impression since J-Bolt had led me to believe that most people on here were very nice.
A great deal has been done on the progression of the LBE projects. I am not at liberty to discuss details at this time, but I have certainly had to share my time to allow J-Bolt to continue to advance in his work.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

We've become a little bit jaded when it comes to people who talk a big game, but don't produce. This Olney guy is a big reason why. Want to see someone who talked the talk then walked the walk? Unlike this silly J-Bolt character, I actually set out to make a film based on my comic book character...and actually did it!
Check it out - the film had a brief big screen release, was in competition at the New York International Film Festival (receiving several honourable mentions) and is now available to buy on DVD. And we had an Oscar winner (Scott Leva), an Emmy winner (Larry Groupé) and an emerging pop star (Mandi Leigh) onboard. Not bad for a $15,000 film, eh? View the site/buy the DVD here (http://www.the-wraith.com/movie). This is something J-Bolt will never achieve.

If J-Bolt were like Olney, he would have done so by now, I think.
J-Bolt's ambitions are BIG, BIG, BIG but he hasn't dragged other people into them the way Olney has.
I would advise J-Bolt to read up on the Rick Olney stuff. Olney is what Jim MacQuarrie was scared J-Bolt would become when people here weren't getting along.
I think J-Bolt's heart is in the right place, by and large, and look forward to some more actual work from him.

This is horrible. Why are people being so mean to J-Bolt now? I agree that it's because of the Olney business and I think that's very unfair. Let's not start chanting "pay Shelly" (whoever that is) as though the work has been contracted for and completed and some form of payment is actually due. If J-Bolt want's to hire anyone to help him with his website, I'm sure he'll pay them when appropriate.
But enough about that. Can we get some info as to how J-Bolt met his girlfriend, who she is (generally) and so forth?!

I THINK what's been said is that Shelly is saying that he'll have to pay for any EXTRA work but that the work done so far is free and that she sent him an invoice with a lot of zeros to show him what kind of awesome savings he got.
Paying Shelly for more would certainly yield good things if her free work is any indication.

Bullshit. Hang on, lets ask the two other guys in this thread that I've done site work for: Tom, Crowley, have you guys messed with anything in your site servers control panel because I said play with the site?
So, bullshit. Jim was in there playing with things he had no business playing with.
And I'm also gonna call bullshit on you knowing what you're doing in the sever. Since you couldn't even figure out how to log into a Network Solutions account.
Furthermore, with the exception of sweet little Papergirl, no one else has bothered to intro themselves and say Hi to me. That certainly does not leave a favorable impression since J-Bolt had led me to believe that most people on here were very nice.
We are nice, we are also suspicious, irritated, and busy.
A great deal has been done on the progression of the LBE projects. I am not at liberty to discuss details at this time, but I have certainly had to share my time to allow J-Bolt to continue to advance in his work.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

For the record, Jim doesn't owe me anything.
When I stopped working on his site and adding things to it, it was because he kept asking for more and more to be added and tweaked. Feeling that my offer was being taken advantage of, I told him I was done and any further work would be 'on the clock'.
And I meant it. I'm not doing anything else to that site without being on the clock. I don't care who breaks it.

Nice to meet you too Gail. I've heard lots of good things about you.
My name is Jo. We were introduced over the Internet. Our first phone conversation lasted for 10 hours. We talk on a daily basis. I live 2 hours from him so I'm able to spend time with him on weekends. What else would you like to know?
Now you've all got me curious about this Olney character. I think I'm glad I missed out on that one. However, I'm gonna Google him just to appease my curiosity.

This is the site Shel has worked on for me. I've never once had any problems with it, since I don't monkey around with it, and I listen to when she tells me something about the site.
Shel has never once left me to my own devices. Also, I don't expect her to work for free. She's a friend but friends need to eat too.
She made you an entire website for free, saving you hundreds of dollars and allowing your "company" a chance to promote itself. A little appreciation should be in order.
Jo, I'm sorry if we came off as a little harsh there. We however, are given cause by Jim's past behavior, much I'm sure he didn't share with you or if it was, he painted himself in a favorable light.
One, I think some people don't even believe you're real. Jim has used false personas before, a female even, on the internet and in print. Ask him about Heather Andes and J.B. Fisher.
Two, Jim has stretched the truth on many occassions if not outright lied a time or two. Especially about his projects. Comic books are time consuming in production. It shouldn't take years to make even one. As Frank has already mentioned, he's been able to put out several comic books, novels, and even make a movie or just a few years and on a limited budget.
Three, as you can see in his recent posts, Jim can be very insulting. He doesn't seem to have a problem making personal insults, especially about someone's family, but yet calls foul when anything is directed his way in return. He was especially insulting towards Gail for a number of years. Quite frankly, his remarks about Gail would have earned him a fat lip if said them in front of any male on this forum, and probably some of the female posters too.
So Jo, there is a lot of history here, most of it bad. Jim's not done much to correct this problem. There's been peace for a while but that mostly comes from people other than Jim holding their tongues.
I'm sorry if we took it out on you. Welcome to YABS.

Thanks Tom! I assure you I'm quite real. There are very distinct ways to know that I am not J-Bolt. You will see as you get to know me.
I realize there's quite a past there. I'm hoping I can be a positive influence and help to keep the peace. I'm not a miracle worker, but I'll do my best. LOL
If you want to know anything about me, all you have to do is ask.
Sometimes real life gets in the way making it difficult to do the things we aspire to do. My aspiration is to be a writer. Have I ever published anything? No I haven't because life changes caused me to put my aspiration on hold. There are those who think I will never be a writer but that doesn't stop me from holding onto my ambitions. Time will tell.

Just keep in mind that Shelly HAS done a lot of free work for you, Bolt. Try to make the most of it.

And, I'll add this: When J actually produces a comic and has it published, there are several people here who will be fighting to be first in line to get it.

If you are looking for a reason that some in this thread view Jim with some suspicion, look no further than this exchange. After receiving generous amounts of FREE work from a member here, he calls her professionalism into question an claims that it is HE that got burned. Y'know, if he hadn't already taken advantage of her goodwill so badly, he might have gotten some free advice at this time, but he already blew it.
If someone gave you a new car for free and something simple went wrong with that car, would you show up on that persons doorstep demanding they should honor some kind of warrantee?
If you really want to try to keep the peace, you need to direct your attentions much more toward Jim than toward anyone else in this thread.
Jim claims he wants to be friends, but when people here generously offered to help him, I didn't see him treat them as friends, I saw him treat them like simply exploitable labor for him to use and discard. I'm not sure you're aware, but Jim expected us to belive that he had some kind of "team" that worked on the website and that LBE has "dozens" of employees. Somehow none of these "dozens" of employees could get the site running correctly, so for years the LBE website was a joke and an embarassment.
Now the person who fixed the website and made it look professional for the first time in YEARS, after only a week or so of work that she did for FREE, Jim wants us to believe HE was BURNED by HER, because she won't do more work for FREE. Excuse me, but LBE is not a charity. I submit to you that it is SHE who was burned.
I was one of the people who is ready to buy any comic that LBE releases. That is no longer true unless Jim apologizes for his poor behavior of the past two days and starts behaving with a little gratitude and humility.
-Greg S.
PS it does not make me a "basher" to point out that Jim's behavior here has been poor. I sincerely want to buy a comic that he draws, but I cannot support an artist who treats his friends so poorly.

For gail, from an impartial observer..
Don't care much about J-Bolt, one way nor 'nother. But I'll approach this as an exercise in psychology.
Everyone's pretty on edge and banded together here. Tight knit group of friends, who have just gotten done dealing with one guy who won't pay people to work for them, and insults them.
Jim or Jo (I'm really not sure, and really don't much care which) broke a website, innocently or not, by messing with backend things that they didn't understand. If they understood it, it wouldn't be broke, but it's not really shel's place to educate them on website maintenance.
Anyway, they broke it, they asked for help, Shell asked for money. At this point, it becomes a question of, are you willing to shell out for professional work that you've messed up, accidentally or not.
Jim, obviously, is not, and feels that he should be entitled to free trouble shooting and repair. Shell replies that she's not playing, and people get defensive.
Now, that's all setting. It's perhaps a mixture of innocence, misunderstanding, and abbrasive attitude on several people's parts. It has everyone feeling defensive.
Then Jim's comment comes in, and whee, here's how people read it.
ya' deal with the devil, you get badly BURNED... and with you, I INDEED get burned.
The people who are upset read this as 'You're a devil for asking for money, and not helping me fix something you did for free and I broke.'
Then again, I've fixed that problem once and for all... completely by myself and with Jo. So, I've made my way OUT of that Hell.
Again, from the upset reader's perspective, that's read as 'Working with you was a living hell, and I'm never going to do it again, my girlfriend and I rock, and we are taking our ball elsewhere.
Now, these are regarded as insulting, and perhaps even unprofessional.
Whether that's what he intended or not, that seems to be the way the majority has recieved it.
I'd say if that was the way he intended it, he has indeed insulted a fine person, and burned a bridge, which is never good in a small community.
I'd say if it wasn't, then he should probably concider the mentality of his audience before writing.

Gail,
If you look back, Jim's reply that starts "You are absolutely right...." is from a post where HE quotes SHELLY saying: "I repeat, the web designer giveth and the web designer can taketh away."
So we are not misinterpreting the post. He is clearly calling Shelly the devil and saying he was burned by her! Yeah, I know, that would be beyond belief, but there it is!

Okay.
I'm not having people bashing Shell for doing a huge kindness for free. That is unacceptable. People, especially someone like Shelly who is kind and generous to the point of absuridity, should not be called names by the people they tried to help.
Jim, if you have a clarification, now would be a good time. You know Shell did more for you over the course of a couple days than your alleged 'team of designers' did for you over five years. And she did it for free. Calling her the devil is completely insulting and ungracious. I understand some people here dogpiled on, but that doesn't change what she did for you.
I think an apology and a clarification is the LEAST you could do.

Well, I'm trying to be as fair and reasonable as possible, you know, assuming that perhaps he meant it as a joke, or any other clarrification you can imagine. I mean, maybe he really didn't mean it the way it came out. I've written things in forums, gone back and read them and found that they read far different than my original half teasing sarcastic comment (My sig is a result of one such appology.) Okay, let me get this straight. She set you up with an easily maintainable site for free, which you did not have the knowledge to do yourself. Eventually, you parted ways, as she felt you were asking for too much free work. But still, you had a much better site than you used to. Months later, you decided to muck with your database password, not knowing it would completely disable any and all code that requests information from the database. Let's forget for a second that the first thing any reasonable person would do when something they've changed breaks everything is to change it back to what it was before, and assume that idea never occurred to you. You begged her for help. She told you exactly how you could fix it yourself, and if you couldn't figure it out, she would fix it for a fee. Now, as a programmer myself, I understand her being more than a little annoyed with you. Nothing ticks me off more than people changing things I've done, and then getting all pissy when it suddenly doesn't work anymore. Frankly, I'm surprised she didn't just tell you to fuck off. She delivered you a working web site. Something you did broke it. She is under no obligation to fix your mistakes, and your attitude that it is in any way her fault for not warning you of the many possible ways you could shoot yourself in the foot is rude to say the least.
You need to grow up, and be thankful and courteous to those that have helped you in the past.

WHY THE SITE WAS DOWN FOR TWO DAYS
Saturday, February 03 2007 @ 10:49 PM MST
Contributed by: J-Bolt
Views: 5
After not visiting the the CBR forums for over three months, J-Bolt's Lady told him that the site members missed him and were anxious to hear from him again, but to his dismay, he received anything BUT a warm welcome back, except from one great member, when he needed the aid of the original site designer.
The LBE site was down for two days, From February 1 - 3, 2007, due to a problem that had transpired as a result of the web designer who had volunteered to create this new design, last Summer. Sk716 not only failed to inform J-Bolt that a database program, used to create the site design, had a separate hidden password, but after three days of creating the design, and approximately a week of impatiently answering questions on how he can now run this new site, she told him that he was completely on his own to discover how to do the rest of the site himself. She informed him that further tutoring would result in charging him $60 an. When J-Bolt addressed his concerns of discovering the functions of more complicated programs that he had never experienced before, without more instruction, she replied that nothing on or in the site could be harmed by blindly toying around with it. So, she told him to just go ahead and experiment, until he's comfortable with it. Hesitantly, he's done so, but never came across any severe problems... that is until two days ago.
When J-Bolt and JsLady (Jo) were in the site's source, within the host directory, they wanted to change all the passwords to more uniformity. All that was done, that caused such melee, was placing a password into the MySQL database, which appeared to have none at all. To their surprise, there WAS a password for it, invisible to them, not being made aware that it even existed by the originator. To their complete shock, this shut the entire site down, while J-Bolt and Jo frantically worked on trying to get it back up. That first night, J-Bolt had immediately e-mailed sk716 to inform her of the problem, but never received a response back from her.
Finally, after two nights had passed, without a word from her, in an understandably, both of them were in a complete panic, as Jo thought of the idea to go into the CBR forums to not only try and find sk716, but to also introduce herself to the members. J-Bolt felt this to be a great idea, killing two birds with one stone, as it were, since the CBR members were always interested with what's going on in his life. She also found that they had been posting that they had missed hearing from J-Bolt in the three-month period.
In turn, she was met by members who were still set on bashing J-Bolt, including one who had never spoken with J-Bolt before, but felt it to be fun to take part in such immature and undeserved ranting against him.
The only member who did give Jo and J-Bolt a warm welcome was the ever-so-kind, and fun, "Papergirl," with her usual sweet charms. J-Bolt was also welcomed back by "Cream Filled Taco," in her own, special way, which J-Bolt always got a chuckle out of.
Having privately messaged and publicly posted messages on CBR, trying to find sk716, she quickly responded, not having given any reason for not doing so earlier. Instead, she insulted, even berated J-Bolt and Jo for having the problem to begin with, as well as not taking any responsibility for not warning J-Bolt of the possibility of such a disaster earlier, when he showed his concerns, during the Summer. She even had the gaul to gripe at them for not contacting her first, though it was obvious to anybody with common sense that not only did they try to do so upon the problem's appearance, but he was told that such contact would supposedly not be necessary. He reminded her that she erringly informed J-Bolt that he couldn't possibly harm the site by experimenting with it until he was completely comfortable with it, that Summer, to no avail.
Now, J-Bolt is not claiming that the entire CBR members have returned to 'bash mode,' by far. Still, most of them are absolutely great. But, this does go to show the sad point that the majority of the members who are friends to J-Bolt and LBE don't actively post, while the bad apples tend to take it over with their lone, childish posts.
This is an important reason as to why any spare time that J-Bolt has been able to have to himself, between working on all the LBE projects and his personal life, he has not posted on the forum for over three months. This is a similar situation of why J-Bolt didn't use his time to post on the forums for that period, as that was what he was experiencing when he was last there.
J-Bolt is hoping that the good members don't turn against him yet again, for making this announcement, with such details as to why the site was down, being mostly due to one of their prized members. Then again, he wouldn't be too surprised if some of them do turn back to the 'Dark Side,' because of it. Unfortunately, it's a sad state of events when their bad members verbally attack J-Bolt, and others turn against him when he chooses to defend himself.
Hopefully, this won't happen... but only time will tell.
Meanwhile, we sincerely apologize for those two days that the site was down, but J-Bolt and Jo discovered the problem, which they ended up solving differently from the insulting suggestions of the original designer.
Now, once again, the fans and friends of Lightning Bolt Entertainment can partake in the site's interactivity once again. So, HAVE FUN!
I don't know what to say...Everything I can think of saying would be inapprorpiate even for this forum. Holy shit.
Gail, in the past I have always cautioned you against banning people because it would go against your principles. But this time....ban him!
I am furious. Somebody does him a good turn and this is how he repays it? Just....really......just.....I can't do it. I can't expressed at how pissed off I am.

Drop dead, "J-Bolt".
OK, we've heard everybody's side of the website thing, let's not get hung up on that. The site is back online and for real LBC fans, that's all that matters.
I'm more interested in finding out more about JsLady, how they met, so forth. In fact, I've often thought that J-Bolt's detractors have benefited in the past because he didn't have anyone online who knew him personally (after Heather moved on to other duties)... made it too easy to make him out to be a charicature or even demonize him.
Jo, could you speak for a bit, either here or in a piece for the LBC site, about how you met J-Bolt, how you came to learn about his publishing company, what your first impressions of him were, and what you think of him now, maybe giving some insight into a side of him we may not have seen online? I for one would find any comments facinating... I wouldn't normally ask but you've already shown a willingness to be outspoken on J-Bolt's behalf an ability to do so in a very elequent and constructive manner.

I'm really not too surprised.
Just because many people decided to look the other way in regards to J-Bolt's behavior in order to keep the peace doesn't mean the behavior went away. If anything, it condoned his behavior. Hell, keep promising to buy his books and he'll never change. He doesn't need to.
I'd be the first one in line to shake Jim's hand if there was an honest to God change on his part. I'm not a person to harbor hate.
But there's been no change at all. He returns Shell's kindness with scorn and again paints himself as the innocent in the matter.
Jim, do you really want peace here at YABS? It starts with you accepting responsibility for your actions and seeking forgiveness.

Why thank you Omar! I really appreciate the compliment. I wrote a piece on the LBE website about how we met and so forth. What I didn't mention is that I'm from Missouri known as the "Show Me" state. I am one of the biggest skeptics there is. Therefore, J-Bolt has had to prove everything he has said. I can assure you he has done so. I've seen him working on the projects, the movie, the comic book(s), the designs for the merchandise, etc. I have even seen the written guarantee from the investment firm providing the funds for the projects and know that he is working diligently on getting the final $100,000 for the due diligence fees. It took a few days for me to learn that he is J-Bolt since I had more interest in the person not the persona. There had been a concern that I would see him differently once I learned of his professional identity. This has not been the case since I view people for who they are not what they do. I love to watch the progression of his latest projects evolving even further from an idea to a reality. He's an inspiration for me to work on achieving my long held dream of becoming a writer. In fact, I have been asked by him to write a novelization of the BombShell screenplay. I've also been asked by Spencer Russell to write a novelization for a film he's producing. As for Jim personally, he's very romantic and protective of the ones he loves. His kindness shows in his eyes and the happiness he feels with me as well. You will know he has truly found the love of his life when he speaks of me. I hope to get to know all of you and if fate should allow to meet you personally.

The problem is, that you came here with someone who is well known to the board as being antagonistic, rude, and downright boorish. In addition, he is known to use "alternate identities" (read sock puppets) to add weight to his arguments.
You started out by demanding to know the whereabouts of our friend, who, incidentally, DOES have a life outside of fixing website problems. You then proceeded to complain in a very public way that she hadn't answered your messages which, if I read correctly, weren't more than a couple days back.
THEN, and only then, did you actually bother to introduce yourself. Perhaps you might have considered joining in one of our often fond and civil discussions BEFORE coming onto the board and demanding that one of our stalwart regulars fix a problem that you and your erstwhile boyfriend created.
In addition, you might have considered doing a bit of research and learning that posting here as J's Lady and not your own person might have netted you a better reception - one that was unaffected by the many difficulties that members of this board, SK especially, have encountered while dealing with your "man".

Crowley...
I like you... you're a friend, no denying. BUT, there are still the very select few who ARE doing the "old ways" against J-Bolt. There's no denying that at all, Chum. Some bashers still do exist.
Sk716 tired of doing free work for me??? You make it sound as if she's been slaving for me free for all this time. The truth of the matter is that she worked off and on with doing the new site design for approximately 3 days, using a format she said she already had in her files.
THEN, over the following approximate 5 days, she answered questions I had about the new design, concerning the databases and programs that I had NEVER before worked with, which were QUITE complicated... but she did so in an irritated fashion, as if I should have know all about these items, not taking in that if I had, I would've implemented them a LONG time before and not accepted her assistance. She acted like I was seriously bothering her anytime I asked her anything, which wasn't but about 2-3 times a day, in that 5 days.
After that time, she made me aware that she was tired of tutoring me on how to run these new features she had installed and told me that I was now on my own, to just experiment around on my own until I became comfortable with it and knew completely how to use it all. I told her that such a concept made me nervous as "experimenting" with programs and such, that are so brand new to me, and I knew nothing about (actually at that point, I had learned a bit in the 5 days, but obviously still knew very little about), such experimentation have ALWAYS proven to be quite disastrous, when I had done so on my website or computer. She assured and PROMISED me that there was NOTHING that I could hurt about the site WHATSOEVER just by toying around with it. I told her that such a concept still made me extremely nervous as my site is obviously very important to my company. So, she put it as: either I learn it on my own the way she said or she'd charge me her hourly rate just to answer an occasional question now and then. I was left with no choice, but took some solace in her 'comforting' words that nothing I'd do would hurt the site.
Now... I was quite happy with the great frames design I created for my company site and has maintained by my [then] design team, as were my members. The CBR members were the ones who were strongly suggesting the change to my site and that sk716 do it for me, having her vast knowledge in PHP (which I did have a little knowledge in, but not enough to make any good use of) and MySQL (which I didn't know at all). It took some convincing from everybody here to get me to make the change to the site, but I graciously accepted this "GIFT" from her, and even entrusted her to very sensitive/confidential information concerning my website and company in order to accomplish the site's new design with the necessary information.
Never looking a gift horse in the mouth, I happily accepted it and even took a lot of demeaning crap from her, treating me like an idiot for not knowing everything about these programs and databases... and I did so with a smile, which hid clenched teeth.
When it was completed, I couldn't stop thanking her enough, announcing how great it looked in private e-mails, private chat, on the CBR forums and on my website, even giving her a great link, which I just couldn't stop raving over her work and how great it was, telling people that SHE is the only person they should have their website designed by. Does anybody remember that? No... of course not.
Now, she obviously did NOT tell me that there was a hidden password on the MySQL, and not to mess with it, for which Jo nor I knew elsewise. Otherwise, WE WOULD NEVER HAVE TOUCHED IT. And since she told me that I could do ANYTHING to the site without hurting it, Jo and I felt safe to go in and add the password to the MySQL whereas it appeared there was none, not knowing that the database had created a random one and hidden it in the config file. This caused the entire site to crash. And since we didn't know about this other, hidden password, there was no way for us to restore it.
What did sk716 do on this site when we asked her help, when she didn't answer my e-mails after even 2 days? She completely insulted and belittled us, acting as if it were our fault, when it was mostly hers for making me think that nothing would happen to the site if I experiment with it. THEN, she treated us like absolute idiots for doing anything at all to it, when we were going on her TELLING ME THAT I CAN DO ANYTHING TO THE SITE WITHOUT HURTING IT.
I keep stressing these points because I/we did NOTHING that I was told outright wouldn't be harmless to do.
Jo knows about MySQL, but only the much older versions. She thought that the newer versions wouldn't be that far removed, but obviously she was mistaken. But again, if we would've had any indication that any harm could've come to the site by making any changes (which we thought were minor), we would never have done anything.
And again, I tried to contact sk716 that night that the site went down, and there was no way we could find to reverse it, but got NO response from her. So, her griping that we should've contacted her first doesn't hold water for 2 reasons: 1) we didn't know there would be a problem, since she said the site was un-breakable to me, and 2) obviously, contact with her did no good as that's why we went onto CBR after not hearing from her for 2 days. Plus, her holier-than-thou attitude always made me wary of asking her anything, since the time I did last talk to her, being last Summer, and now you can see why... because I got nothing but insults and berating for having a problem that could've easily been diverted had she warned me of the password to begin with.
In short... the framed site design I had previously was great. I and my members were completely happy with it, therefore I was not the one who insisted on this change. It was everybody on CBR who convinced me to let sk716 re-design it... and I eventually accepted it. I did so quite graciously, even going out of my way to publicly show my appreciation and give kudos for the work she did do.
So, in more ways than one, above and beyond the call of duty, in giving thanks, I did everything I possibly could think of in showing my appreciation. For all intents and purposes, it's quite possible that she may have even developed a couple new customers as a result of my constant pitching for her on my company's website.
With that, NO, I NEVER made myself out to be ungrateful. I even completely put her rudeness way behind me until Jo and I received the barrage of insults/ridicule, last night. Again, all this melee could've been avoided had she told me the possibility of the problem when I asked her, last Summer, instead of telling me there's no way that I could hurt the site.
And to address those who are PO'd that I referred to her, using the 'devil' phrase, the reasoning behind it is because when you deal with the devil, you'll find that the price ends up being more than you were expecting and/or willing to pay, after you've found that there were loopholes in the deal to begin with. In comparison, she made a bad mistake in telling me that there's no way I could hurt the site, knowing that in learning the site, I'd eventually run into working with this password, not knowing there was one hidden inside it. So, after not responding to my e-mails, asking for her help to fix this unexpected problem (being a possible problem that I did foresee, as I made her aware of my reservations about "experimenting" and "toying" with something I knew nothing about), I was forced to find her on here. Immediately, Jo and I were met by her venomous attitude, knowing that she had either made a grave error with not letting me know that part about my site, or doing it on purpose. Either way, she erred badly. Then, she wanted me to pay her for cleaning up her mess, which could've been avoided.
I'm not going to assume that she might've done this on purpose, OBVIOUSLY knowing that I knew nothing of this program, and thinking that I'd never be able to fix it on my own... but it sure as Hell makes me wonder, considering that when it occurred, she wanted money to fix what she caused.
THAT is what I meant behind the 'devil' comparison. Either way, she wanted money for something she caused.
Now... if ANYBODY owes an apology here, it is SK716! If she would've said something to the effect of 'oh, you're right... I'm sorry I didn't tell you about or think of that, when you asked J-Bolt... let me go in really quick to fix that and you'll know to avoid that from now on,' then, none of this escalation would've happened. But, she didn't. Instead, she placed the blame on us for something she caused and tried to profit from.
So, if that comparison peeves anybody off, I'm just giving the facts with my comparison. And I have more right to do so than she did for calling Jo and I idiots for having a problem that she caused. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
no one is trying to bash you AT ALL.

This is YABS. Every thread but this one and the Olney thread are civil discussions.
Of course, Jim has been invited to participate in the rest of the board before and refused.
We're bashers. And ilk. And lebians.
Apologize or we can have a repeat of the last few rounds.
I didn't even look at the other ones except Olney after curiosity got me wondering who he was/is from reading about that here. Now I'm understanding what YAB is. I'll take a look at the others as time allows.
Thanks!

For that matter, did he ever say thank you to SK?
Maybe, I don't recall any thank yous, I recall him asking me multiple times to participate in some of his "money making" schemes. I used quotes because I really don't think selling BombShell Fonts would make any money.

Now... I'm done discussing that subject as I've stated my side and if anybody sticks up for her, just because she's one of the clan here, then it just proves what I've always said that such people stick together no matter what.
I've always been a person who believes (and practices what I preach) about taking responsibility for one's actions. I taught this to my kids also. When I do or say something wrong/harmful to somebody who did not deserve it, I apologize for it, punish myself for it, make amends to the person affected by it, learn from it, teach that lesson to others, and move on. I guess I, and Jo, are of a rare breed of people in being that way, as Jo is the kindest, sweetest person, that I've ever had the honor of having in my life. And she lives by that same standard as I do. Yet, I keep coming across people who are exactly the opposite.
When somebody close to me makes a similar error, I stand by them in TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for their actions... not covering for them and saying they're right no matter what, helping them to cover for their screw-ups, just because they're close to me. I don't want that type of person in my life.
Those of you people, who have never gotten out of bash mode, wonder why I haven't been on here, besides my busy schedule? Get a clue and read what's going on.
Now, Crowley...
As for the rest of your questions concerning how stuff's going on my end and the status of LBE projects, I think you have the answers to that now, My friend.
As far as kissing sk716's feet? I can't stop laughing so hard. It hurts my abdomen... ROFLMAO. She can kiss my butt as well as anybody else who feels that way, especially after reading my side of the story, and knowing that I have all communications between she and I saved to prove all I've factually stated.
Anyway... I got my side of the story out completely in the open and I doubt that I'll be coming back on here anytime soon again, for obvious reasons.
Ya' know... All while I've been writing this, Jo has been telling me what's going on in the posts and I warned her that as soon as she said anything supportive of me, that people will turn on her. Being the sweet, caring person she is, she didn't believe it, wanting to believe the best in everybody and that I MUST be wrong about all of the still-existing bashers, telling me that I need to go easier on these people.
The MOMENT she answered Omar's post, confirming how hard of worker I am, and telling people how she feels me to be a caring person, these people proved me right... because she IMMEDIATELY STARTED BEING ATTACKED. I told her that this has ALWAYS been the practice of anybody who has ever come into this forum, supporting me in any way. Omar is the only one who has ever stuck around and continued taking the abuse for supporting me.
Now, she's gotten to see just how right I have always been about the remaining bashers, here.
I don't know if she'll continue coming here to read this train-wreck, but I wish to thank everybody for proving me right yet again.
For those who are NOT being jerks towards me nor Jo, and see my side of the sk716 story also, thank you... you're a worthy person. Those who are the opposite are still, and always will be, worthless pieces of complete garbage.
Don't be surprised if I continue a long absence from this place again, if I EVER decide to come back at all.
Anybody who does want to be a good person and talk to me can e-mail me. You know the address: J-Bolt@lightningboltentertainment.com. All others, don't bother, because the delete button is the easiest and greatest invention that could've been created for a computer. And you KNOW I won't give you the time of day to give audience to your little tirades.
Later... maybe,

Well, that's got rid of him. It's a good thing we're all multi-taskers. Having two unproductive idiots who think they're owed other people's work for free to deal with around here was just one too many.
