I keep hearing white lantern and I've been a regular reader of GL but have yet to see them even mention a white lantern. Where has a white lantern been mentioned other than the one page in DC Universe #0 with the 9 different corps panels.

There has been no mention of any white lantern in any green lantern comic yet. it's all just fan speculation.

Yes, it's all been pure Internet speclation. And I don't think that first panel is showing a White Lantern. Looks more like a negative image to me.

As if 8 corps weren't enough, right?

White = All colors combined. If Black = Death, then White = Life. In other words:

At the end of Blackest Night, all lanterns combine their powers, and RESURRECT all the dead heroes!!!

...Or so I wish for.

The first panel in that pic is merely a negative of the actual panel, presumably done by a fan to further this rumor. Here's the art as it actually appeared in the issue:

As others have already said, the whole White Lantern thing is merely fan speculation at this point. Johns has been very careful to neither confirm nor deny its existence (although thematically, it does make sense).

The White Lantern would be one who embodies all the power of the light and thus could defeat the Black Lanterns.

I pray to the Holy Lantern God, that Johns does not go with a White Lantern. Just have Hal and Sinsetro team up and take down the big bad. That makes more sense to me.

How does it not make sense? Seems pretty logical if Hal ends up using all the rings at some point.

There was the panel in Green Lantern #42 where Hal did see Sinsetro and he said this:

"I can't do this without you" something like that once the Blue Ring worked and Hal saw a better tomorrow etc. He did not know what it meant at the time

I am using my Blue Ring on hoping to see what the Blackest Night #1 will look like. I have seen the variant, but not the standard.

If they do a white lantern theme (ugh) they had better not make it like Captain Planet or something equally cheesy. I hope at this point, it stays at fan speculation and nothing more. But, white=life death=black and some relative moral of why it is bettter to "feel emo(tions) rather than be dead since life is too short" is kind of what I'm expecting  in the end.

White would make sense if the rings were a color thing (which they kinda are) but they are supposed to be emotion things.

I still don't know how death is an emotion. Therefore just another ring to round out the color thing without any basis on 'emotions' just gets kinda silly.

I dunno I can't help but think that the white lanterns are going to happen. Either it will be a member of each corps combining to form a white light...or I can't help but think the foreshadowing of all of the characters who have died and now come back are somehow important in this? Maybe they are immune to the powers of the black lanterns and so become white lanterns? It was a very specific group too, as it wasn't all of the characters who have been resurrected, for example donna troy was not listed.

This kinda links in with thwarted blackest night action figure range. Wonderwoman is going to get one which makes no sense to me at all unless she either dies and becomes a black lantern, or becomes another lantern of some kind mebbe?

DC has completely lost it with the multi-colored lanterns. What is the point of the other lanterns? I figure it won't be long before the others fade into obscurity and it will only be the Green Lanterns again. And, Sinestro with a yellow ring.

Over at Ifanboy they interviewed him, and some fans asked him some question, one asked if there will be a white lantern. He Said there will be NO white lantern.

Unless if Geoff is lying, it will NOT happen.

Death is not supposed to represent any emotion. Death means the lack of it.

the entities will combine together and become the white entity, then Hal becomes the White Lantern and kicks Black Hand/Death Entity's ass...I'd like to say that Kyle will become the White Lantern, but It's going to be Hal (If there even is a White Lantern)

I don't expect to see a White Lantern but I do expect Hal to harness the white light which will help him defeat the Black Lantern but there will be no white lantern corps.

As soon as seven different shades of Lantern were mentioned, coresponding to the seven colours of the light spectrum, a White Lantern was pretty much inevitable and obvious, especially with Black ones being ther as well.

Perhaps the questions isn't "Will Johns introduce White Lanterns?", but "If Johns introduces White Lantern, can he make then not seem silly, stupid or suck out loud? ".

This will likely be linked on your feelings with the other six corps likely.

Has Johns done anything so far that suggests he would write such an obvious and cliched ending to what could potentially be the pinnacle of his writing career? I'd say not.

I'm going to keep the faith and hope he goes for a more original ending.

On a side note is DC Universe #0 going to be collected with the rest of Blackest Night do you think?

Even taking into account Johns lack of subtly, he's not going to make a White Lantern (and certainly won't make Hal one.) He has spent the last few arcs basically saying "Hal would suck trying to use Red or Orange or Blue on a regular basis; he just doesn't have enough rage/greed/hope to make it work." (One can argue he made the same point about yellow and fear during the Sinestro Corps War.) It would be silly for him to turn around and suddenly control his emotions well enough to be the one true White Lantern.

Only in a little place called "in people's minds". It's nothing but speculation gone wild. Kind of the same way people started saying SO stridently that Batman had to have been struck by Omega Beams, and thus had to be traveling through progressively worse lives, when in fact nothing except the fact that one other character, once, had a similar fate really supports that. People want something to be true, so they start acting like it HAS to be.

When you mix pigments, all colours become black. Mixing coloured light through a prism, the colour spectrum becomes white light. Black is the absence of light.

If you mix all the colors it's BLACK not white.

I think some of you need better color sense.

And some need to learn science.

Mixing all different shades of visible light makes white.

Mixing all different shades of paint makes black.

Light or paint? You pick.

That said, there isn't going to be any silly White Lantern. If Hal was meant to be Jesus, sure. But he's not.

I know it is just fan speculation, but it doesn't make sense.

Doesn't make sense? Sure it does. Think about it. It couldn't be more obvious.

White = All colors combined = Life

Hal Jordan has a green ring. Had yellow rings. Had a red ring. Had an orange lantern. Has a girl who loves him as a violet lantern and we haven't heard much from the "mysterious" indigo lanterns but I bet Hal meets them in blackest night.

Care to guess what that all means?
