I am pretty new to Green Lantern. I have read most of the Johns stuff (Rebirth, Sinestro Corps War, etc.), but I was wondering what some pre-Johns required reading would be?

I would appreciate it if someone could give me a quick rundown/reading order of all the Emerald Dawn/Twilight/other stuff and tell me which ones to avoid.

You should check out Green Lantern #47, where Hal Jordan destroys Coast City.

Emerald Dawn 1 & 2 are basically Hal's origin.

Emerald Twilight is Hal's downfall.
Zero Hour is Hal's attempted restructuring of the universe.
Final Night is Hal's beginning on the path to redemption.
Day of Judgment is Hal's start as The Spectre
...which brings us to Rebirth.

I'd also recommend Green Lantern/Aliens if you can find it. It was a fun crossover with Dark Horse.

Pretty much this. You can also get the old Green Lantern/Green Arrow stories although I'm not really a big fan of those.

Hal Jordan's story was always hinted at from an early stage in my view, This can seen the Flash: The Secret of Barry Allen and The FLash: Ignition, you can also check out Hal as the SPectre in The magic themed event by Geoff Johns called:Day of Judgment. Hal guest stars as the Spectre in The JSA arc's The Return of Hawkman and the LOST TBP. You will find cool hints in these above stories that can be viewed as hints and sub plots suggesting they were bring Hal back from the dead and back to be being the Green Lantern.

Yeah, there's this big awesome section between Hal going nuts and Hal being the greatest thing since oxygen, all about some character who kept the franchise afloat for ten years or so. Kyle Rayner? Anyone?

Winnick's run on GL with Kyle is awesome. People hate it because of winnick-hate, but it really is good. Trust me.

I really like winnicks run. Plenty of solid tales he told.

Yeah, definatley. The whole Nero arc was great, and the "he's an artist.." was the perfect cherry on top of a perfect nemesis cake! Nero was the anti-Kyle in every way, and I don't think Winnick gets enough credit for his creation.

Oh, and even though it's not in continuity, one of the best Hal stories ever is in DC: The New Frontier. That, my friend, is a must.

New frontier is sublime. I have yet to read a bad review or fan comment about that story.
