Saw this in the Marvel forum and thought it would be cool for over here too. So who makes your top 5 from the last 5 years?

Dex-Starr
Kate Kane (Bat Woman)
Damian Wayne (Robin)
Jamie Reyes (Blue Beetle)
Atlee (Terra)

I might change my mind after hearing some of yours

It's hard to think of any, isn't it? There are Cyclone and Scandal... Oh! What about American Eagle of the Zoo Crew?

Here are the Legion-related characters I can think of that are of any significance: Gazelle, Dream Boy, Praetor Lemnos, Elysion, Jordana Gardner (the Teen Lantern), Theena, M'Rissey...

Heck, some of the members of the new Corps alone would get some props from me. I like Saint Walker of the Blue, but a lot of folks are really excited about the bad guy Reds and the Sinestro Corps.

I'd say the new Blue Beetle and Cyclone stand out in my mind as well.

Jamie Reyes (Blue Beetle), by far.

Arkillo is cool as well IMO.

Jaime Reyes, by far.

Damian's the worst character to be created by either company in decades. He's all but chased me away from the entire Batman line of books.

Nate Heywood - Citizen Steel. Yeah, he's a legacy, but imo he has the most potential in all the characters Johns introduced in his new JSA run. I hope the new creative team take the time to build him up even more. :)

I don't think Batwoman counts. I mean, her personal life is all new, modern, up-to-date and just starting to be explored ... but she really is a revamp of an existing character, only now being brought into "Earth-Zero". I'll give them all credit (heaping, piling, adulation filled boatloads of credit) for doing the work on her that they've done the last three or four years and "practically" creating a new character. But she's still Katherine Kane.

As for me ...

Blue Beetle III ...
Soranik Natu ...
Scandal Savage ...
(Went to say Hush and realized that was seven years ago ... man, I feel old ... how the heck long ago was Montoya introduced?)
I guess Damian is growing on me.

And I have a good feeling about Professor Pyg ... and maybe an even better feeling about Rucka's new femme fatale, Alice.

Can I suggest the Great Ten? I know not much has been done with them, but I'm so taken with the concept alone that I'd love to see them stay on for a long, long time.

I'm pretty sure that The new Bat Woman is Kate (short for Katherine) Kane and the old Bat Woman was Kathy (also short for Katherine) Kane. But they are two different people. In fact, I think Kathy is an older relative of Kate's.

... according to Wiki...

"Her father is an ex-colonel and she has an stepmother. It is unconfirmed whether or not Kate Kane is related to the New Earth versions of Kathy Kane, although 52 alludes to there being an older Katherine Kane in Kate's family. In detective comics 854, it is stated she has a cousin named Bette, who could well be Bette "Flamebird" Kane."

Even though she's a legacy character, she counts because it's a completely new person. Right?

She's been in more than an issue or two. She was a big part of 52, she was in Final Crisis, Final Crisis Revelations, Crime Bible, and Countdown, not to mention her starring in the new Detective Comics.

No love for Ryan Choi? He's my pick, even though we rarely see him anymore.

1. Jamie Reyes (Blue Beetle)
2. Scandal Savage
3. The current Ragdoll

All could have easily been throwaway D-list characters if the authors who wrote them didn't care about their history and origin while building on it and establishing bonds with other legacy characters.

A few that show promise, once explored more are Jeannette, Proffessor Pyg, and the new Azrael (Michael Lane) and maybe a select few ringbearers introduced in GL (Sodam Yat, Larfleeze)

My vote goes to Larfleeze/Agent Orange.

Second choice would have to be Most Excellent Super Bat, followed by Damian Wayne.

Blue Beetle (Jamie Reyes) is definitely the "biggest" new character. He's all over the Batman: The Brave & The Bold cartoon, and even has an action figure now.

Seeing the replies...man I wish DC created more new characters!
