Hey gang,

I'm thinking of putting together a swap meet with my lcs, but I had a few questions as to how something like this should work. If anyone has actually done one, or attended one, any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Anyhoo, here's my questions.

1. Should there be a flat charge to participate? I was thinking $5 would be fair, especially if I need to rent a space.

2. Should I be in control of all the books, or should each participant mind their own?

3. Can a straight 1-1 swap really work? I'm thinking that there will be a bunch of junk left over that no one wants, so not everyone will get their allotted number of swaps. Maybe 2 tickets for every three books brought in?

4. If it's not a 1-1 swap, what should be done with remainder of the books? I would imagine they should go back to their original owners, but then again someone might lose out.

5. Should there be a limit to how many books one person can bring in? I was thinking 50 might be a magic number.

Well, that's all of got so far. Thanks for the help!

10$ for a bag and whatever you can fit in it?

Each person should mind their own I think

If you leave the book control up to the individual owners it is on them to get fair value for their books

4. If it's not a 1-1 swap, what should be done with remainder of the books? I would imagine they should go back to their original owners, but then again someone might lose out.

Someone might, but if they are going to swap 2 books for 1 better book ITO then its their choice.

5. Should there be a limit to how many books one person can bring in? I was thinking 50 might be a magic number.

I wouldn't limit it.

You could also pick some choice books and raffle them as a give away. This could bring in a little more scratch for you and get people to participate.

Do you Own the LCS? Raffling 20% discount cards would also be good then. Maybe door prizes of discount cards and comics.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I was picturing this as a local event, not web-based. But on the off chance you live in the greater Spokane area, be my guest.

I don't own it, but i'm friendly with the owner, and have worked with him on events before. He and I had been discussing doing a convention, but I thought this might be a unique alternative, since we already have to cons in the area.

Has anyone actually been to a Comic Swap or done one themselves? I thought that it would be better to not rate things on value, but just put all contributions into a "pool" so that you're really swapping with the system, not an individual. Does that sound fair?
