View Full Version : What role, if any, will the Anti-Monitor play in BLACKEST NIGHT?

At the very least, we know that the Anti-Monitor will be the power source for the Black Lantern Corps during THE BLACKEST NIGHT, but do you think his role will be limited to an inanimate power source? Will he have a more active role and threaten the Multiverse a third time? In many parts of the lead-up to BLACKEST NIGHT, the search for and recovery of parts of the Anti-Monitor's physical remains has been brought up...a bit too often to fit well with the idea that he isn't going to be seen again as anything other than the passive power source for the Black Lanterns.

In GL #42 they said that the Black Lantern Central Battery was actually a tomb, so possible he's being held there (as a power source) against his will. That still leaves the mystery of who is behind this. In this week's issue Scar refers to the mystery guy as their Lord. Let the speculation begin .....

Wich fits pretty well with Nekron, lord of the unliving... Come on, it would be the most obvious choice: the lord of death, with extremely vast powers, runs a corps of dead people. He hasn`t appeared yet in Johns GL, bus he seems the right guy to be behind all of this. I don`t think Johns will present somebody new to be the mind behind Blackest Night.

And he doesn´t seem to care about picking obvious choices as archnemesis: for example, the long dead Sinestro for GL:Rebirth and the long dead Zoom for Flash:Rebirth.

Energizer Bunny of the Black Lanterns.

Wonder what his name is - Manduck? Mandump?

Could be Nekron. If so, Johns better give him an awesome origin story. Still rootin' for Krona, though.

I thought he'd end up being the Parallax of the Black Lanterns, but it looks like that job is taken.

It is so nekron.

It is so nekron.

I disagree.

I think Nekron is the Black Entity, like Ion, Parallax, Predator, whatever lives in the Orange Battery, and so on and so forth.

I think Nekron is currently housed inside Black Hand - that he had established a connection early on, strengthened it when Hal-Spectre torched Hand's hand, and now that Hand is dead, he's giving him the full power.

As for who I think the Lord of the Black Lanterns is ... I was leaning toward Krona for a while ... but now ... now I have no idea.

(Not that it'll surprise me if I turn out wrong and Nekron does end up being the big bad).

Yeah, I'm a little confused by this. I would think that Black Hand is the Sinestro of the Black Lantern Corps. Could this maybe be a mistake in writing by Johns? He doesn't typically make them, but still, this makes little sense.

I believe you are right my friend. It seemed as though he was taken against his will.

I wasn't aware there was much doubt. At the end of SCW, the Black Lantern was created and encased what was left of the Anti-Monitor against his will. We just don't know all the details of who and why.

I'd imagine whomever trapped A-M in there did so to either tap his power as a battery for the BL Corps, or to use A-M as a conduit for some other-dimensional being or power (if the big bad is Nekron, or even Krona, this latter one could explain how they'd able to breach back into our universe again)
