I just went to a comic book store today for the first time in over 10 years. I was pleasantly surprised to see they had comic book renditions of Steven King’s Dark Tower and Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. I have already read some of these books and I can’t wait to see the comic book version.
Does anyone know of other popular sci-fi or fantasy novels that have been converted to a comic book?

As far as DARK TOWER goes, the first series is the only real adaptation, telling Roland's story from WIZARD & GLASS. The rest of it fill in the blanks in Roland's youth from there until the battle of Jericho Hill.

Marvel recently did The Wizard of Oz.
And some other classics that may or may not count as fantasy, depending on how you define it.

I think everything Moorcock wrote has been adapted at least once.
"War of the Worlds"
"20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"
"the Time Machine"

Easy answer...there are a LOT!!

Saw a lovely adaption of '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea' with art by Gary Gianni recently. Very tasty.
Also, if you can get hold of Bill Sienkiewicz' adaption of 'Moby Dick', do so.

I came across a trade paperback version of The Picture of Dorian Gray last month. It was pretty good.
The big problem for the artist was portraying Dorian's charismatic beauty, which is absolutely central to the story; and this didn't work very well.

But maybe that's a matter of taste!

Was it the Ian Edgington one? Because I quite liked that...

A long time ago (like 18 years) there was a painted comic adaption of Interview With The Vampire.

Um... *doublechecks* ... Yes! (http://forbiddenplanet.co.uk/blog/2009/05/the-picture-of-dorian-gray/)
I don't mean to suggest that I disliked it, because I enjoyed it quite a lot. I just mean that the artist had a tremendous problem here, because Dorian's face is supposed to carry an almost-superhuman magnetism that enraptures everyone around him.
That's easy enough to write about in a novel; but putting it in a drawing is much harder.

He does seem cute, I guess!

my brother's book, the manga man, is being released as a graphic novel. i don't know how popular it is yet, but his older stuff seems to get around a lot.

Boom studios are soon to release a comic book adaptation of Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?" which, for those who may not know, is the book that the movie Blade Runner was based on. It's apparently going to consist of comic book art along with the full text of the novel. Here's a link (http://campaign-archive.com/?u=9d17c9217240226bbc79d6750&id=b56ced0cc2) to the first five pages.
There's also a thread about this series in the Independent Comics forum here...

Millennium Comics had a nice go with the Anne Rice adaptions. I liked the John Bolton covers.
