So the upcoming event is bound to be a huge financial success, and many newcomers might be interested, here are the book you should read to understand somewhat Blackest Night.
Green Lantern :
Rebirth
Sinestro Corps War Vol. 1 & 2
Tales Of The Sinestro Corps
Secret Origin
Rage Of The Red Lantern
Agent Orange
I skipped No Fear,Revenge Of The Green Lantern,Wanted Hal Jordan, because they are rather useless to understand the whole upcoming event.
Could someone post about Green Lantern Corps must read arc?
Thanks.

I'd read those 3 arcs above because (a) there's little stuff in there that helps (Black Hand is used for a bit after the first arc), though it's all recapped/expanded on afterwards (the BH stuff is recapped in #43) and (b) they're good.
As for GL Corps, I'd say Sinestro Corps War to the present. Everything before Sinestro Corps War is pointless for Blackest Night. I've been reading it since SCW and never had a reason to read any GLC before it. And since Tomasi took over, GLC has been tying in more and more into Johns' GL and the events of Blackest Night.

Definitely, for GLC, you only need Sinestro to current. The last two arcs are fantastic!

You should also add the latest GL arc Agent Orange.

You should read No Fear, Revenge of the GL, and Wanted: Hal Jordan simply because they're good.
Don't skip them because they aren't "required".
And they show the formation of the Sinestro Corps and the beginning of the War of Light, so if you're one of those nuts who only reads important books, there's that.

The reason I'm skipping those is because new readers might want to instead focus on the main event rather then "good" side stories that are completely irrelevant towards the main stuff.

You could so it's all irrelevent then.
This is Geoff john's run of Green Lantern.
Any fan will get a better and more pleasent reading experience if they read it all.
Johns knows fans are not lazy. Read it all and catch up and have fun with it.
Why skip the wanted arc or the revenge of the green lanterns arc?
So start at rebirth then read sinestro corps and then blackest night?
Eff that,. The build up is a huge part of the overall tapestry.

Lol, so you're telling me a new guy should buy all thing related just because it has a Green Lantern title on it? So perhaps the people also have to buy GLC first few trades?

Not blindly,no.
I am basically saying.
1) Get a loan of them off a friend.
2) Win them in a competition.
3) From the library.
4) Read them in the shop if you have to.
I am not encourage potential sales for the publisher. I am really encouraging a better reading experience for the reader. By whatever means possible.
Trust me. if any fanboy has loose cash for the blackest night, then they have loose cash for the back issues or TPBS.
Or wikipedia. But it;s not as fun,.

Not everyone has enough cash to buy all GL related stuff, so I'm helping them save cash by not buying books that aren't needed for the comprehension of the upcoming event.

Nothing is really needed then. save for the free comic book day issue.

Exactly.
Rebirth isn't needed, because it really just reintegrates Hal Jordan. Not necessary to understand Blackest Night. I don't think Sinestro Corps War would be either.
All you'd need to know could be found on Wiki and the Free Comic Book Day issue.

No. You will be fine.
But why not try out the sinestro corps war. It's fantastic comics.

I bet the only thing you'll "need" is the comic in question: Blackest Night # 1.
Sinestro Corps Special # 1 contained everything essential to understanding that story. BN # 1 will probably be the same. But if you HAVE read the prior books, it will enhance the experience.

Geoff Johns said it best on Newsarama (http://newsarama.com/comics/070903-Geoff-BN.html) last week, so I'll quote him:
I think Blackest Night, especially #1, is extremely accessible. But you know, it's as accessible as Return of the Jedi was. You can watch Return of the Jedi as its own film and get into it. And if you want to know more, you can go back and learn more.
Accessibility is a word that people throw around, and mostly it's from people who are well versed in this stuff. And they say, well, I liked it but I don't think it's very accessible. They judge a new comic reader wouldn't get it when they're not a new comic reader. And yet there are so many new comics readers that have come up to me and said they got on board with Sinestro Corps. Or who got on board with Rage of the Red Lanterns. Even Agent Orange. People aren't stupid. People will pick things up. Just like going into season 2 of a television show. I'm making a very big effort to make sure it's accessible and make sure the characters are introduced and the world is organic. I think I accomplished that in Sinestro Corps #1, and Blackest Night #1.
You pick up Blackest Night #1, all you need to know – and it's right in there – is that the Green Lantern Corps is an intergalactic police force. And these Earth men were chosen to be a part of it. From there, you’re off and running.
