View Full Version : Could Headsman be Gladiator's younger sibling?

i think you would all agree that there is no question more pertinent to the current political climate.
could the Headsman be the as-of-yet unmentioned younger brother of the Daredevil villain Gladiator?
Evidence:
. they both specialize in cutting off heads
. they're large framed white guys
. they both consistent lose to heroes wearing red
when i look at the guy i can just imagine him growing up in his older brother's shadow and always feeling as if he doesn't measure up/he isn't as loved by their parents. this would be doubly painful for Headsman because his brother has had several mental breakdowns. anyways, Headsman's clearly has an inferiority complex. his brother's role as enforcer for the NY mobs could have led Headsman to very reckless seek out a similar role (see: Untold Tales of Spider-man). Gladiator's baldness led to Headsman growing a lovely mane of hair (it's called 'The Stallion' look) and a beard to one-up his brother's 'stache; not to mention the shoulder shag. and because his brother took on the role of a gladiator, Headsman chose the equally retro role of executioner.
i think it'd be nice to know that Headsman actually sewed up that Green Goblin costume himself; learning to do this while trying to compete with his talented costume-designer brother.
i haven't even mentioned that it was Headsman who first showed concern for his possibly nutso teammate Ghost; bringing him food. could it be because he's used to being in the same household w/ someone battling mental illness?
now i just have to come up with a first name. Melvin Potter's younger brother....
'Marvin Potter'
'Milhouse Potter'
'Monty Potter'
'Martin Potter'
'Harry'

Yes, Lilly Potter. Can you think of a better reason to run around calling yourself something as lame as Headsman?

no. but he's kind of got that...look. it was either 'Headsman' or 'Lumberjack.'

I'd have gone with Lumberjack. Something about a big guy in a flannel shirt wielding an axe is really intimidating.

true true. i don't know why Headsman goes through such an effort to conceal his identity. he's the only one of them that wears a 2-way glass mirror mask. maybe he's a former child star or something. if he ever seeks redemption, i bet he'll go with the Lumberjack guise. he could have grenades filled with maple syrup as back up weaponry.

Maybe he's Gary Coleman on super steroids! Hrm, wait, he was floating in a tank at LL&L near Monty.

don't be ridiculous. Headsman is clearly not black. and there's only a slight possibility that "Headsman" is actually some kind of mecha being piloted by Gary Coleman.

Yeah, but these guys change their race all the time, look at Nick Fury, one minute he's white, the next he's black, some times it even changes in flash backs. I remember when the Fury LMD tricked Hulk into space he was black, but then later during World War Hulk they showed flash backs of it and he was white. Jeez, guy's supposed to be some big important leader of an organization meant to keep the world safe, or was until Stark took over, anyway I don't see how anyone can trust a guy in a position that important when he can't even decide what colour he is.

dude iced his own son. that's reason enough to distrust him; let alone the race-swapping. but back to the T-bolts, if any of them is going to change race all of a sudden, it will be Yelena. she'll go all Ultimate Wasp on a mission and come out of the dressing room asian. Headsman has stated that he doesn't enjoy Sunny-D. so i don't think he has any chance of passing as black.

he's a loose end. i don't like loose ends. but i do like to see characters fleshed out, especially ones who are in close proximity to Ant-Man. but wouldn't it be cool if he and Gladiator were brothers?

He certainly does seem to be just wallpaper right now. I would've much rather his spot be taken up by someone else. The team as it is are too "black ops" and dark by nature.
I think Gladiator should die, though. I always get him confused with the more prominent Shi'Ar guy.

that's just a buzzword. all it really means in a comic book world is that they aren't all over the tv set. if your immediate family was the Dark Avengers, the T-bolts would be the crazy freeloading cousins that everyone avoids. when i first saw the lineup, i hated Headsman and MIster X completely. but my views softened a bit after Headsman hammed it up while dressed as the Green Goblin. and the fact that Osborn may be intending for all of them to bite it makes me a bit more sympathetic. i too am hoping that things lighten up. but i think it has to get worse before it gets better. Ant-Man can't be as free w/ the jokes while Mister X is going through murder-withdrawal. since Diggle described Paladin as the Han Solo of the group i hope he, his Leia (Yelena), and Ant-Man make it out; whenever the killing starts. i guess Headsman would kind of fit the 'Chewbacca' role.

i don't know that he has to die. he retired a long time ago; just runs a costume shop. i think it's funny that a former villain has a costume/cos-play shop. it's so...nerdy.

lol Monty love the first post. Crazy connections could prove right!
Even if not related - the Headsman does seem to be "soft" in some areas - i mean much more soft than say Mister X or Nuke.
Just the worrying look on his face at times make it seem like he's got issues to deal with but I guess they all do.
If nothing else, Headsman is the next character that should be fleshed out a little more like you said so the reader can at least understand where's coming from and not just be another average brute.
Oh and I kind of like Marvin Potter. It sounds close to Melvin and he kinda looks liek a "Marv."

i'm fine with "Marvin." i can imagine him being sensitive about people using that name though. he probably has "Head Schmansky" on his driver's license. i definately hope they flesh him out soon because he has 'sacrificial lamb' written all over his man boobs. 10 internet bucks says that Ghost was lying to him about the rig tampering.
