View Full Version : Wasn't Doc Samson linked to Scorpion as a potential father?

I could have sworn I read this some where, but can't remember where, but I'm certain I read that Camilla Black, could have possibly been the daughter of Doc Samson, or that his genetics were incorporated into her. If I recall correctly there was basically a toss up between Hulk and Samson, my question is.. if it was then why go with the Hulk angle for anything other than more recognition? I mean, she really has no real attachments to Hulk, and isn't exactly trying to mimic him or get to know him/be with him, so why?
It would have been far better to have had this small minor character be a member of another medium to important Hulk myth related character be his daughter to add a little more substance to his history than another minor foot note in the Hulks.

I recall some speculation along those lines, but I don't know if any of it came from the actual comics. By her third appearance (PAD's brief 2005 Hulk run), they were already dropping pretty heavy hints that Banner was her father.

yeah, no kidding.
I just think that personally, the idea of Samson being her genetic donner would have fit better some how. It's not like being the daughter of Hulk is helping her much. Since you know, you only see Banner for all of what 2 or 3 panels in most comics nowdays? Seriously it's not called "Daughter of Banner" either.

To be fair, "Scorpion" didn't sell many either...

She's an intresting character... I always felt more of a link with Banner, but Samson... that would be even cooler. I'd like to see her around again one of these days... and hopefully there will be at least a Heroes for Hire mini in the next year or so.

If Scorpion and Skarr end up doing it, only to discover they're half-brother and sister, I quit comics.

Something's been bugging me for awhile about this: it's been established that if Banner is Carmilla's father, he helped conceive her before he was the Hulk. The gamma bomb blast changed Banner's DNA. So how can Carmilla prove he's her father with a DNA test? It wouldn't match anymore.

i don't have anything against the character but i think it was a mistake to name her 'Scorpion.' her only connection to scorpions is that she can "poison" people (her biohazard powers are strange). and it doesn't help that the name and her costume make me think of the Mortal Kombat videogame. there's something cheesy about it. but i hope she finds her place in the Marvel Universe.

Yeah, the visual killed it for me at the starting gate.. thought she was 'Jade'. Admittedly,"the lethal warrior sprung from the loins of the psychotherapist to the world's greatest heroes and villains" doesn't fill one with awe. But who cares about that, really? How much of a role (currently) do Peter Parker's or Ben Grimm's parents play in how well they're received?

to be fair, neither of their parents were famous. but they are currently trying to milk the famous parents angle with the Secret Warriors (i don't think it's working for them). at this point, they might as well try to connect Carmilla with the Caterpillar File. that way it wouldn't matter how high profile her parents are. she'd only be competing with the 'great great grandson' of some guy who was kind of like Ghost Rider if you squint, so that's why we gave him a fiery chain as a weapon and Doctor Druid's kid.
P.S. i do think it was good to have her infiltrate Hydra. her look allows her to fit in, even though she has absolutely nothing to do w/ the organization. makes me wonder why they didn't try to make her a test tube grown clone of Viper (w/ a bunch of other successful Hydra agents dna mixed in a la Serpentor) or something like that.

my understand is that the part of him that is alien (i forget the name of his mothers race) allows him to mature rapidly, that is they reach a certain level of maturity within a few hours.

so he's basically Dakota Fanning. it's still kind of creepy.

Hulk has too many baby mommas. We know he definitely has two (Skaar and Lyra) and it hasn't been confirmed, but we're almost positive Scorpion unless the editors change their minds
Also from what I can tell from the last Cup o Joe and the retitling of the series, Skaar might have a twin.
Over the course if 4 years Banner went from no kids to (supposedly) a teenage daughter, an adult daughter as well as two preteen twins... He''s been busy.

Fred Van Lente did say originally, his intentions were for Thanasee Rappaccini aka Carmilla Black aka Scorpion was intended to be the daughter of Silver Samurai and Viper.
I like that combo better than even Hulk as a dad. Only problem is they'd have to give Samurai a huge push into the spotlight which I doubt will happen and sweep the fact that Monica Rappaccini has been established as her mother. Which would take a retcon.
For me, Samurai is cool and Viper is always FUN. Hulk as dad is kind of...ehhh. She's deeply attached to the character I know so I can see it happening and it probably will. But I just think about all the fun there could be with Viper and Samurai running around the pages of Avenger's or Hulk books trying to get their daughter back or something like that.

i would prefer that to what we got quite a bit.

i wouldn't say that. i'd say that Samurai has been treated quite well for such a background character. consider that he made it into that Capcom video game, was made the leader of Big Hero 6, and is still appearing semi-regularly in the Secret Warriors series. i'd say that he's high profile enough to be the dad. it's not like people don't know who Viper is. she's Wolverine's ex-wife. by trying to make Thanasee the Hulk's kid they kind of hurt her popularity by making it seem like she's being forced on the readership. plus she has a lot to live up to, being the child of the Hulk (especially w/o super strength).
