I believe it was JLA Classified #1-4, in which the bad guys of the Seven Soldiers series first appeared. I've never read it, and didn't need it in order to follow Seven Soldiers.

No, it's just #1-3. #4 starts the "I Can't Believe It's Not Justice League" arc.

It probably wasn't collected because it's only three issues. But they could have squeezed it into the SS trades if they really wanted to.

I have a feeling Seven Soldiers will eventually get a better TP treatment (maybe even an Absolute edition) with more "behind the scenes" content. When this happens, maybe they'll include the JLA Classified issues. Seven Soldiers is too well-respected to remain in the current dodgy four TP set.

... but it's not available in a collection? - rats.
can't believe I never noticed this before, since it's been one of my favourite albums for years, but while listening to Eno's Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy the last few days these few lines in Mother Whale Eyeless jumped out at me:
Back on the trail,
The seven soldiers read the papers and mail
But the news, it doesn't change.
Swinging about through creepers,
Parachutes caught on steeples
Heroes are born, but heroes die.
Just a few days, a little practice and some holiday pay,
We're all sure you'll make the grade.
Mother of God, if you care,
We're on a train to nowhere
Please put a cross upon our eyes.
Take me - I'm nearly ready, you can take me

What's dodgy about it? (Other than the lack of the JLU arc)

It's bare-boned. Other than some early character sketches and a small amount of content regarding the planning of Seven Soldiers #1, it has no additional content. These TPs were produced quickly. If you look in the synopses at the beginning of each TP, there are tons of minor errors that prove this. There's nothing wrong with them beyond that. They're just entirely lackluster. A story like SS deserves a single hardcover volume and, with a story as complex and full of meaning as it has, there should be a LOT of supplemental info either by Morrison or by someone else discussing Morrison and what he was going for.

Or maybe a printing of the full original script to Seven Soldiers #1? The one that was supposed to be 100 pages long?

Meh - I tend to not read that stuff anyway.
And I didn't know there were any errors in the synopses. I relied on those to have any clue what was going on in some of the minis

Most of it was spelling, and a few names were messed up too. I don't recall any major plot points getting screwed up.

not sure how involved morrison is with the 52 -ww3 thing , but Bulleteer , Manhattan Guardian and Shining Knight are on the cover. background space fillers or cannon foder....

Morrison is one of the lead writers of 52. So those characters should be safe.
And I love seeing them included in it.

... so why not let the soldiers teamup? just need Zantana , Frankenstein , I, Spyder and Klarion the Witch-Boy

Because at the end of 7 Soldiers, none of them even knew they had been involved in a team-up (except Mr. Miracle and I suppose I, Spyder). The 7 Soldiers is a team that does not actually exist.

...... so if they all showed up in the same place to do the " save the world thing " it would'nt be a team up ?

I suppose it would. On the other hand, if Bulleteer and The Guardian shared a single panel, after Gloriana was already dead, it would'nt be a team up.
Of the lot of them, only Zatanna was aware that there is such a thing as 7 Soldiers of victory. Most of them didn't even know the others existed.

And that's what made the book. All seven of them saved the world from various threats at once and pretty much nobody noticed. Hell, in the grand scheme of things, the invasion didn't even register as a blip, and nobody but Shilo knows that Darkseid solved the Anti-Life Equation. For everybody but seven people and a city that sees strange crap all the time, it was just another day.

Then you'd be wrong.
They're not the Super Friends until they teach you a valuable lesson. Preferably involving downed power lines or whether or not to talk to strangers or the downside of dressing up as an Eskimo and declaring yourself a supervillain.
...or the downside of dressing up as an Eskimo and declaring yourself a supervillain.
Unfortunately I never heard that lesson as a kid. I wasted too much of my life persuing the Eskimo supervillain career path. My family told me to go into dentistry, but alas, I wanted to be an Eskimo supervillain.
