He's always seemed more interested in finding out about the human/mutant side of his family. Maybe, he doesn't care much for his aunts and their people. Unless he's not really as old as he looks, how did D'Ken get a human female pregnant that long ago without it being Ma Summers?

Also, I always find it weird when writers choose to make fun of a character instead of making them better. If Adam X didn't have on his backwards baseball cap and didn't curse like a meathead from '94, he would've come off as a decent character in this reappearence.

Not that I disagree with you, but is there any reason not to write a character like a meathead if they ARE a meathead. I haven't read enough stories with Adam X to know if this applies to him or not.

The question is moot. Althugh he looked even more like a guy who would say this kind of stuff, I don't recall him talking or acting like this in the early '90s.

I'm not upset by this though. I was just making a comment. I think writers would be better off tweaking characters so that they could be taken seriously by readers and future writers.

So... he would've come off as a decent character if he sat there and said nothing?

Yes, he would've just come off like a young half-human/half Shi'Ar mutant. There's nothing inherently silly about that idea. If you add that he's stuck in the early '90s, he becomes nothing more than a joke...a joke who's not even considered for a throwaway murder scene so that D'Ken's long lost heir doesn't interfere with the plans of whoever is running the Shi'Ar Empire.

Clearly he is a pimp that works at night and he feels his pimp game is tight. What's to wonder?

Adam X came to Earth because he is half Shiar/Half Human and wanted to find out his human heritage. I'm assuming his search has continued however after the mutants all went to San Fran, he decided to follow the crowd since there is safety in numbers. Also there is the fact Scott's grandpa helped him out in the past so he figured Scott would be equally helpful.

Yes, he would've just come off like a young half-human/half Shi'Ar mutant.
He may be half-Shi'ar, but the only real indication of that is his name. There's nothing physical to make a new reader think that.

Certainly, the dialogue didn't give any other clues in that regard, but it did provide some personality beyond "brooding guy drinking with some other brooding guys".

I guess the name was enough for me. Others may not be as familiar with it, but if they don't recognize the name, why would they recognize Shi'Ar features?

The dialogue still took him from just being there to a joke. Granted, he's been a joke for a while, but again, why not revamp him instead?

Because writers are lazy. They'd rather exploit the popularity of existing characters or creating their own pet characters than putting effort into existing characters.

I mean hell, anyone who thinks that Daken is cool while X-Treme is a loser needs their head examined. At least X-Treme's had some work done on him by Fabian N, whereas Daken's supposed to be interesting because of who his dad is.

He hasn't. Before he was simply a wandering, determined soul looking for clues and answers to his past and for a place to belong, tired of being used.

As much as people wanna bash him for being a 90s character, he was handled pretty well. Fabian N clearly had an origin in mind for him and kept his characterization fairly consistant.

Well, when he was introduced, he had the little Shi'ar eye tattoos that we see so often on folks like Lilandra (RIP) and D'Ken and definately had kinda-alienish blue eyes as well as pointed ears that defined him as "other" and made him look kinda like a snowboarding, blonde counterpart to everyone's favorite brunette skiing champ Northstar.

The Cameron Twins ! Lifeguard and Slipstream . Except that their shi'ar parent is their mother , and Adam's shi'ar parent is his father . Like Deadpool, Cable, Domino and Shatterstar?

Under Fabian N, X-Force bucked the trends of the 90s. The characters got characterization, had core concepts and nuance. Yes, they looked goofy now, but at the time they were modern and well developed. To judge solely by appearance is lamer than any 90s character.

Eh... X-Force didn't really develop interestingly until JFM took over imo. Fabe's stuff was okay, definitely better than his X-Men run, but not exactly what I'd call "well developed". But I did really like the X-Cutioner's Song stuff.

How's that any worse than Shatterstar, Cable, Warpath, Meltdown, etc? To say nothing of Superman, Green Lantern and others. Good characters, and writers, can make you take their name seriously, no matter what it is.

All that's needed is effort, something Franction is rarely capable of.

He's never been a joke up until now. He's had consistant characterization with a clear subplot in mind. If you're so shallow to judge by name, I'm surprised you're even bothering with a niche like comic books.

Again, it's amazing that this characterization sticks after two panels when before he's never even seemed like he would act like this drunk or not.

So if a writer decided to try Adam could be as interesting as those characters instead of a joke.

I agree if a writer would take a chance on adam he could be a really great character. I think he has an awesome mutant power.

Just about any character can be made interesting in the right hands; although there are a few that may have been ruined beyond redemption.

Well, when he was introduced, he had the little Shi'ar eye tattoos...See, now that would've helped.

Adam X should join X-Force, visually redesigned and with a non-retarded codename. Say what you want about his character, his powers are pretty damn cool.

See I like his eyes colored like that. Blue, with a lighter blue sclera. It looks cool.
