So what if he has furry fans? It doesn't mean you are one if you enjoy the character. There's no reason why he shouldn't be paired up with any of the others, he's still a mutant and a man.

Without his more animalistic attributes the essense of his character is lost. The contrast between his true inner self and the outside - you know, never judge a book by it's cover? I think reverting him to human form would be one of the worst things that could happen to him.

Mike Carey Well, you know, ugly is relative. Maybe he's attractive to other people whose heads are on fire.

Mike Carey Wow. The firebending stuff is a whole mythology, isn't it? I wouldn't want to give Match the whole range of those powers, even if Nick would let me - but it's a great template for taking elemental powers off in new directions.

Thinking of Match's ethnicity reminded me of the great line from a Karl Kesel FF story - "You don't look Jewish" - spoken... Read more to the Thing by a generic bad guy (the Powderkeg) on Yancy Street. But it's a fair point: if I do spotlight Match, I'll try to give him a background and a convincing identity.

Re: firebending. Yeah I also think giving him all the firebending powers would make him to super powered also. But I think giving him make 1-3 of the powers would really help distance Match from being similar to Johnny Storm & the soon to return Torch.

In Uncanny X-Men/Dark Avengers : Utopia, he was show having the power/ability to absorb/drain fire/flame/heat. So that also help set him apart.... Read more

I think if his flame was able to change colors could/would help him out also because there so many red/orange Flame characters in marvel. Maybe depending on his mood or something like when he angered/intense state it turns blue or yellow when he clam/weaken/of need of rest.

Also firebreathing sound like a really cool power to me & I don't believe any other current marvel Fire/Flame base charterers can do so. Maybe he could be in a fight or something & has used all the power he believe himself to have, then he starts to dig deep & out shoots the fire from his mouth.

Mike Carey I like it in theory. I think it would be harder to establish this far down the line. It would have been great to show him occasionally flaming in different colours earlier on, without any explanation, and then give the pay-off later...

I'm surprised by how much I liked this issue. Matt Fraction seems to be getting better since 512. Really liked Mystique's appearance and the introductio of the Dark X-men (hope they stick around after the crossover). One thing I didn't like about the issue was Hellion trying to act like Kid Omega (who was a far better character) and also Berto being on Hellio'n "team" seemed a bit ou of character.

This issue made me think it would have been better were Pixie originally replaced by Hellion in this team, the whole neo-Quentin character arc would've been more interesting then.

I didn't really mind this issue, Dodson's art didn't fit and apart from Hellion no one really got any decent moments but it's a crossover and it's better than the Sisterhood arc. It also doesn't have Land.

The Beast segments were shit, from both versions of the character.

I like the Dark X-men concept. I think it's shit symbolism for Emma to use a black uniform, the Dark adjective doesn't exist for the general public so there's no reason to go all Wednesday Adams. It's just hitting us over the head with how. dark. it. is. !.

Trask's story is complicated if you're not into or planning to get into the X-men. He's the guy whose family was behind the Sentinel program, died sometime ago but was revived as one of the Technarchy in X-Force. Now he's leading an anti-mutant movement in San Fransisco under orders of Bastion and spear heading Proposition X, I believe.

Just read the issue ... and I have to ask, why does Fraction have to point out the Canadians? All of Northstars Fraptions have been "Northstar. Something. Canadian," and now the same thing's happening to Mimic ... random, but yeah ... since when does Match have "anger issues"? And if Sunspot knows better than to be at the bar ... why's he there? And WHY do Cloak and Dagger have a disgustingly minimal role? Well, to be fair, most of the Dark X-Men have a minor role ... but Cloak and Dagger! Overall writing wasn't bad - just meh. I was kinda hoping for more, hey ...

Art was kind of creepy ... worst shots (in my opinion).

Just read the issue ... and I have to ask, why does Fraction have to point out the Canadians? All of Northstars Fraptions have been "Northstar. Something. Canadian," and now the same thing's happening to Mimic ... random, but yeah ... since when does Match have "anger issues"? And if Sunspot knows better than to be at the bar ... why's he there? And WHY do Cloak and Dagger have a disgustingly minimal role? Well, to be fair, most of the Dark X-Men have a minor role ... but Cloak and Dagger! Overall writing wasn't bad - just meh. I was kinda hoping for more, hey ...
He got them in his 100 issue solo.

The Fraptions are stupid though.

Trask's story is complicated if you're not into or planning to get into the X-men. He's the guy whose family was behind the Sentinel program, died sometime ago but was revived as one of the Technarchy in X-Force. Now he's leading an anti-mutant movement in San Fransisco under orders of Bastion and spear heading Proposition X, I believe.

When I heard Emma punched Hellion, I couldn't wait to get to the final page and see this for myself.

Fraction's dialogue here is pretty great (actually has me anticipating Cyclops' meeting with Osborn) but I had to say I was kind of let down. The fact Emma punched Hellion with a diamond fist should have been something epic ... but it just seems really bland.

Not everyone can be VILLAINOUS VILLAIN. Some need to be there as it is the right thing to do. If somebody was trying to take away my rights, because of their own prejudice, I would protest. I wold attack. However, I am mist-ah pacifist-ah. He was more logical there than everyone apart from Hellion.

All the complaints about "so and so should have siad more" I mean. . .Really? Should they? That was a lot of characters to fit into one issue, and we know the characters will garner future spotlight., so it is not as if Weapon O will only talk about the machine, or Dagger will only talk about cameras.

I despised the last issue, but I enjoyed this one.

I really enjoyed last issue and all of the Science Team content -- otherwise this is leaving me cold. I love Fraction on Invincible, was blown away by him on Iron Fist, but don't get his X-Men at all... It's like the Milligan run -- both are some of the top comics talents of their time (in my opinion), but either due to editorial fiat or poor fit, they're just don't work with the flagship X-title.

Somewhat Off-topic: When did the X-forum turn into an angry troll fest? It seems to have gone seriously downhill in the last few months. Everyone's shouting about banning and whose opinions are valid and appropriate... chill out guys, it's just comic books, not health care reform!

I finally got my hands on a copy and I really am surprised at how peaceful protest suddenly transforms into 'lighting things up.' I actually think Julian had a sound plan but he was on a team with mutants even more uppity than he, so perhaps it isn't surprising that things plunged into chaos, but I can't help but think it's awfully convenient that they would turn into rabblerousers since Emma could use someone as a scapegoat to show her team is working for the 'greater good.' I'm looking forward to what happens between Emma and her favorite student, though.

When I heard Emma punched Hellion, I couldn't wait to get to the final page and see this for myself. Fraction's dialogue here is pretty great (actually has me anticipating Cyclops' meeting with Osborn) but I had to say I was kind of let down. The fact Emma punched Hellion with a diamond fist should have been something epic ... but it just seems really bland. Doesn't it?

At least that would have better suited her character. Or at least her old character. God knows what Fraction wants to do with her now. She's fresh off of hammering Lady Mastermind with her fists of fury.

People said Mystique is laughing and happy about having a bomb in her head, but I didn't read it that way. I just read those scenes as if she has a "been-there-done that" kind of attitude towards the whole thing, knows she'll get out of this situation eventually, and is just going to enjoy being bad in the meantime.

Also, is it possible that some members of the "Omega Gang" who seemed misplaced or who turned the protest into a riot were previously captured by Osborn and had Weapon Omega use Professor X's powers stolen from the Omega Machine to cause their actions? At the end of the one-shot, Xavier did say there were others there in the prison.

Yeah, it doesn't quite feel like a cross over since the Dark Avengers are basically the badguys. It's X-Men fighting badguys, like they do in pretty much every other comic. It's the weird nature of the Dark Avengers.

I was thinking more about the Cabal being the driving force in this issue with Norman, Emma, and Namor. And I was very interested in the interactions of Emma and Scott to come up, just as I'm interested in Scott and Normans. All of a sudden because of a riot Osborn has a totally random team going, more random mutant kids join up to riot some more.... because that's going to help? Mystique is now trapped with a bomb on, Prof X captured, this and that,etc, etc, etc.

Instead of this rush of stuff the UXM book should spent the last waste of an arc into slowly building this up.

I feel really odd but...I actually liked this issue--the only one since Fraction came aboard.

I think it all went together rather nicely and other characters were doing things, which was surprising.

I am really happy with the use of Hellion. He's a stupid, impulsive, self-righteous jerk and his taking charge, not in the corner, weeping into Tag's used boxers.

The Dark X-Men, as brief as their speaking time was, got a pretty good introduction. I liked Anole and Surge speaking up, even though Surge sounded like, um, one of my, like, posts.

The only thing I had a gripe with was Dodson's art, which did nothing for me. But I admired the glossy, glossy colors.

That doesn't make sense. Doesn't Emma know Xavier and Hank are being depowered? If so, what purpose would it serve to go along with Osborn while her people are suffering? Most of my opinions on this issue have already been said by other people, but here's something I was wondering: Bolivar Trask, inventor if the Sentinels, was resurrected by Bastion in X-Force. Then in Uncanny, Simon Trask, Bolivar's dead brother, is seen running around with T-O powers. Did I miss something or is this another case of Fraction not doing his homework?

I don't know if I actually liked the issue or if it was just expectation, but it read well enough.

All illogical situations and mischaracterizations were perfectly in-character considering the writer. It's good to see Fraction doing something consistent in Uncanny.

I can't see her backstabbing Norman until the time he looses power. Emma was supposed to be Magneto originally, so Marvel has had to squeeze her into the role. Don't you buy, at all, that Emma would cooperate with the Cabal? I'm convinced she's an equal partner in their dealings, after all she was a member of the Hellfire Club.

There will definitely be an explanation for why the renegades ran in the middle of the park and immediately started rioting when they specifically concluded at the bar as a team that going in like goons and *#+*#*# *1!# up(by Adam-X's words no less) would be a bad idea. I was under the impression they'd go in the park and do a peaceful rally which would bait Osborn into arresting them and thus looking like a bad guy, rather than terrorizing SF and making the dark X-men be the heroes. I have faith that fraction will clear this up next issue.

Why wasn't 'Phytey in New Avalon??? I wish he would've been a part of that Xavier smack down action. Its strange how the rest were just there for that one issue and then kinda went back into obscurity.
